Description
This is the old Irish folk song that so many people know. I recorded the piano part on a Clavinova about four years ago, and saved it to floppy disc. (Digital is forever!) My friend David, who plays in my jazz trio, recently supplied the drum part (you are hearing real drums, not loops). The bass is from Sonic Boom Box, and it's called "Jazz Double Bass Soft."
I have really enjoyed collaborating with drlaine for so many wonderful tracks. David and I did this one together because, first, he's a great drummer (like drlaine), and second, he plays in my jazz trio, and since I have a CD coming out, we wanted David to be on the CD, so we can sell more CDs at gigs.
At my public school elementary music job, one of my responsibilities is to play the "Morning Music" on the PA. Usually it's Bach, Mozart, and the like, but at times it's seasonal, like this special song for St. Patrick's Day. My principal said to me, "Do we have any special Irish music for St. Patrick's Day morning music?" So I had a choice -- go to a store and buy a CD of Irish music (this was before the iTunes music store), or record my own on the Clavinova, and play my own recording for the school's "Morning Music. " I opted for the latter. It was a lot more fun!
My original recording used the Clavinova's on-board rhythm section for the drum parts (which really were not too bad), but "live" is always better. So, I hope you all enjoy this one. David and I enjoyed putting it together. My other friend Mark has a studio in his basement, with a real drum set, so in exchange for David tuning his drums, he was kind enough to record David playing along with my piano/bass track.

Lyrics
Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.
And if you come, when all the flowers are dying
And I am dead, as dead I well may be
You'll come and find the place where I am lying
And kneel and say an "Ave" there for me.
And I shall hear, tho' soft you tread above me
And all my dreams will warm and sweeter be
If you'll not fail to tell me that you love me
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
I'll simply sleep in peace until you come to me.
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side
The summer's gone, and all the flowers are dying
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow

I love Danny Boy, it's one of my favorite pieces. I am often times reluctant to hear a song out of it's original genre (in this case folk), but you guys did a fantastic job! I love it! 10s across the board.
