getting ready to fly
Monday, June 18 2012 @ 01:56 AM CDT

over the last 2 weeks or so, i have been watching an amazing thing in my back yard

it started with a hummingbird building a nest, then laying eggs, then the eggs hatching and watching the baby bird grow

today it looked like it was getting ready to fly....

tomorrow i think the nest will be empty

This has been an amazing series Bryn. Incredible that they trust you so much to let you get as close as you do.

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done.

Wow! Thanks, Bryn.

Foolishly, I've just looked for the "like" button. Too much time on Farcebook... Yes, I've been following these posts with interest. Very nice. This photograph really does put things into perspective; how tiny they are indeed! Your slo-mo video is excellent btw.

It's about time I changed this...

BTW... Cool stop motion-like effect on the video. I was wondering what the frame shot timing is...

thanks for fixing that link harold
what i did re the video...shot a 60 frames per second on a canon t3i
dropped that footage into final cut pro and slowed it down to 1% of its original speed using the optical flow algorithm
in hindsight, i think i had a relatively slow shutter speed set on the camera, maybe something like 1/60 or 1/125...for this ultra slo mo stuff a much faster shutter speed would probably have been better (1/1000 or higher)...if the birds are still around later this afternoon i will try one more time, but i have a strong feeling they will be gone today
