Description
This could be considered what Tobin Mueller would call "shish kabob" music - chunks of music slapped together along a sequential skewer. But the chorus is the escape from all the crazy stuff going on with life, it's the escape i get when i look into my gal's eyes.

this song opens and closes with guitar solos that are almost a minute long each. so be warned!

Lyrics
IN MY TIME
©2005 Ray Kainz / MooShu Music

Even though we are the product of generations of spiritual gestation, revelation and education, exploration and exclamation, we still find ourselves at the crossroads at every moment of every day, looking ourselves in the mirror and asking – am I making things better, or am I making them worse?

I reap what I did not sew, therefore
I keep what I did not grow I know
There will be no more we can afford
Export tomorrow to another shore
If we stagnate our obligate
to consolidate our spirit fate
I got the feeling once we get back home
I doubt we’ll even want to be there.

TV’s filling me to capacity
Force feeding the news and negativity
Pop sound is found while you lose your soul
Suffocated by greed, and the need to control
Despite the plight that tempts us all
Here’s the news, Jack – I refuse to take a fall

In my time Sometimes I find
Your Love too beautiful to be divine
In my time No reasons no rhymes
for your Love, too beautiful to be just mine

In order for the universe to be aware of itself, we need to forget about ourselves. Despite the billions of years of evolving wisdom, sometimes humanity starts all over again from the beginning every single day. Every moment is that beginning. Every decision is a turn. Every action penetrates. Every word vibrates. Every thought radiates. And all is forever.

An American flag flies on the moon
but tomorrow is much much too soon
To soothe the cries of the hungry and oppressed
While you inflate the weight of your war chest
We can send a monkey into space
Tuck a tummy and replace a worn out face
What we really need’s a soul transfusion
Intuitive electromagnetic intrusion
I’m not sayin’ that I’m perfect or I’m right
I don’t see what some call black and white
if we pull together as a team
We can overthrow the revenue regime
No fear, no war, no hate no doubt
Peace and love and harmony throughout
And you, I could never be without
Never without you.

In my time Sometimes I find
Your Love too beautiful to leave behind
In my time No reasons no rhymes
for your Love, too beautiful to be just mine

Shish kabob tastes so good
Very cool changes. Really like the guitar solos, the "In my
time" sections and the changes out of that; the music bed
under the talking is very nice, even tho the talking is
something I have a hard time embracing (I think it was the
delivery tho, not the content, which seemed less honest
than the rest of the really well performed vocals). The
funky punk hip hop style singing is full of energy, really
well done. I dig how the political-social rant (which got a
bit overwrought in my ears) dissolves into a personal
statement of love and relationship; a perfect way to use
shish kabob music. Another exiting, inventive, driving,
well paced track well wedding to the overall concept of the
lyrics. Extremely well performed and mixed. Great work.

I like the guitar solos...did you use a wah, or the autowah in GB? (sorry for the guitar nerd question)

guitar solos
oh yeah, I forgot about the wah, sorry for not listing it in the "harware"
section but yes i used a Morley Bad Horsie 2 Contour Wah for the outro solo.
Thanks for the question Jim!

Heh,
That first chorus has shades of early (Gordon Sumner
'Sting').
Brilliant guitar intro and I love your vocal delivery over
the whole track. Great live feel to the whole track
Excellent arrangement and production as always.

What can I say?
This is one of the all time bests I've heard on MJ. I could go
on and on about what I like about this, the lyrics, the
delivery, the changes... it's too much to get into. Great
mastering job to finish it off, too.

a 50/50 bar for me
I have to break this down to it's elements.

The guitar intro and outro is terriffic. What is that
buzzzz? Is that the snare vibrating? Fuzz on the bass?

The rap vocal section brings the song to a screeching halt
for me. Putting aside my dislike for that "10 pounds of
words in a 5 pound bag" cadence, it just doesn't tie the
song together for me. I can't understand 3/4 of the what
the singer is saying. Utterly incomprehensible.

OTOH, the "In my time" sections are truly outstanding,
especially the second one and the way it closes out the
song.

My hat's off to an obviously monumental and ambitious
project.

Soul Brother from Another Planet!
Okay, you need to let go and really say what's on your
mind... come on, open up, we can handle it....
Great tune, you Soul Brother from Another Planet! You are
groovy in the ways of Pluto, mesmerizing in methods of
Mars, sensual in the dark arts of Venus, and as funky as
the rings of Saturn!!!!!
When's the show? Can I buy advanced tickets now?
One thing... intro sounded like an outro... but I'm sure
that is what you intended. Excellent axe manipulation as
well.
Bravo!!!!!!!

Long guitar solos and more...

First, I love good guitar solos. We need more of them
and your intro and endings are just plain top drawer
rock. But there is so much more. That chorus..."In
my time..." that melodic vocal harmony break is a
beautiful interlude in this high powered rock scat. So
much content packed into those vocals... I am glad I
had the lyrics. You always offer up something that is
different and surprising. Nice!!

Someone just slapped you with some malicious low
votes... arrgh! To be expected I guess.

Take another bow, Ray.

Facinating
Guitars are hot.
The 'in my time part' is very pretty
The 'In order for the universe to be aware of itself....' part borders on profound. That, I'm very impressed with. I might want to get that tattooed somewhere on my body. Did you write that?

How do you do it?
It's pretty humbling to listen to your music. But at the
same time it does push me to want to create better
tunage. Love how this is done in bits and pieces... like
completely different songs tied together. Very creative.

Way too cool for this planet
A delicious mix artfully and skillfuly crammed on to a
metal skewer and roasted over a fire. I hear some
Fishbone and Living Color influences. Awesome!

great groove
really like the bass work on this. great bass line. the
intro guitar solo is cool, but kinda goes on a little long...
then it takes a 24/7 Spiez or Living Color vibe. Actually,
this song is very Living Color. I miss those guys. Thanks
for bringing it back. Whoa- what a dramatic change the
chorus is. Interesting!

oh, eleveneyes
This track is a work of art that speaks to me on every level and
at every moment. The groove, the solo guitar, the twangy
rhythm, the heavy riff underneath the rap, the rap, the lyrics
all the way through, its shish-kabobitudinousossity, "...I refuse
to take a fall", the comparatively tranquil chorus, the harmonic
changes, "in-too-uh-tive eh-lec-tro-mag-uh-net-ic in-tru-zhun"
(made the fucking hairs on my arms stand up the first time i heard it)
the vocal fadeout...everything.
