I have found that there is no replacement for singing technique. A little practice to strengthen your vocal cords and proper singing technique can do more than all the effects in the world. "working the mic" is essential too. Close to the mic for a detailed and more intimate sound, further from the mic allows you to belt it out more.

That being said, I find the best way to go is to:

1) EQ the vocals. I find that I need to take a lot of low frequency out of my voice to get it sounding clear. I bought ChannelStrip and it works great for this.

2) Compression. This really helps to smooth out the sound of the vocals.

3) Reverb. A plate reverb is generally best for most vocals. Use it sparingly, you will want to use too much so use less than you think it needs.

Is there a stomp box to plug your mic into right into
the pa ?

is it worth it ?

I guess the pa has reverb and EQ ...I wonder
what setting wont let your voice sounds like a robot ?
