Lyrics
There's a party going on somewhere,
But I'm not invited x2

Suzi sits at home and reads a magazine
With baby Brooklyn on her knee
His daddy's gone the rent is due
Her top-up's empty and her heart is too

(And she's sings)

There's a party going on somewhere,
But I'm not invited x2

Suzi looks at the picture of a young heiress
The one whose video was on the net
This time she wears a Prada dress
And her smile says that she could not care less

(And she sings)

There's a party going on somewhere,
But I'm not invited x2

Another top collab
I love the way each element strolls through the stereo.

The production is really crisp and distinct.

Rebsie's on top form again and I love that celtic harp.

More, you two! More! Encore! More!

If I thought when I joined MJ and listened to the standard of what people like
you do, that anyone would ever call what I did "polished" here I would have
laughed my socks off. So big thanks.

Bless the plumber for leaving a bit of copper pipe behind when he fixed our
boiler. Shame about the bill, though.

Sweet n' sour!
Lovely track...quite poignant in its examination of the way
people covet the lifestyles of celebrities. Rebsie's voice
really creates a nice sense of character on this one. You
can really feel the world weariness in the lyrics. Well done
guys!

Fantastic!
What a wonderfully, moody piece! Wistful, longing vocals,
etherial melodies, and covetous lyrics -- what an amazing
duo you two are. Utterly mesmerizing!

Great song...
You two really make for an excellent duo, and it was cool
to see this modern-folk collab.
Well-crafted lyrics, fab performances.
What more can I say!?
Thank you! :)

Great job you two. Mando you have learned how to get a
good tone out of that guitar. Nice slide! Rebsie you sing
with such feeling that you make the lyrics very believable.
Well Written and sung song.

Very Nice
Kind of a Belle and Sebastian vibe going on here.
Very well done all around.
Who needs parties you're not invited to?

Yeah... but with Rebsie hitting those low notes, I'm not sure which one of us
is Belle. Thanks Mungo.

loverly!
Very nice song. The harp is a brilliant touch.

As far as ways to improve it go, I guess I was hoping for it to pick up steam a little bit because it stayed pretty solidly in the delicate realm, and it's got a great sing-song-y chorus that sort of demands a little more of a groove. It would make the fact that she could not care less be a little more in your face. Maybe all it needs is some cowbell.

Still it is a great song, and I don't mean to quibble too much. I could be way off-base. It wouldn't be the first time for me! Just a thought, that's all...

That refrain....
how haunting. It keeps going on and on in my mind. A great
hook. And even more a great piece of song writing.
Reb, such a restrained and subtle vocal performance. Kudos.

Congrats to you both. I really enjoyed this.

So moving
A friend was telling me the other day about a time when Hemmingway was challenged to tell a story in six words and he came up with "Baby Shoes For Sale: Never used." Your song has such simple lyrics, but there are volumes of implied backstory.

I've been singing the chorus around the house so much that my four year old has started doing it, too.

Love this song to death!

I forgot Rebsie!
I forgot to mention that I thought Rebsie's vocal was one of the most moving parts of this song. It almost sounds as if she were crying right before recording. Just a beautiful, understated vocal that pulled out every implication in the lyrics.

(I hope it's not bad form to comment more than once).

I forgot Rebsie!
Not bad form at all, ledebutant, much appreciated! I do try to empathise
with a song before I record it, so it's good to know I got it right. I try to
avoid crying though ... it wrecks my voice! I wasn't sure what people
would make of the understated vocal on this, so I'm delighted to have
some positive feedback. Thank you so much for your lovely comments.

enjoyed it!
great production and excellent lyrics...paints a great mental picture. My only critique (which is minor) is that the vocals seem a bit behind the music during the chorus bits...more at times than others. But overall, it definitely doesn't dampen my enjoyment of the tune. Great collab, folks!

One of your finest
collaborations. I especially like the Rebsie/Mando vocals,
the harmonies are distinctive. You guys are rapidly
becoming a real duo, like Sonny & Cher, Steve & Edie,
Mitch & Mickey (A Mighty Wind). I have to remind myself
that you are not together, in the same room. Just the
same island.

Very nice. 9-8-9-8

Just checked the graph on this one after seeing its score. It has been horribly
disfigured. Don't quite get it, but then, that's an old, well covered story, right?

The vibe
started by the rhythm guitar and slide sets a laid-back bed for the sad/lonely song. The sparse instrumentation is perfect here. An interesting mix of intruments. I really like the sound! The main Rebsie vocal gives me a sadly resigned feel. Everything fits nicely.

that swish feeling...
so I'm not going to compare Rebsie's vocals to anyone
because she has a phrasing all her own, suffice to say I
wanna hear it every second of the day, i love love the
refrain, it captures the entire feel of the song. the backup
adds such a full feeling, and I must agree you all are
sounding very polished

I'd totally invite you both to my party, any day o' the week.
