The new FireWire 18/14 is an 18-in/14-out FireWire audio/MIDI interface including 8 channels of ADAT Lightpipe I/O and 8 x 4 analog I/O. Complete with two channels of mic/instrument preamps, this exciting new piece is perfect for project studios that want to go all digital.

eltopo 9/10 This is a fantastic audio interface that probably provides an 'all you need' solution for most home studios. M-audio's input/output numbers are always confusing. 18/14 refers to digital and analogues connections. as most people are more interesting in how many analogues sources they can tape, well, the m-mudio can take 10 inputs- enough to record a whole rock band live, no problems. Outputs are 4 analogue and 8 digital (ADAT compatible), although as I work entirely within the computer once the sounds are taped this is less important. Two decent-quality mic-preamps are included with combi 1/4 XLR sockets on the front. If you want to add gain to any other inputs you'll need more pre-amps - M-audio's range is pretty good quality and reasonably priced. The device is firewire, and I can happily say the driver is rock-solid and recognised by Garageband perfectly.
