Re:MacJams 2.0

We need to be able to tag a song with any collaborators who have MacJams accounts. In other words, the song will automatically appear on the collaborators' song lists, too, not just on the uploader's song list.
It is being done successfully at other music sites. I don't think I need to mention those sites, unless someone wants to see how it's done. |

I personally had no expectations, so there were none to be met.
I totally agree with you that its a nice gesture to see the genesis of MJ 2, but I still don't think the big build up was necessary at this point. As I said originally, the taste of things to come is quite palatable....it will be nice when the full course meal arrives

I'm very excited by the new site and love it that you've brought the fact that this is a musician's community to the forefront, though I agree with Bob, that I'm a macjammer because of the opportunity to share my music with listeners, as much as because of being a member of the coolest online community out there.
I do think it would be a positive move to include the listener somewhat in the "About" section on the front page. Right now it says: MacJams.com opens a new door of opportunity for musicians around the world, providing a means of connecting, collaborating, and fostering the development of new music in a supportive environment. I think it would be great to see some language about the other kinds of things that happen here, like being able to listen to and download an ever-growing library of free independent music. What it should say, I don't know, but I do know that, were I just someone who came to the site to listen, I don't know that I'd feel that the site was directed at me at all. It's important to me, as a member here, that listeners from outside the community feel welcome and that we want them to come back and enjoy the music again and again. Overall guys, I think you've definitely hit the heart of what makes macjams special and it's a great idea to emphasize it. P.S. Thank you so much for all your hard work, S&M |

Hmmm...like I said, I'll be posting when my brain decides to backfire.
I think a cool idea would be, is to have a "How To" page explaining what you need to do in order to link a song/page, post vid's or pic's, show how to start a play list, what faving a song will do, covering question's like, "Where is my flag?", "How come my songs on the player are slow?" etc... From the simple to the complex, but cover all the options and features MacJams has to offer, A user's manual so to say. Maybe even provide a pdf to download? or a guided video tour? Maybe the guided video tour could be a community project here, or even the pdf for that matter? Feedback anyone? |

Thank you for all your feedback, constructive and non-constructive. Significant changes don't happen over night, nor do they happen in a vacuum. Software development is as much art as it is science and anyone that things it's easy, please send over your resume. There is a reason that no one has yet done what we are proposing, it's a complex project. Some days I wish we had started that video sharing site we'd planned to do after MacJams, first.
The reason we posted up the "?" relating to Jan 16th was four-fold. 1) It provided something new on the home page. 2) It was our 4th birthday. 3) It re-energized the interest in the evolution of MacJams. 4) It gave us a carrot to work toward. * We never explicitly stated nor eluded to any big changes, but it seems we've been put on the hot seat for not delivering a shiny new car. Sorry folks, consider this our concept car for the proverbial auto show. A lot of work has gone into it up to this point and there is plenty more to get to where we want to go. And this is the prime reason why we have it parked at beta.macjams.com. It is not ready to replace the old MacJams.com In fact, for the interim, you may find yourself using both sites... one where life continues as it has for 4 years, the other where we are testing new and interesting approaches to collaborative music. ** Those that are wondering if a solo artist will still have a place at MacJams, the answer is a resounding yes. Much of the structure of collaborative work will apply to solo as well as joint projects. Many have asked for versioning, you will have versioning. You wanted more and better feedback on your songs? You'll be getting more. *** I will try and respond as quickly an effectively to questions and comments, but understand that reading and typing takes a lot of time away from development. If you haven't gotten a response, hang in there. Feedback is coming in from multiple directions: "Contact Us", Notes, email, forum posts, phone calls, etc... I hope to have an interactive "feedback" mechanism and an Update Blog ready soon so that we can receive and respond to your inquires in one spot. Thanks again for your support and valuable feedback. For those that "just don't get it", but don't want to solicit their own alternate webspaces, I'll be happy to do it for you. But... But... But... Simon... We've all been waiting for our own personal flying car since The Jetsons. Are we there yet? Now? Huh? Huh? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * All the excitement is good. The hand-wringing, the complaining... no. I don't get it. If you have realistic, interesting suggestions, fine... post them. They'll either be considered and implemented --- or not. BFD! All this whining is so F*ing juvenile. Geez! Grow up... move on. MY LATEST: My take on the classic House Of The... Rising Sun |

Thank you... Simon, your work is VERY appreciated even if it doesn't seem like it. As I said to tobin before (and thank you tobin for replying, I understand where you are coming from now... I meant to offense... there is nothing worse than when someone comes in part way through a development process and tells you it sucks... before you have a hcance to finish it. I hate it when ppl do it to me... I remember one client I had before that I asked repeatedly what functionality they wanted in their website while I was building it so I would have all of the proper ground work laid down. A couple weeks before I was to finish it, they asked me to add another feature, one which was not supported by the framework I installed! I had to rewrite a huge chunk of the base code.... Stupid me had already agreed on a job price and been paid in part.... Anyway, such things are annoying, so people... be constructive with comments and be patient! We've all been the nagging kid before (myself included) but now is not the time to be that kid.... after all, Simon and Miguel are providing a very good service VERY FREE for us.... |
