Description:
My first song with vocals. Let me know what you think. I plan to use this as #2 on my demo CD.

Lyrics:
(close to)

Bloody Mary

I got to tell you 'bout a girl I met
She was so hot... she was made... of ice
Every guy she met.. was like her pet
She wants to play... never let him dice

Walk behind her... and watch the bloody trail
Check the dead bodies left behind
Count all the knights... who failed
Count the broken hearts left and right

When she's walking to the fridge
all naked.. except of her heels
Can you feel the breeze?
She is so cold... people get the chills

And this slick chick... she's got another hit
She doesn't wait and disappears with him...
he's such a big dick... you know a perfect fit
No doubt, I bet she's doin' him...

Is he gonna make it, with all that bullshit?
He's got no idea, no clue at all
Do you smell that smell and tell, can you tell it?
Get ready guys and get it... it's your last call

Listen up buddy... or it's too late for you
Wait til the morning, there comes the peak
Before you go... slow... you get a shoe
Right in your ass... and that will hurt for a week

CHORUS
It's is the vicious cycle of life...
Chances are.. you. just get sick
Don't ask this question... of life
Or else... you never get the trick

Interesting results as of today, June 21st, 2005:

34 Hits / 1 Comments / 0 Votes
20 Plays / 2 Downloads / 0 Fans

Meaning: Two people found this song good enough to
download and save it. 20 people played it and it got 34 hits,
one comment -- but no voting at all.

I don't know... But this site keeps surprising me.

This is like a gritty neo-"noire" piece. Great delivery of
the lines. The music and effects enhance the story very
nicely. Lot's of interesting little details. I think the vocals
could come up a little in the mix; esthetically they sound
nice in the mix but are a little too low to draw attention to
the actual story being told.

Sometimes good work like this just slips through the
cracks at MJ. The one comment you got before me was
from the guy who got booted from MJ today for using a
second account to bomb songs and give high scores to
himself.

I've seen some strange patterns on occasion here, like a
song once that had no votes or comments, maybe a dozen
hits, and something like 80 downloads. I think MJ has a
poltergeist.

I'm not gonna vote on this one because I'm not sure what
I'd rate it. Some music/art is too hard for me to quantify
like that. It's good though. Anyway, with 0 votes it will
remain in the "Rate Me" box on the left side, where I found
this track and maybe others will, too.

Thanks for the comment, and on the strange patterns occuring on
macjams.com, I agree with most of what you said.

But it hasn't always been that way. I guess it was different when the site was
smaller, with less members, who cared really for what their fellow musicians
did. Now I'm not saying it's a bad thing the site grew and changed. Any
progress has the power to improve something. But now the site is bloated
with people and contributions, and the one problem that comes along with
this is, if people don't vote for songs at all, these songs fall way behind
quickly and are not seen any longer.

Within 24 hours the entire list on the new songs page can be replaced by a
new one, letting the one day old songs disappear, and if they are not rated
high, chances are low for people even looking at them. A song that has had
no voting at all will be at least seen as an exemption and perhaps draw
attention for that reason.

Now I see someone after you had voted for the song. Whoever it was gave it a
below seven, which is okay, but doesn't do justice if I compare it with my
previous contributions. But one can't look at voting this way anyways, it's just
interesting to see how much people are willing to contribute to other peoples
work.

I haven't been voting much myself, I must admit. It's just too many new songs
each day and in my humble opinion, by experience, 90% of them are not
worth listening to (now I'll be officially stoned, tared and feathered). Before
anyone reading this comment is judging me for my statement, please keep in
mind that I'm aware that of course every contribution deserves to be looked
at -- but I as an audience member can still find it boring, retro or simply not
original.

By the way -- I bought a cheap 12$ microphone because I thought my good
one was broken. Turns out the audio port of my 12" Powerbook is broken,
not the microphone. So it only gets a very weak signal for audio in, which
means I can not really record sound through audio in. Also going around
through the USB port doesn't change anything (tried that with a Tascam audio
interface), because it seems the audio card that's broken, or the processing
part for audio in.

Either way, the result was, I had to record the lyrics with an extremely thin
sound signal and then pump it up by duplicating it for multiple times,
exporting, filtering, boosting it with distortion and in the end it had already
this rusty sound it has now.

There's no way I can really sing using this method, but it was the solution for
this particular song, because I already felt it needed such a sound for the
vocals.

I can't repair my Powerbook now. First, I still need it for daily work and I don't
have replacement hardware. Second, I lack the funds...
