Lyrics
Rolling over the Sulphur City
All those people all that talk
Jumping round from room to room
One more trip around the block
One more trip to where the people meet
But it’s not cuba street
It’s not you and me
It’s not your book it’s not your pages it’s not all of your favorite places
It’s not you
And it’s not Cuba Street
[solo]
Hanging on by my fingertips
On the top part of the globe
Everyone goes everywhere
But where I want to go
So they say but I am still asleep
But it’s not cuba street
It’s not you and me
It’s not your book it’s not your pages it’s not all of your favorite places
It’s not you
And it’s not Cuba Street
But it’s not cuba street
It’s not you and me
It’s not your book it’s not your pages it’s not all of your favorite places
It’s not you
And it’s not Cuba Street

Nice, direct, energetic...
... stuff. I have nothing constructive to say because, well, I
don't think it needs it.

Sounds solid
Sounds really good. I can't really add anything either. Just
good, radio-ready, catchy music.

Good one
Nice and original - tight as the proverbial fish's -
would like to have heard the bass much
bigger in the mix though.

Harmony
I like the harmonies in this! Although, I think you could bring the volume up a bit on the vocals.

Nice!

DL/8s!

Straight Ahead
Good solid sound....good drive. I enjoy the texture of
your lead vocal. This track has a nice hook and causes my
head to bop! The mix to me sounds nice and
balanced.....there were just a couple places the drums
sounded muddy and subdued...but did not take a way
from the piece whatsoever (just a personal drum thing
with me). Great work.

Like those guitar sounds. reminds me of an era like the
beatles and other groups when they first came out. Nice

everything old becomes new again...this sounds like the
kinks to me...very 60's guitars cleverly played and nicely
in tune. definately not my cup of tea, music wise, but a
great song and recording. the hard work and dedication
shows. Nice drummer too! Go get em!!

fabulous
Lovely Byrdsy tones and great melody coming
through on this, with bits of Steve Earle and early-
REM thrown in for good measure with a big slab of
orginality.

Dunno what the lyrics are about. IS this pro or anti
Cuba Street?

Anyway. Top stuff.

Sorry for another comparison, but...
...you also remind me of the Wallflowers a bit. I think it's
your vocal quality. This is very tight and pro. Way to go.
Hope your album does well!

compyellow said 1645 days ago (May 26th, 2005)
thanks for all of the nice compliments!
A few thiings I should add about the song's meaning... it's about a very fun and special place in a very cool part of the world -- mainly, about how other places remind one of being at this place, but really don't compare.

Absolute music
I really, really like this!
It has all the right sounds for me--the guitar (wow) the
vox (nice harmonies at just the right time) and a breezy,
easy-going pace that takes the song right where it needs
to go...
On my playlist ;)

Thanks for this!

classic rock'n roll
Warren Zevon could easely have had this on his repetoir I guess.
This is radio ready and you should have a hit with this! All inn all a professional recording. All instruments is contributing and does a great job for this song.
This is a kind of song that you will love to play load in the car, rolling down the window to feel the cooling breeze a warm summer day.

I wish you luck:-)

Thanks again!
A few more comments.... This track (along with Shining
Hour, Can't Tell You, and a few others) were recorded
ourselves using ADAT tape -- we added overdubs, mixed
and mastered in ProTools. The other songs in my library
were done solely by me using the bare minimum of
equipment -- just an eMac (and its pinhole mic), GB 1,
and whatever guitar stuff I had at the time.

Decent
I liked it. A bit boring, lacked oomph, but overall good. The
progressions/solo and vocals reminded me of the
Undertones with less vigor. A tad short as well.

Nice voice, nice production on everything. Interesting and
refreshing structure with little additions everywhere. With
more backing vocals this is radio-ready.

I'm 31 and have been playing guitar since I was 9. I really wanted to play the drums, but my mom wanted me to play church songs and Christmas songs, so I took guitar lessons. Didn't really like it at first. Then, in junior high, I discovered The R... [see more]
