can you actually change the sounds or is it presets only (I know it's all samples). the one thing I hate about sampletank (besides the GUI) is the fact that you can't do much with the sounds. thanks for pointing this out.

Hey Michael,

In fact you can edit and manipulate the sounds very much so and save them as your own presets. With the three synth edit functions and loads of effects I would venture you could be making custom sounds from now until the year 3000. (IMO) Look - this isn't by far the best soft synth out there however I own this and for $30 what the heck - even if you couldn't edit any sounds just the library of sounds that's packed in this would make it a steal.

Yes, I've just bought and downloaded everything. A very good deal, it seemed. Except I can't get it working in Logic 9. Tried changing to 32 bit, but still no joy. The AU is where it's supposed to be, but the synth simply won't show up. Also, in stand alone mode, it's telling me that the sample files can't be found, but they are there, have been installed. Any ideas?

you can buy this at esoundz.com for the same price and they will also give you 2 additional sampletank sets for free (I recommend the mellotron for sure).

davajonah: are you trying to use the Sonik Synth player or Sampletank? You can download the free sampletank player and I imagine that it will work easier. sampletank plays really well with Logic.

mvh9591: your right, $30 is nothing for more synth stuff. I don't really have the room on my computer right now, but will maybe buy it and an external HD. it's something like 8 gigs right?

I don't have Sampletank installed - this is a brand new machine I'm on, running the latest version of Lion and I have the latest version of Logic 9 too. I bought the discounted Sonik Synth package, installed it, ran the authorisation stuff as per the online instructions, downloaded all the sound sets and installed then using the installers provided.

The AU has been placed in HD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components - where it should be, and the sound sets are in a folder called "IK Multimedia" within the Application Support folder.

I've just run the Logic validator again, Sonik Synth passed and now Logic will load the synth, but I can still get no sound out of it. I get a little message box popping up telling me the instrument can't be found, which suggests that they have not been installed in the correct place, or that I have to "load" them in some way. I've tried every way I can see, with no luck. Help anyone? Anybody using it? Really appreciate a bit of help with this. I'm stuck, so it's off to the internet to try to find some answers. :-(

OK I think I've cracked it, just in case anyone is going to buy this and has similar problems. When you run the instrument installers, they DO NOT create a folder they are supposed to in the Sonik Synth 2 bit of the IK Multimedia folder. The instruments are not being installed, just the presets.

So what you have to do is first create a folder called "SS2Instruments" here:

HD/Library/Application Support/IK Multimedia/Sonic Synth 2.

Then, when you run the installer for the instruments, when you are prompted to "change location" navigate to this folder and press install. The instruments will be placed there. When you open Sonik Synth in Logic, click on "prefs" within the synth window and then select the path to this folder. The sounds will be there and you can load them up.

What a nightmare. IK Multimedia ought to sort this one out.

Well an hour later and a little play around. It all seems to be working now, though God only knows what has been installed and where! I've installed twice now - first one placed all the presets where they should be and the second one [see above] placed the instruments and presumably samples. Not so easy and IK M should sort this one out.

Was it worth it? Well, for £24, maybe, as long as it doesn't crash anything. If it starts playing up, I shall just delete everything IK Multimedia and complain bitterly.

haha. what a journey huh? I am downloading it now actually, but I'm going to skip the drama and just use sampletank to play it. the free sampletank is actually a pretty nice tool/rompler. huuuge download. 8.5 gigs, 10 separate downloads. have to go get a new external drive.
