I think this has potential &mdash 06/03/05 - 05:41:22 PM
Yeah, I hope so. It's just a start. Figured I'd get my feet wet with posting
here. Recorded it about two months after having gotten reacquainted with
the guitar after a 20+ year hiatus. Been having a lot of fun with it and GB.
Thanks for taking the time to comment/vote.

Smooth classy jam! &mdash 06/07/05 - 04:24:37 PM
Hey,
Nice work!! I see alot of possibilities with this piece. I can't wait to hear the finished product.
P.S. Copyright it before Santana hears it.

Smooth classy jam! &mdash 06/07/05 - 06:54:26 PM
Thanks for listening and the comment/vote. I guess it wasn't half bad if you
caught the Santana influence. He is one of my favorites. Hopefully I haven't
subconciously stolen any of his copyrighted material.

Extra nice lead &mdash 06/08/05 - 09:48:57 PM
guitar playing. At first I liked the tone, but after a while I wanted to hear more frequencies... it sounds thin. Not sure how to describe it, but a fuller sound would have been cool. You ought to post more stuff! --D

Extra nice lead &mdash 06/09/05 - 03:14:52 PM
I agree the tone is a somewhat lacking, and I honestly have had a similar
reaction to it. I like the raw feel the lead has and decided to post it as is, but
I do wish the overall guitar sound was better. I'm working on achieving a
better tone and will try to realize it in the final version. Thanks for the
constructive criticism, and for having taken the time to listen and comment.

Rock out! &mdash 06/11/05 - 11:08:12 PM
I will keep in on rockin. Wish I had a choice, but I don't think I do. Jams with
vocals are in the pipeline. I don't have much of voice but since I don't have
anyone else to sing my tunes I guess I'll have to sing them myself. Thanks
for the kinds words and for taking the time to listen.

Lead with soul &mdash 06/13/05 - 05:04:46 PM
There's a lot of rhythms in the backing part. In addition to
the drums there is a bass line, a right channel elec/
acoustic, and a left channel chorus. I think there is room
for all those parts, but having so much separation is a
little distracting. You might consider finding a tone for the
right channel that is closer to the bass to blend them a
little more smoothly and allowing the left channel to bleed
across the middle a little bit.

I do like the tone on the lead and you squeeze some
interesting and expressive phrases and runs out of it. Just
a little more variation and accents from the drums would
highten all that expression even more. Good stuff! I'd like
to hear the extended version!

Lead with soul &mdash 06/13/05 - 07:28:20 PM
Thanks for the critique. The mix is definitely simplistic. I'll keep your
suggestions in mind when I attempt a final version. In pursuit of the ever
elusive superior tone I just picked up a PODxt Live. Loaded with tone, to say
the least. Hopefully I can coax something compelling out of it for this tune.
Thanks again for taking the time.

Solid electric guitar...... &mdash 07/06/05 - 08:30:24 PM
Hey, really a very classic electric guitar solo in this tune.
You move over those frets quite well. Bring on some
more if you are inclined to. Nice talking to you.

The joy of making music &mdash 07/15/05 - 01:34:57 PM
Its good to hear such joy of making music. It sounds to me like you enjoy this much (as i do too) and it pours out when you play. You should go ahead and give us more to listen to. If I should say something constructive about the piece it would just be to keep in mind that more is more... Simple hook lines can give the listener something to hold on to and will keep the piece together and remember.. breathe in, breathe out;)

Play on:)

The joy of making music &mdash 07/16/05 - 08:32:27 AM
You hit the nail on the head. Was just rediscovering the guitar and encountered
Garageband as well. The combination was an absolute rush to me, a real joy.
Will keep your suggestions in mind for the next go round.

Nice Job &mdash 07/15/05 - 10:07:44 PM
Dug this...very nice effects on the guitar...I use a zoom
also except I now pretty much go clean and use the
effects on Garageband or Logic. A little bit of a rythm
issues but hey good start!

