echo chamber
Sunday, June 17 2012 @ 10:13 PM CDT

I was asked to go down and take a look at this old building in phoenix called the icehouse yesterday…it literally used to be an icehouse…some kind of refrigerated storage facility

There are multiple rooms that have these big meat locker doors which have been taken over by various arty folks from downtown

A friend of mine cryptically suggested ‘I have found an echo chamber’ for you to play with and invited me over

So, basically there are multiple rooms with different and magnificent reverb qualities…its like going into each different room is a different patch on a reverb unit

So we started making noises in there and discovered that the sound travels thru the whole building…

The recording I made here clipped and doesn’t really convey the massiveness of the sound (and my atempts at vocalizing are really crap)…but you might get the idea if you listen to a bit of it

I know david byrne has already 'played the building'...but it is so tempting to try and get this place to be a voal resonator for a one off special performance..

Gee, that sounds as though it would be a lot of fun for an a capella group or percussionists. Thanks, Bryn.

that is actually awesome. I play in the company seatrains -- acoustic guitar and my warbling voice. one of my coworkers said it sounds like I'm playing and singing in a tunnel so I dubbed it tunnel audio (like tunnel vision :-)

I fully support your endeavor to make this a happening and yes I loved the playing the building deal :-)
