I have a first gen H4. Love it. While I don't have any experience with the newer units I would think the choice might come down to the following.

If you don't need a field recorder capable of functioning as a 4 track or an audio interface the H2 may be a better bargain. I also believe the H2 can record 360 degrees making it better for capturing live performances and rehearsals.

Either way you can't go wrong.

Peace be with my friend Jerry!

i have got great recordings from mine, but sometimes i have trouble setting the levels...i thought it might be a bit easier on a newer one?

I've had the H2 for about 3 years, maybe four. No complaints. I love this little device. I often find the quality of recording with its condenser mics exceeds my more expensive mics. Only minor complaint is the small display window. Though, once you make your settings, that really isn't an issue.

I've been happy with the H2 for years. Lost one at a studio one night two years back and ordered a new one that night from Sweetwater. The H2n looks sexier. The specs look the same.

It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done.

My band has the latest H4 with two stereo Mic
it rocks ...all our recordings helped the band
to balance the live levels on our actual instruments
and playings .

i ended up getting the H2N, mainly because i have already got a 1st gen H4

i will try a couple of direct comparisons between both units in the near future to see if there are any notable differences

in the meantime, i made a VERY effective windshield for the mics on these devices today H2N with a bit of foam (thank you Kara Roschi), some cross stitching plastic mesh and a feather boa (from Joann's)
