lets see:

1. i get inspired by being in contact with so many who love music
2. i can "hang out" with musicians who are not saddled with drug problems, and i don't have a hangover after dropping by MJ for awhile.
3. it's easy to collab over the internet. in the real world, schedules get in the way
4. i've learned a lot, thanks to a bunch of friendly helpful people here
5. the challenges are great fun,and always a learning experience
6. i don't have to worry that people will tear me apart if i ask a dumb question
7. i have found some real kindred spirits here
8. in the club scene it's hard to avoid idiots, if someone bums me out here I can just close the page
9. i would record anyways, but not nearly as much as i do; and i certainly wouldn't be paying much attention to quality.
10. i have done a variety of collabs at MJ with many different types of people i wouldn't have met in real life. you guys aren't all "indie" like my real world buddies.

really i could go on forever. i love the music, love having people check out my music; and even when i can't get a chance to listen or record, i love to pop in and see what you're all talking about. you guys/gals are all geeks like me. awesome.

Now THIS is more like it!

Lets see.....

Because it's the only website in the world that has the power to change peoples lives, and i don't mean the 'get famous' type of life changing power, i mean it's the only website in the world that has probably made people re-acquaint themselves with there dusty instruments in order to create music, sometimes with people who are 5000 miles away. Probably the only site you can make genuine friends with people you might've never met before! What is this craziness?! I'd never made friends with someone i'd never met until i joined here. It's the only website in the world that i would sacrifice an episode of family guy for. I signed in specifically to write on this forum page - it's probably the only site that could make me do that too.
I dont mean to spark debate or anything, but i just can't understand why people get so worked up about the 'interface' or layout of the site. It hasn't bothered me one bit really. I get it may be a little irritating, but when people actually announce they're leaving because of the errors and 'bugs' this site apparently has (understandable due to it's 'under construction' status) it really gets me down. To have so many encouraging, talented and inspiring people outweighed by a few minor glitches in the sites interface seems kinda silly.

Basically, this place rocks because of the people.

Well said, Michael. I know you're not really a babe, but rather a gifted young man... but in truth, I have shoes that are older than you are.

Still, I share your sense of bewilderment about those who get so agitated about the website side of this musical community.

When I think back to when I was your age, when I was just beginning to get my feet wet in a musical career... and I remember all the obstacles, the frustrations, the disappointments I faced as I progressed through the years... well, it does seem rather silly to get so exercised about the slow development of the site's design and functionality.

It wasn't what drew me here, more than four years ago... and it certainly isn't what has kept me here. I was drawn here by the quality of the people and the quality of their musical talents.

As much as I would like to, my real life activities currently preclude any substantial socialization or collaboration here. Still, I remain welcome and am pleased to have some casual contact with many members through listener feedback, I.M.s and discussions such as this in The Forums.

While there is certainly much room for improvement here, I still find MJ's a comfortable and friendly place to be. It is a magnet for all those around the world who love to make music, whether they be rank amateurs or accomplished professionals. All get the opportunity to be heard and to gain valuable feedback about their efforts.

Additionally, the collective store of knowledge and experience here is an invaluable resource to all of us. These are the elements which I believe far outweigh any concerns one might have about the site itself.

Substance will always trump form in my book.
