Description:
tried to touch into the 1930's sound, sort of a django reinhardt influence. but, well... not. ugh.

anyhow, i wanted to create a sweet, simple melody with a sticky hook and rusty sound as a companion to the other songs for my "virtual cd," called Minotaur.

i hope you like it! any suggestions would be grately appreciated as this is something i plan on tinkering with more in the future.

Lyrics:
Ballerine en Bleu
by me and boris the bull (3:30)

i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina it's true
i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina in blue

and when she's feeling lonely, she'll do a pirouette or two

i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina, you see
i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina for me

and when i'm feeling lonely, she'll do petit sautes for me

and if you saw my ballerina dance, you'd feel the same as me

i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina it's true
i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina in blue

and when she's feeling lonely, she'll do a pirouette or two

i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina, you see
i'm in love with a ballerina
and she is only three

and when i'm feeling lonely, she'll do petit sautes for me

and if you saw my ballerina dance, you'd feel the same as me

i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina it's true
i'm in love with a ballerina
a ballerina in blue

and if you're feeling lonely , she'll do a plie just for you

and if you saw my ballerina dance then you would love her, too

j'aime une ballerine, une ballerine en bleu...

Like opening the window and letting in the sweetest

Heh &mdash 05/17/05 - 02:12:12 PM
I love your lyrics and the way you sing this Boris.
excllent retro feel about the whole track.
It kinda reminds me of the opening tune to a kids
programme called Camberwick Green here in the UK.
anyway
cool track

Howdy, Neighbor! &mdash 05/17/05 - 03:21:43 PM
This melody is really quite sticky. I've just been humming it to myself relentlessly. It reminds me of Fred Rogers, which is a compliment as I think Mr. Rogers was a genius and a great songwriter.

I would clean up the sound though that's just me, but then again you knew that!

Sweet little tune &mdash 05/17/05 - 04:58:48 PM
Very nice...production is quite eccentricly 'retro' but I like
it. Well sung.

Good gosh... &mdash 05/17/05 - 05:45:02 PM
This is a beautiful, beautiful song. Beautiful chordwork, beautiful sentiment. One of the best-written songs I've heard here.

Call me a soppy Dad &mdash 05/17/05 - 05:50:08 PM
My ballerina just had her annual dance recital- I dare say she was at least as beautiful as yours.

Great song, I really appreciate the sentiment!

Wonderful! &mdash 05/17/05 - 07:01:34 PM
Mr. Boris,
Everything is so nice in the this tune, Your voice guitar
AND song content. You craft wonderful lyrics, always. I
suppose the guitar doesn't have to be soooo clipped to be
retro, as your voice has a retro feel with out distortion. I'm
just quibbling, though. Excellent!

Hey. &mdash 05/17/05 - 10:26:52 PM
This is nice. :D

infectious &mdash 05/18/05 - 01:26:13 PM
Now that you have the jumpy little melody in everybody's
head for the rest of time...
Suggestions: I would crank down the distortion on the
guitar. I don't know if it is intentional or not but it's a bit
distracting. The other thing I would say is make this piece
much shorter. I think the impact would be more
significant if it were around a minute plus.
All in all, a lovely little tune performed in a genuine
manner.

So cute. &mdash 05/18/05 - 10:33:44 PM
Sweet and simple. This melody will be spinning in my
head like a tiny ballerina in a music box.

Deceptive &mdash 05/19/05 - 07:17:55 PM
I nearly gave up on this tune 30 seconds in, but was
subliminally compelled to stay with it... 60 seconds in and I
was thoroughly hooked. Simple but engaging, love it when
you're voice reaches a peak 'a ballerina in BLUUUUUUE!', very
funny for some reason.

Deceptive &mdash 05/20/05 - 12:19:54 AM
well, first off, hunormous thanks to everyone who gave this a listen and
replied. i'm overwhelmed at how folks here jump right in and feedback. thank
you!

i'm glad you found something funny in this. whenever i listen to it, at some
point i crack a smile because it's just so frickin' sappy and silly. it's one of
those songs i sing to an audience that is three years old and who just adores
singing along, literally doing pirouettes as i pluck away. that alone just cracks
me up!

anyhow, bless you all for such wonderful, kind words. humbled is too short a
word to express my reaction! thank you!

Way to go BTB

Like that mega phone sound.

Dancing into your heart &mdash 05/20/05 - 08:11:48 AM
Very sweet. The simple polka groove and Paul McCartney
style (think Ram) vocals and effects works really well.
In my ears, sometimes you sing in a sillier voice than
needed (toward the end, when you go up high, esp) and
might sound more patronizing than simply having a great
time with the song; cuz the lovely honesty of the song is
enough to carry it for me. Perhaps the track is a little too
long for the subject and style, as well. But it is such
tender, sweet, cute, well balanced lyrics, and free delivery,
it is a great gift for your daughter.

Nice sound &mdash 05/20/05 - 09:20:00 PM
This is cool. Good songwriting and I really like the overall tone of this one. The french at the end and that final chord are nice touches. --D

neat tune &mdash 05/22/05 - 06:49:23 PM
& catchy, too-dammit! the only thing it's missing are some
scratchy hisses & pops to make it sound really old.. but then
again, i hate faking it! guess we're just gonna have to wait 70
years or so. nice job

Great song :) &mdash 05/22/05 - 06:49:41 PM
Well done, well sung!
Catchy tune, adorable subject--I like the treatment of the
vocals. Adding the French bits was a nice touch, too.

Just a delightful song all the way around. Thank you!

going for the high notes &mdash 05/23/05 - 10:52:51 AM
The first time through I thought it was too long by a verse, but by the second time that concern dropped away and I was able to enjoy it all unabashedly. I love it when you go up for those high notes.

wish you have real tuba &mdash 05/23/05 - 01:18:06 PM
VERY nice little melody ... memorable to the extreme ...
good effect on vocal ... something about guitar needs
adjust ... i will leave that to guitar experts here ... really
wish you have real tuba sound, which would put this piece
over the top!

Naive... &mdash 05/24/05 - 07:14:02 PM
...and sweet! I agree, a tuba would be awesome, but would
not have thought of it without previous posters comment.
No matter what, this is really, really cool!

sit right on the White Album or some of his early Wings
stuff.

Yeah, sort of sounds like Paul -- and a bit like Jeff Lyne.
Cool!!!

Reminds me of the acoustic side of XTC.

It's sweet, lovely, and wonderful. It is a pure joy!
