Best and worst, or at least some real negative undercurrents (think Altamont). But it was a time of hopeful expectations for love of one's fellow man and a better world. As John said, "All you need is love."
I came to San Francisco in 1971 with visions of sixties' flower-children. Visited Haight-Asbury, a friend lived there. Scott's song was a draw for my future wife to come to CA. Amazing how history unfolds... Remember to wear flowers in your hair. |

The song was actually written by John Phillips of The Mama's and Papas. Now there was a tragic waste of talent that got flushed down the drain by hard drugs. Great songwriter, vocalist, and arranger. Scott Mackenzie was a friend of his from the early 60's folk days and John generously wrote the song for him to record.
