Lyrics
In a Chinese painting
Hanging opposite my bed
A scholar contemplates the beauty
Of cherry blossoms hanging over his head
They say he intoxicated with the beauty
But I think he’s drunk on wine
And after he puts down another bottle
He’ll lose track of the time

In my time of darkness
When I couldn’t find a friend
I spent days painting nightmares
In cobalt and alizarin
But you coaxed me out of my hiding place
By offering me a poem
I said, “Honey, I want to paint you”
You laughed and took me home

At the Chinese laundry
One block down and around
You can recycle your underwear
For forty five cents a pound
I like to recycle my canvases
Painting new scenes over the old
As I rework the details
Art turns into a life metaphor

A dust settles over the city
As the evening sun tumbles low
Commuters without lives scramble back to their homes
To watch televised reality shows
As I sit here getting drunk on your beauty
I feel a stirring in my heart
I’ll be the paint, you be the canvas
And together we’ll make art

Distinked sound
Warren, you have a unique style. The way you squeeze out
your consonants and vowels reminds me of...

The lyrics: what can I say? A cerebration of life and art.
Skin and fabric, dust and cherry blossoms -- what more is
there to contemplate? Alizarin Crimson and Cobalt
Blue...good pigment choices.

Excellent song art -- who painted it?

Distinked sound
I should have known those pigments would appeal to the painter in you. I wanted to work in a "cadmium orange" sun, but I thought that became excessive coloration. Thanks for commenting, Richard.

The art work is one of Tim's paintings. He also does a great job painting with sound.

Cool
Psychotic Neil Young sound.

Cool
I wonder which of us brought the psychosis to the collaboration?
Thanks for your analysis, Mungo.

the days of wine and underwear
Just so you know - we didn't consciously lift "wine and recycled underwear" from another song.
In fact, you've made me curious - I'm going to have to google those words to see what other songs are out there. Thanks for the tip.

Word paintings
I really like the lyrics on this song. Wonderful imagery and
some tricky turns. Great storytelling!

Great lyrics
I love the rhyming of "friend" with "alizarin"; very clever indeed. It's a great idea for a song, how art changes the ordinary into the extraordinary and allows us to connect with one another, getting "drunk on (each other's) beauty."

Cool.

Great lyrics
Tim and I are artists as well as musicians, so it seemed like a natural topic to write about for our first collaboration. Thanks for listening and commenting - both on the song in general and on specific lyrics.

hey greeaaat song...
A download of our first collaboration - which proved to be as much of a learning experience as a creative experiment - is a great thing to hear.
Thanks, Listen, for listening!

That's a fun comparison, Eleveneyes - thanks for commenting. Just so you
know, Tim's the one with the baby (you can listen to his cool "baby" songs

Chunky, funky sound
This has a whirling dervish quality to. Really cool sound
you have created. Lyrics seem wacky and profound at the
same time. I dig the art, too!

Chunky, funky sound
You never know what kind of sound is going to get whipped up by a collaboration. That's part of the fun of it. Thanks for commenting.

nice beat and words
Like the very unusual rhythm. Like how you weave the
words and fit in the music to fit the words.

Nice going

nice beat and words
It's amazing how much those factors changed through the collaborative process. Some of the song's original fabric remained, but much of the rhythm and texture wove itself into a different kind of textile. Our general thought was to have fun with it, not so much in a comedic sense, but as a creative experiment. Thanks for coming by and commenting, Tiler.

Quirky
Liked the nasal sneer delivery of this thing.. maybe could use
a chorus? Kind of jolly, bitter and oblique at the same time.
Like the painting too, the work of one of your guys?

Great team
I've always thought that, as individuals, your music has
not gotten as much attention as it deserved. I'm really
glad to see such enthusiastic responses here.

As far as the song goes- to me it's kind of a Crazy Horse
meets The Band kind of thing. In other words- wicked
cool!

clunky, funky
Not bad for some guys from the Quad Cities. I seemed to
have missed this collaboration now. For some reason this
reminds me of early Dirk Hamilton (see 1978 LP "Meet Me
at the Crux"), a wonderful songwriter who penned
"Mouthful of Suck" and "Billboard on the Moon." It took me
a while to get used to the vocals here, sort of spoken, but
I adapted and really, really like the funky middle section
with the organ. This sound you two have is distinctive,
and the intelligent lyrics are a joy to read & hear.

hi
I really loved this song as an artist it spoke for my unspoken words that I
find easy to thread and wrap in and around with paint on a canvas, I have
so many paintings under eachother at times ......on the one canvas that
is...only with my music I am still too inhibited to show my colors but when
I listen to music like this and your words wow I love tim mcfate's songs
and this is just totally out there your words are like looking and hearing a
painting on canvas I love your sounds voice everything fantastic, regards
