I know who I am and you know who you are, but who and the hell do they think they are? |

ROFL, nice one Simon, I didnt catch that you moved this from a song comment to a forum post. That is great. In the process you made an epic forum post that will most likely outlive us all in popularity! |

I forgot about the "loops vs. creativity" thread. Another classic!
To think, the 14 yr old boy who started this thread is now 20. Wonder if he's matured any? He might still know more than any other human or he could've been dosed with a little reality in his journey so far. Sept. of 2004 -- yeah, Macjams will never make it because of all the loopers. Bwa ha ha ha! -- Joanna |

I get a kick out of people who want to set up a pecking order of musical talent. Ooops yours used more loops than the other guy so you get moved down the pecking order..... Not a real musician.... phhhhhhhh
Music is an art, not a competition. Arrangement is part of it. Who the hell cares HOW it was created? This sort of scrutiny injects way too much personal politics into listening. If people want to compete let 'em join a football team. If the only reason a person wants to be on top is so they can look down on the little people, then I guess i just assume stay down here with real people. I've played an acoustic kit for over 35 years, and I still like to put loops in my projects. I have tons of stage experience and I still like using the studio tricks and tools in my tracks. It's absurd to not use it just because it might be looked down on by idiots who insist that musical ability be put in a pecking order. Nobody is forcing anyone to listen. I am an old hand and quite often I can't tell if someone programed parts or played them. I don't really care how they did it, cuz I am not comparing it to something else in order to tell where in the pecking order it belongs. This is an extremely narrow minded way of listening to music. Can't decide wether you like it or not until you know HOW it was made? It's a pretty strange way of looking at things. Wether they can play the instruments or not, they are probably getting better at song arrangement. Something they couldn't have worked on nearly as much if they waited until a real player was available, and begged them to track. Many tracks get finished because loops libraries were accessed instead of just leaving the arrangement incomplete. I know this thread was started in 2004, but it's a pet peave of mine to inject such politics into the listening process. I would bet my arse that most listeners can't tell the difference and don't really know when loops are used and when they aren't. It's only when told HOW it was done, that the opinion changes. It's pretty shallow for a listener to critique based on HOW things are done. Need drums? Look me up... |

I love this thread because it's almost as old as I am.

Whoever it was that bumped this thread from the depths of well deserved obscurity deserves to be forced at gunpoint to French kiss an octopus.
