Yes.
It's better to regret something you have done, than something you haven't done. |

assault weapons....not so much....there is no reason for them, unless you are in a war.
i have never even held a real gun. the day the government tells me i can't have one, i will get one.... but as it is ... it needs some control. why do we need guns on the market that can be so deadly to so many so quickly? |

quote from a young man on facebook (who I tend to agree with):
"Let me be clear, and not equivocate. Yes, I want your guns destroyed. No, I don't trust you to have them, no I don't think you should "protect your family" with them, and I'm sick of pussyfooting around some compromise. Take your mis-reading of the second amendment and go fuck yourself." |

Well this is interesting - I went from england (where you can just about get a shotgun if you're a farmer with no criminal records, and a handgun [unless you're some kind of VIP with a damn good reason] is out of the question), to the UAE where you can hop down to your local range and watch a few local 12 year olds running around with AK47s, and the RPG range just across the road. (I think they have in the last few months passed a law that makes it illegal to own/shoot a firearm that is .45 or above if you're under 16).
As much as I'd like to have a handgun when I get back, it's more from my teenage perspective of "oh wouldn't it be cool to have a gun". I know the chances of ever having to use it are slim, and it would more likely be stolen and get into the hands of some chav who'll go off, get drunk and kill someone with it. So gun control? I think the UK has a pretty nice way of going about it. Do you have any reason to have a gun? If so, do you really need one? Or can you make do with a high-powered air rifle? Good way of doing it IMO. As for catching those without licenses, well, I guess there's only so much one can do. The police don't have XRay vision..... otherwise it'd be a scandal! yes, i've shot a gun a couple of times. a 22 pistol and a shotgun. there's respectable power in those things.
should there be gun control in the US? sure. some guns are WAY over the top on what you might need for protection or hunting. but i feel we should all have the right to responsibly own a gun. ignore Hollywood's vision of guns 100% scenarios: defending one's home during a time of stress shooting animals for food during extreme times of stress target shooting - to be aware of how to safely use and maintain your weapon EDIT: forgot to say, we should have the right to accumulate a large amount of ammunition. this is to cover the worst case scenario of societal collapse - or foreign invasion. |

not so sure about that logic. homicide rates per capita: USA: 4.8 Canada: 1.62 England: 1.23 Japan: 0.36 obviously limited access to weapons has some affect. |

Guns don't kill people... People Kill People.
The statistical fact that about 70% of those people are holding guns at that moment only tends to muddy the water.
