new music
Saturday, September 22 2012 @ 12:37 PM CDT

anybody listen to new music around here (other than the music found on this great site)? i'd say my favorite group over the past couple of years is Grizzly Bear. just a couple of days ago they released a new album called Shields which i think is excellent... well, i recommend it anyway.

what new(er) bands are you listening to?

cheers,

steve

Saga's 2012 release. Love it. Mark Knopfler also released one in the last week. Another great listen. I usually am so involved in collabs I usually only listen to those. You just happened to ask at a time when I have gone and gotten commercial releases from some I like. If you had asked me this a couple weeks ago it would have been all indie online stuff. Every once in awhile I go grab some that are on sale. Wife just purchased a couple country cds at Best Buy. I am not even sure who they are. Liked some I heard. Somebody named Something Church. I will have to go and look and see what she is listening to. Sometimes I am listening to it right with her. A lot of this I would call rock crossover. Good stuff (some of it). Every once in awhile I hear something I wonder why they made it, but usually good sounds. I saw that Glass Tiger has a new release. Might just go see what that's about. Radio almost never gets played anymore. Not that there is bad stuff on the radio. Just been there and done that and there is so much waiting for us to hear. So that's two for sure I've been listening to. progressive Rock (SAGA) and acoustic rock/pop/blues (Mark Knopfler). Mark i am always a fan of. SAGA I was just curious and was not disappointed.

Need drums? Look me up...

Stevo,

Fresh, shiny and new and from just down the road. Though they remind me of Porcupine Tree. Les might like these guys?

Btw, thanks for the heads up, though I am still trying to get my head around GB, will let you know!

Stepher,

well i certainly dig the hell out of porcupine tree, so this is very promising. thanks for your suggestion!

grizzly bear's music isn't so much about immediate gratification. give it some time, my man.

peace,

steve

This band is about as different as can be. A mix of showtune, medieval music, and hard rock. Not for everyone but I find them very interesting. They are called Ayreon.

I stumbled on this band's live performance on the Live Music Archive a year or so ago and enjoyed them - Ladyhawk. Modern Rock with elements of Pop and Blues. You can find their studio albums on iTunes/wherever or YouTube.

Hi Freddy. Read your comment and went out and bought the Mark Knopfler 2 CD Privateering. He's in good form!
