Lyrics
Verse #1
At the end of the day,
phoned my wife, I’m on my way.
Think I’ll stop and have a beer.
She said, that’s OK dear.

I walked into the room,
of my favorite saloon.
The bartender said there’s some kid in your seat.
I said, that’s OK Pete.

He looked so out of place,
a tear rolled down his face.
I said, you OK you’re lookin kinda tight?
He said, yeah I’m alright.

I’m cryin about my wife,
too young to lose her life.
And as he spoke my ears began to ring.
I heard angels singin.

Chorus.

I wish we had more time.
I’d love to make you mine.
Now until the end of time.
A hard as I’ve tried.
Through all the tears I’ve cried.
I’ll never see you comin home to me.
So sad it’s over, my broken heart.
You know I love you.
Today I brought this candle home with me,
it’s in the window. my broken heart.
Oh I miss you.

Verse #2
We shared a jug of ale.
I listened to his tale.
Hit and run she was 19 when she died.
And that’s when I cried.

My wife was in my head.
Words I’ve never said.
If she was gone I’d be here all alone.
I had to get home.

I heard an angel song.
How love can be so strong.
I’ll hold her in my arms and then I’ll say.
You know I love you.

Chorus.

Verse #3.
I’ll never see that kid.
Or thank him for what he did.
To remind me of the love I feel for you.
I’ll just say thank you.

Many years have now gone by.
Sometimes I sit and cry.
An angels song keeps playin in my head.
Now that my wifes dead.

Chorus.

Ending.

Today I brought this candle home with me.
It’s in the window, my broken heart.
Oh I miss you.
It’s in the window, my broken heart.
You know I love you.

Worked for me
This version worked for me CJ. I have no other
suggestions except to say that you might want to give
some consideration to Vic's comments on version 1. Vic's
a crusty old bugger (tell'im I said so) but he's pretty sharp
musically.

Now, get out there and comment/vote on some other
people's tunes.
Keep coming back, it works pal.

Vocals much improved
This is a much better way to handle the vocals.

Lyrics are still fine, and the main melody line is a solid
melody, so that's good, but my objections to the repetition
still stand. You clearly know how to write a decent melody,
so sit down with it and try to come up with a different line
for the 3rd line of the verse and the first of the chorus. Right
now the verse is too long, and the chorus doesn't contrast
enough.

All in my crusty old opinion, of course :-)

nice song :)
I agree that ths is a good produced song. Although there is not a lot
happening in the music you keep listening.
Maybe you could change a bit in the instruments during the chorus.
Or maybe sing these lines in a somewhat different style.. maybe just a bit
more energic to get a contrast with the verses.

So True
This song reminds me of the great times, mt Tess had in Ireland, she passed away 4 years ago.In a town called Abbey Feale, in County Limerick, they had fair day, livestock plus, were selling faster than I have ever seen, and the traditional spit on the hand, and a load slap. That day and night the long bar was packed,i think I had 16 pints,Tess was singing, dancing, playing her guitar, or piano.I keep a light in the candle for her.
I guess only the good die young, and she was kind to everyone, but I had the honor of having my rose for 49 years.Joy,I have some tapes she sang on.
Peace,
Thanx for pleasant memories, music soothes.
Great lyrics.
