I'm sure there are those who do know, but they're not talking. I keep up on the rumors, and there's been nothing on this that I've seen. Hoping to use it like you would a dedicated pocket flash recorder? There are mics you can purchase to add to your iPhone:

Thanks, KF. I do know about those mics that you can plug into the iPhone. I just want it to be simpler. I am hoping for stereo mics on the next iPhone. That would be just terrific.
