Description:
Still in its infancy. The changes I've made thus far may not make it into the final mix, which will probably not be complete for quite a while (too busy these days). Anyway, thanks for listening. Peace.

very cool. nice soundtrack. this took my breath away!
thanks for sharing!

Jim Bouchard
Not sure how to comment on this as it seems to be very accomplished. Cinematic!
quintesson
This is a well put together piece. I'm reminded of Metal
Gear Solid which this track could easily form the title to.
Its well executed and you got yerself an fan on this alone!
basil81
I really wasn't expected these kinds of reviews, and for
that I'm quite thankful. Don't know what else to say...well,
I plan on finishing (extending?) the ending, it's a little
sparse (truth is, got lazy and decided to post the song
anyway). There are a few kinks in the production which
need attention, either that or I need new speakers, lol.
Now all I need is a movie/game to go with it and I'm good.
;P
Cameron
As a symphonic musician, I truly appreciate this track. It is
EXCELLENT. Great writing, interesting musical content.
Very grandiose like a film score.
What software did you use here, please? It is truly
wonderful. Nice length too; very economical, not too short
or too long.
basil81
Thank you very much. The software used here was GarageBand2 and JamPack 4. I'm really flattered that you enjoyed it Cameron. Perhaps someday we could collaborate. Thanks again for the kind words!

Cameron
...and thank YOU for your response. I'm always curious about the software
used, especially on a piece this good.
JP4 is indeed wonderful; I'm having a ball with it too! And I've heard some
truly great stuff by folks here using JP4. Pretty decent for not much $$.
I look forward to your next submission! (I'm busily working on
mine...combination of real instruments and JP4.)
SlimGirlFat
Outrageously brilliant soundtrack here..
great production and arrangement.
excellent Basil.

basil81
Wow, that's very flattering coming from the one and only Slimmie herself!! Thank you very much. I hope to do more stuff like this in the future, but I just took a job as a Restaurant Manager and so the only time I'll have with GarageBand will be the few hours on Sundays that I'll have.
Thanks to all here for providing this guy with an awsome place to hang out and post music. Awsome...

epic feel to the piece . . .
i see rambo and robin hood teaming up to
slay the evil empire . . .
nice one
basil81
Yeah, brilliant innit?
Thanks man, I appreciate the comment. Sunday is the day to come back here and listen to all yall's new stuff. Look forward to it.

This is a towering piece of music. Majestic, epic in scope.
A little synthy sounding in places (where trailing reverb
doesn't persist long enough). But most of it is quite
convincing. Wonderful development and pacing. Great
percussion. I'm jealous. You done real good.
basil81
Thank you kindly rschletty. Know what you mean about the synthy parts, and I think I just might have the solution. If it works, I'll post it in the forums, if not, well then...nevermind.
Thanks again!!

What might work is hooking up your Mac to some quality speakers in an
auditorium or church and recording the GB file output with another Mac or an
analog reel-to-reel. That ought to sound convincing. I'm going to test ought
this idea soon.
jgurner
Very dynamic. The percussion in the second half adds a
lot of excitement to the piece.
basil81
Thank you jgurner. I was a little worried that the percussion would get a little
repetitive, but those worries are out the window now. I got a big old beaming
smile on my face, you guys have really made my day!

mastershake
This is an exceptional peice of work. I mean, damn dude,
that was awsome.
basil81
Thank you very much mastershake. Making the music is reward enough,
getting all of these awsome positive feedback from you guys is the bonus I
don't deserve. Awsome.

Let us know if you figure out how to make the synths
sound less synthy - good luck.
I liked this, very majestic. I like the contrast between
sections and the drama throughout. Use of Percussion is
most excellent.
And I worked in the restaurant business for 8 years. You
are going to be very busy.
basil81
Thanks Mungo. Yup the restaurant (called Fuzion, Lake Norman, North
Carolina, stop on by for a drink yall) is killing me! But it's fun.
I've met some cool people though, and when I get some time, I'll start some
pre-production work on that movie I told you about. Will keep you posted on
that one.
Thanks again Mungo!

ziti
very very good!!! congrats to you!!! in my iPod, thank you!
basil81
Thank you so much! I love the concept of having one of my songs be on
someone's ipod. It's quite rewarding, and humbling. I enjoy my time here as
much as anything I do, I'm lovin' it.
Thanks again!!