Thanks for the listen and I am working on improving my game. It's a slow go
though.

Two minute warning &mdash 07/15/05 - 10:19:26 PM
Nice little jam. My only suggestion, AQ... is lower the
volume of the panned instruments... the lead should carry
the tune. You could develop this into a monsterous tune!
Cool melody progressions, a few notes could be fixed...
but a great start.

Thanks for the constructive suggestions. It is a simple progression but
something that I find compelling. I will be developing this further in the future.
Thanks for stopping by.

Getting Reacquainted &mdash 07/17/05 - 07:32:10 AM
with your guitar must feel good, this time don't put it
down. To keep recording and posting is the best way to
keep the energy going. You are well on your way.

Workflow? &mdash 10/17/05 - 07:43:00 PM
Your process is messy. Got to be an easier way. What you trying to do?
Why run it through more apps than I have had girlfriends?

I prefer emotion to skill any day, but then that's because I have none of
the second. Love everything but the way it just cuts off.

And that it need words, but that is my bias.

Workflow? &mdash 10/17/05 - 09:07:41 PM
It is rather tortured, isn't it? First, I was trying to unload the CPU (this was done
before GB2 and the track locking feature). Then, with the compression, trying to
make it sound fuller, and set it up to get louder. Audacity can't read the AIFF
file output from GB so I had to export it from QT. Audacity allows me to pump it
up without clipping. I'm sure there's a less painful procedure but I have a
penchant for punishment. I like lyrics too, but my voice is less than appealing.
There'll be a follow up version, hopefully with a better ending and some vocals.
Thanks for the listen and comment, and glad you enjoyed most of it.

The sprinklers have turned on &mdash 11/06/05 - 11:55:19 PM
YOU just played the living bjeezus outta that guitar of yours. It shouldn't be any goog anymore. That was some mighty fine playing. Sure, things were'nt perfect, but you know this by now - However, I can't believe that no one mentioned the pure raging ball of fire that roared here... Your playing was absolutely stunning! It really did take my good breath away... Seriously, that was quite the outrageous showcasing...

Looking forward to more

Dion

Thanks for the kind words. The performance is pure emotion. Hopefully I can
develop some better technique without losing the passion.

Hey big A,
get those chops on the barbie and get cooking.
This is a start, and good to hear you picked up the guitar
again after 20 years. There are some good ideas in here,
so keep rocking and recording the goodies.

Thanks Mr Katchoolick. It has been fun to get back into it. Pity I ever put it
down. Looking forward to PowerTrio's first offering. I'm sure it will not
disappoint.

I am in agreement with many of these comments that say that this is a
great re-introduction to your guitar, and that the obvious course of action
is to keep writing, recording, and posting. Give us all the treat of seeing
you progress. Your desire to play, combined with learning as you go, will
take you a long way.

Give us another one. Give us lots of other ones. I'll be watching...

Sounding Great So Far &mdash 03/19/06 - 02:17:58 PM
I can really get on with a piece of music like this. If I were to develop this I
would make the the bass sound through much fuller...if that makes sense.
Excellent guitar work mind. Finish it please :-)

It's a Cool Thing &mdash 04/15/06 - 03:26:41 PM
I'm very much a believer that emotion is more important than skill but that's not to say anything negative about your moves. I thought the changes were cool and the way you drive them with the lead is happening. Nothing to say about the ending as it's still a draft. The bass was kind of spooky in the soundfield. Dunno if I'd keep it that way. It'll be interesting to hear how this grows.

P.S. I thought the tone of the guitar was very pretty. Is that amped or software?

It's a Cool Thing &mdash 04/15/06 - 08:11:18 PM
No amp, and I guess it's software if the firmware in a Zoom GFX5 counts. Might
have added a little something extra in GB too. I've since moved on to a PODxt
Live. The bass is a bit out there. It's not a real bass, just a pitch shifted guitar.
My daughter always said it didn't quite fit. Thanks for taking the time to listen
and for the critique. Much appreciated.
