Description:
This song is "mostly done", though we have to find some good drums and do something with the ending. We wanted to get this out there for comments as we finalize things...and we've got more songs on the way!

Written by J. Parker
Vocals, rhythm guitar - J. Parker
Lead guitar, bass - J. Grassman

Lyrics:
What's it gonna prove,
wearing out my name all over town?
Such a poor excuse
to go and turn my whole world inside out.

I know you've got me where you want me.
Why can't you just leave me be?
It's killing me the way you haunt me.
Don't understand why you can't see
You've already taken everything I've got.
I'm down on my knees but still you take another shot.
Don't know whether it makes you feel better
knowing everything is lost.
Once again it seems you've gotta win at any cost.

So what's it gonna take
to bring this situation to an end?
An innocent mistake
to think of you as more than just a friend.

I know you've got me where you want me.
Why can't you just leave me be?
It's killing me the way you haunt me.
Don't understand why you can't see

[ solo ]

I know you've got me where you want me.
Why can't you just leave me be?
It's killing me the way you haunt me.
Don't understand why you can't see
You've already taken everything I've got.
I'm down on my knees but still you take another shot.
Don't know whether it makes you feel better
knowing everything is lost.
Once again it seems you've gotta win at any cost.

So what's it gonna be?
Did this all turn out the way you planned?
Now it's just you and me.
Smoke rises from the pistol in my hand...

Wonderful vocals -- you have an excellent voice. The
whole song worked really well for me. I enjoyed it
thoroughly, thank you for posting it.

Yeah, almost done &mdash 06/13/05 - 10:03:01 AM
Joanne's right, the vocals are great. I have a CD by the band
"The Spent Poets" and the singer sounds JUST like this.
Uncanny.

The song would be served with some production values.
Give it a little variety, a little spice and flavor. Some
keyboards? A different snare sound? Some kind of timbral
change-up.

Yeah...agreed it needs "something". The drums are the obvious part...it's the same loop through the whole song. We're looking for something better now. I'll play around with some ideas for a keyboard accent...I think you're right.

Vocals &mdash 06/13/05 - 10:04:05 AM
sound a bit far back in the mix and they have a quality about them that is distracting.

However I didn't mind the sound. Killer guitar solo BTW.

DL/8s!

Thanks for the comment...we'll work on this mix some more as we come down the stretch...possibly too much delay on the vocals at times.

Thanks! Our tunes up to this point haven't been very guitar-heavy, but there are a handful more coming soon.

Top quality vocals and a creative, satisfying chunk of
rock and roll.

Thanks for saying that. Your check's in the mail.

Seriously, though...this song sat half-done for so long that it's just satisfying to get it out into the world.

Yeah...I love the lead guitar he put down for this song. He sent me the file and it was one take from solo to the end of the song. I won't let him change anything on it. And, as usually, his bassline kicks.

Wearing out my name... &mdash 06/16/05 - 08:32:17 AM
... all over town. That's a great opening couplet and sets
up a great rock song. Great hook too. Good song, fine
singing, thanks for that one blamm.

Nice Solo &mdash 06/17/05 - 12:57:54 PM
Nice guitar work. An interesting piece, on the loud side.
From the lyrics, I was hoping for more of a story-telling song, the ending is abrupt.

The vocal is nicely mic'd within the piece.

Solid Rocker &mdash 06/18/05 - 11:09:11 AM
Terrific vocals, as other have indicated. Very good guitar,
rhythm and solo. Really like the solo, but I don't know if
I'd continue it over the subsequent lyrics, at least not for
as long. Might be more effective to apply it a little more
dynamically after the straight solo portion. Just my take
on it though. Very good all around. Looking forward to
hearing the final version.

nice job &mdash 06/26/05 - 12:06:32 PM
this is the best song I've heard on MacJams so far. Very polished overall, the only thing that needs improvement is the drums - very repetitive. Great work though!

good &mdash 06/28/05 - 01:29:58 PM
I like the song. The guitar is a little bit overpowering, but
overall really good.

Channeling Myles Goodwin? &mdash 06/29/05 - 08:49:13 PM
This reminds me of one of my favorite 70's early 80's
bands.... April Wine. Unless you're Canadian (or me) you
tend to forget how good this group was before they got
"popular".

Excellent guitar riffs, smoking lead, smart lyrics and
perfectly executed vocally. Drums don't have enough
variety or punch but you already new that. Can't wait to
hear more guitar driven rock by my favorite band that
doesn't exist :)