Einarus, you are too kind. Thank you.

ziti
this is really an incredible piece!!!!how on earth did you do
it??
basil81
Thanks again ziti!
Ok, as soon as I got JamPack 4, I fiddled around with each instrument so as I
could familiarize myself with them. During my free time I'd
hum a tune in my head and played the notes and recorded them and took it
from there. I also researched the standard orchestraic set up (where all the
sections are, brass, woodwinds, strings, etc) and tried to place each section
where they'd normally go in an orchestra.
The rest came together as I conjured up every soundtrack I've ever heard, and
tried to put some of myself in there as well.
It has been my dream for some time now to create a symphonic piece, and GB
and JP4 made it all possible. If you don't already have JP4, I suggest you get it
immediately, you WON'T be sorry!

_nderscore
i really enjoyed how this evolves. it reminds me of the planet
of the apes soundtrack in places (hope you take that as a
serious compliment!). very well done, can't wait to see what
else you come up with. DL'd
basil81
I take that as more than a compliment. Danny Elfman is definitely one of my
favorite composers, I even liked some of Oingo Boingo stuff he did back in
the day. Thanks again _nderscore for the kind words and support!
I will do my best to come up with something new as time permits, stay tuned.

I love it
This to me is really nicely done.
Lots a suspence
Good going!

The Tiler, my man!
Thanks buddy, always a pleasure having you listen to my stuff. I'm so busy these days that I don't get a chance to reply often, or leave comments on other folks' stuff, but lemme tell ya, One Bad Dude is phreakin' awsome!
Peace!!

Macaudion
Why, because you are eight notches above me on the charts and I had the priviledge of rating you higher than what I'm getting rated... How could I not, this is so very impressive. It is beyond my minds ability to know how you guys get these complex and amazing/warm/dynamic/highly structured and sophisticated pieces out of a big plastic box. I'm not sure that I could ever handle knowing...

Here lies true GENIUS !
Ed Hannifin
...and I've got to tell ya, this wouldn't ordinarily be my cup of
tea...I wouldn't ordinarily be surfing through the Game/
Soundtrack songs as much...me and my dumb prejudices...
You know one of the things that stands out here? Use of
dynamics...softs to LOUDS!...but without sounding
manipulative, like, WATCH I"M GOING TO DO DYNAMICS
NOW...the piece feels organic and it feels cinematic...
Nice. I hope you know how nice, too, especially if you have to
get back to GarageBand on Sundays only...This is GOOD...
jiguma
Just like being at the movies - hard to believe all this
came out of GB!! Fantastic!
drakonis
This is quite good. I like your minor chord progressions,
good use of percussion and brass. Nice
compelling driving buildup through the piece. There were
a couple of places where the brasses and strings all
dropped off together rather unnaturally & sounded
synthetic, but that was pretty much swamped by the rest
of the well-done crescendos. So, this reminds me a *LOT*
of the movie background music for Babylon-5 (a TV series
I got way too deep into), written by none other than
Tangerine Dream's Christopher Franke (definitely a
compliement from me!) I like his interesting blending of
orchestral and synthesizer sounds, bombast and
dissonances. You seem to be heading in a similar
direction... any influence there? Faved, 8s across!
ttfn,
Drakonis
Climactic, cinematic, amazing. The instruments all sound
so real! Excellent use of Jampack 4. An epic song fit for an
epic movie. Colossal.
eDrew
Good writing basil81. Definitely sounds like a movie
soundtrack. Varied dynamics tonal changes.
TobinMueller
Very high quality. Great use of JP4. Wonderful choices for
reverb. I liked the percussive section, especially for a
game track, and the way you transition out of it. Excellent
build and use of film score techniques. Very well done.
alley-oop
Mr. Basil 81, This is a great piece of music.
I'm an idiot because when I read 'Game/Soundtrack' my mind says keep moving, keep moving.
I only got here because of your comment at Bizarre's 'needing salt' tune.
Your bio paragraph is the best!. It is VERY funny. It's totally wacked (high compliment)
I, too am carbon-based. I generate audio tones through the vibration of coiled and non-coiled alloy harnessed wires, housed in close proximity to rare earth magnetic fields that convert vibrations into electron pulses. From then on its pretty much the same.
If you ever need crazy guitars or any guitars, PLEASE email (check my dossier, I play a variety of styles)
My expiration date is probably sooner than yours. Unless you get hit by a truck. So be careful.
basil81
Lol! Indeed...
I'm at work right this minute, but I'll make it a point to check out your stuff as soon as I get home tonight, I could always use some real guitar sounds. I'll watch out for that truck too....

