Geting tired of this - be honest please!
Friday, January 20 2006 @ 05:27 PM CST
OK. First let me explain that I'm not tired of MJ but of how MJ works. I had already this conversation in another forum, but this is growing inside me. So, i must talk again.
I'm not at MJ to get good reviews, or having my ass kissed. I started coming here because it was a nice place to show our work, see the work of other amateurs like me and learn something. But MJ is in the way of becoming a place for few and not for all. And all because we are all so nice, that few are capable of making an honest review. I think i never saw a comment saying "it's horrible", and let me tell you, some songs deserved it. "Oh, this guy voted in me! I'll vote him too!" - This sucks. I'm tired of seeing so many good songs with few reviews, sometimes because people don't like the musical style, other times because the guy simply is not an very active member. And the reverse happens too. Some works would be better called "ear assassins", but they get many reviews and great results. "Oh, this music sucks, but the guy is so nice... I'll give him an 8..." And don't think I'm talking about my songs, because i usually feel happy with the reviews i get. Please don't make Macjams an ass-kissing club and be honest when you review a song. If you must say that my songs suck and i would be better fishing, say it! Sorry to all the offended, Luís Rolo. P.S. - i vote for the aleatory review method. I had a Mac and I went back! |

I guess you are right. but, is it so bad to live in a lie, and beleive that people actually like your stuff? Ill quote I famous Norwegian Writer in norwegian, and 10 points to the first to translate it "tar du livsløgnen fra et gjennemsnittsmenneske tar du lykken fra det med det samme." From "The wild duck" By Henrik Ibsen
Check out my latest song: A future that is carrying your weight |

This makes you macJammer #2,434 to post this rant. The way I look at it is - if your music is good enough, you will become one of "the few."

i give honest feedback to everyone and ussually dont even look to see who a song is by when i comment and rate. when a song needs work there's more things to say then it's horrible. friends can be honest, though you may not understand this. yes active members get more feedback and listened to more because they LISTEN more. there for they cause others to get heard more, you think this site would work if no one participated? i understand your points but i think mj is doing just fine. you say you came here to see the work of other amateurs and whats stopping you from doing that? and what's stopping you from showing your work? i don't really understand what you're complaining about. that some people get more comments because they participate more?

I don't want to be "one of the few". I want us all to be equal. (I know this sounds a little communist and utopic but that's my wish.) I had a Mac and I went back! |

If most people here are living by the golden rule (hypothetically) it would follow, from observation, that most people here must want others to adore them.
Isn't that expected from the musician demographic, for the most part? I think that those who prefer criticism are a minority, though a vocal one. screaming.org |

Props for him. At least he was honest. But what i see the most is bad songs with people saying "good work, nice song". How the hell can a guy improve if no one tells him how bad he is? I had a Mac and I went back! |

i will agree strongly with you that people should not have biased votes, that does nothing. and i wish people would listen to songs other then just there friends. personally i try to listen to everyone's songs. everytime one is asked to be listened to, i listen to my friends songs, i go through the genres, i go through every part on the side. i comment on as much as i can regardless of who it's by or the style. and give as honest votes as i can. i don't even look at who does a song when i listen and comment. it just happens that some of my friends tend to have a strong music sense so i give alot of good comments to them, because alot of the musicians on here are great. if i hear something could be changed i say so. i know this isn't true of all macjammers and it is a bit of a problem. but the world won't change in a day.
