The only thing
I didn't like is the production on this one. I don't think the
line hum is doing you any favours and when you've got
words as good as these, shouldn't they be out front a bit
more?

I really liked the subtle way the story comes out in
metaphor and allusion. A very creative approach to the
lost love theme.

thanks!
yeah, the production... i originally did some of the guitar
tracks on old teac four track and then "digitized" and
imported into GB. hence, the noise... very lo-fi -
hopefully in a cool way. need to do a retake on the
vocals, but at this point the song file is so large with so
many real instruments it creates a memory/playback
problem and hard to make edits to this version... hence
how it kinda falls apart at the end. anyway, thanks for the
kind words on the lyrics and structure... thinking about
starting over and skipping the first chorus - so that the
first two verses run together and makes the song a bit
shorter.

thanks!
Just a couple of quick points. You know about bouncing combined tracks to
iTunes, to make more space, right?

Secondly, I had no problem with the length of the tune and the first few
words were what hooked me, for what that's worth.

cheers

Great full guitar sound
I like it...but yeah I agree that the 'hum' at the beginning is
a bit offputting. Classy production otherwise though!

Vocal Buried
I agree that it is a cool song and nice guitar playing but
you need better production and mix.

Love the wall of sound
This is a great track comp. I dig it. Love the guitar
sound! Good vocals as well. Nice to hear your new
material.

pls redo the vocals
man... the vocals could use a little more practice and a
redo, and then wham! love the lyrics - don't want them to
be buried. but my favorite part is how yoo come out of
the bridge/solo part ... love the guitar spaciness craziness
on the last chorus. cool track! cooler if you redo the
vocals!!!!!!!

thoughts from the bull...
musically, this tune really kicked my tail. seriously, for me
it's just rocking out and keeps grooving right to the end.
GREAT music... polished and heavy, but not overdone.

but something happened with the vocals. they just sit
behind the landscape and never come forward the way
they could.

those vocals (and i think you really only need one track on
them, myself) need you to lift them off the landscape and
make them the most prominent character on the stage.

this has the potential to be a really kickarse song, but
those vocals need ownership and power behind them.
once you nail that, this tune is going to bust out.

just my obnoxious thoughts, anyway. thank you for
sharing this.

Is there a bass in this thing?
Lots of bass drum, and somewhere in the back I think
something is playing the fundamental. This mix sounds too
mid-rangey for my taste. The guitars and vocals are too
much in each other's way.

Cool sound
Maybe it's the low-fi elements, but it has a cool sound. I
think actually it could work keeping the vocals buried in
the mix, but up a little from where they are no. Some very
cool textures in the song. Reminds me a lot of early
Psychedelic Furs. Enjoyed it ver much.

Thanks!
Appreciate all the feedback -- this recording is rather lo-fi for a few reasons: I wanted it to be; I recorded most of the instruments with a 4track; and it was probably my first mixing effort in GB. However, I tried to a bit of a remix to address some of the concerns and now have posted that version on MJ -- Old Wounds V2... check it out please, and see if you like it better. Thanks again!!!!!!!

keep the hum!
This reminds me of early 80's Psychedelic Furs, and all that pre-Pixies fantastic garage psychedelia.

I'm 37 now and when I was in my teens and early 20's, this would have been played over and over in my car stereo.

I like the dirty guitars as well....I think the hum and buzz kind of add to the additude of the piece.

Just one opinion from an ex-punk.

I'm 31 and have been playing guitar since I was 9. I really wanted to play the drums, but my mom wanted me to play church songs and Christmas songs, so I took guitar lessons. Didn't really like it at first. Then, in junior high, I discovered The R... [see more]