Mystified
...use of a 'large' and rich sound for this! I'm really
impressed with how you developed and sustained this
track with such consistency. Very well done!
Great use of percussion in the second half. Wow. I'm just
impressed!
Thank you for posting...and do more!

Excellent use of instruments. For a moment there I thought
this had to be some high end software and not GB/JP4.
Very impressive indeed.
Mr. S
I just felt like I was going to war. This is an incredible,
powerful, moving peace. Some of the most powerful I've
heard on this site.
Mr. S
This is very EPIC like lord of the Rings Type. Your computer
must be kick butt dude cause I can hear so many tracks.. lol
how didn't your computer crash. Its great none the less.. I
dont know why I cant vote anymore but I would give you the
Full 9 in this case.. If you had some more realistic sounding
instruments and ambiences You would be the king of the
Soundtrack section.
Your Writing is what is most important.. Its awesome. Great
Job.
perceptualvortex
Beautiful soundtrack music. The landscapes, battle scenes, establishing shots, close ups are all greatly enhanced by your music. I know I'm going to like this movie.
Tiago_Zontag
Very Good!!
Techie Jessie
Like everyone else said: whoooo, epic! Emotionally
charged in places too. The orchestration is wicked,
specially in the beginning/middle section, and the
percussion that takes over later is really interesting, not
heard-it-all-before.
It definitely works as a "main theme" too, with all the
changes of mood and overlapping themes. And the epic-
ness of course. Plus I just like the main theme tune :)
If you're going to do another version, then I eagerly await
XD I don't think it needs to be longer, personally, though
maybe it could finish with more of a bang? Or not,
whatever the hypothetical movie/game demands...
RickB1
This is the kid of piece I hope to write at some point. I have two
orchestral pieces, both of which are very short. But you have been able
to create a larger vision with this sweeping piece...did you write this
out ahead of time, evelop a theme first, or what? How did you decided
what direction to take after each transition? I loved this!
Love the percussion which accentuates the grand power of this musical
score. A favorite!
basil81
Thank you for your comment RickB1!
The way I went about creating the song was kinda haphazard in a way. None of it was really planned ahead, I simply went with what felt right, and conjured images in my head of cinematic situations which would be appropriate somehow. I've had enough practice since this piece was made to be able to perhaps plan a piece around actual imagery to a degree, but for the most part I play it by ear.
As soon as I'm done writing this comment, I'd like to listen to your pieces as well. I appreciate the feedback very much, thanks again!

RickB1
Basil, is there any chance you would reveal what percussion combos and effects you used to create the dynamic accents for portions of your score? I'd like to acquire a similar sound, but I'm pretty new and can't quite get it. Also, how do you achieve dynamics? I find it difficult with my Keystation to play with one hand while using the wheel on the left to alter dynamics. Is there a way to alter dynamics manually after the part has already been recorded, or am I limited to playing with the track volume at that point? Hope you don't mind my asking. Your stuff has really inspired me to try to write something as grand.
basil81
I'll gladly send you the GB file so you can see for yourself, but be forewarned that the file is immense. If you have iChat I could send it that way, just let me know.
If you wanna e-mail me I'm @ basil.murad@gmail.com.
