Description:
Piano and vocal-These songs were recorded in new mexico and los angeles, both home studios. Livingroom Recordings and on very tiny budgets. This is the first song I wrote on the piano.
Lyrics:
Just like a little girl dreaming away on a rooftop very green
Just like a young boy smiling away in the sunshine no one sees
And just like an old man who shuffles around with his bootlaces
all untied
and they try and they try and they try
and they try and they try and they try
and they try and they try until they die
Just like a mother who drifts away in the moon's light very sad
Just like a father whose left behind him
his children very mad
And just like the children who suffer
and struggle and question
why they're here
And they try and they try and they try
and they try and they try and they try
and they try and they try until they die.
Hardware:
The mixture of processes, be as it may, were not always the best of choices. With each trip into the world of recording we learn what works and what doesn't and how we will shape the sound better for the next journey.

Consumed with Jealousy &mdash 06/22/05 - 09:02:23 PM
Your voice is unbelievably beautiful, evoking Kate Bush and Tori Amos but conveying tremendous emotion, too. The song is a perfect match of voice to lyrics and the piano just sends it over the top into Perfect World.
I hate to just rave on and on, but I wouldn't change a thing about this. I'm about to give my first 10.

Wonderful &mdash 06/23/05 - 12:12:02 AM
What a great find. I love this, how the melody shifts in the
most subtle yet so dramatic ways. You have a great voice
and you deliver the lines with such sincerity. The violins
sound perfect in there. While I like the arrangement I don't
care for the tone of the piano; it sounds too... twangy,
particularly on the hard-hit notes. That's the only critical
thing I can say about this.
So nice to hear your music. Welcome to MacJams. [ Reply to This ]
one more thing &mdash 06/23/05 - 12:24:31 AM
I downloaded your song and found that none of the Artist
info had been filled out on the mp3 file tags. A lot of people
forget to do this. The problem with leaving the info blank is
that when people download it there is nothing to attribute
the music to the artist; it just gets filed in iTunes as "Artist:
Unknown".
You can either set the artist info to automatically be assigned
to your songs in the Garage Band prefs or fill in the info
manually in iTunes. [ Reply to This ]
Serious talent &mdash 06/23/05 - 12:28:25 AM
There's not a darn thing I dislike about this song.
Excellent lyrics. Whatever that sound at the beginning of
the track reminded me of a grandfather clock ticking the
hours away. Love the build up to the ending. This is a
seriously nice piece of music. [ Reply to This ]
Wow &mdash 06/23/05 - 03:22:43 AM
again
you are extremely talented.. Nice to have another female
vocalist on Macjams..
I agree with Pg that the piano sounds a little tinny compared
to the softness of the strings and your voice, but a great
track nonetheless

Lovely &mdash 06/23/05 - 06:13:32 AM
Well constructed, arranged and sung. Beautiful piece.
There is a depth to the vocal that is perfect for this. I
agree with some previous comments about the piano, but
that is fixed easily enough.
Some technical suggestions--posting lyrics helps
tremendously, especially someone like me who is
musically dyslexic and focuses almost completely on the
music instead of words unless I can read along.
Some general info about how you put the song together,
the software, mics, keyboard, etc. is also interesting for
those of us who are trying to do the same thing.
And if you don't put your name on your mp3 pgreenstone
will crab, crab, crab.
Again, Welcome to MacJams. This is a good way to show
up, dove. 9-8-8-9 [ Reply to This ]
Welcome &mdash 06/23/05 - 07:00:44 AM
This is very, very good! I can agree with piano being a little
bit too sharp on the higher tones, but the voice and the
arrangement...woooaaahhh! What comes to my mind is
Portishead for some reason, not musically, but in your voice;
so rich, deep, sincere... The string really help lift it where
needed and adds a softness that works perfectly. D/L. [ Reply to This ]

Beautiful &mdash 06/23/05 - 11:20:38 AM
Beautiful vocals, great arrangement, real emotion.
Although your voice is a completely different tone in
general, certain low notes reminded me of Sinead
O'Connor's sweeping soulful tone. Outstanding. [ Reply to This ]
so cool! &mdash 06/23/05 - 11:43:21 PM
i hear kate bush more than anyone - nice one! there's something about the piano that's not quite right - maybe its the way it was recorded/miced
anyway, a lovely piece - hope to hear lots more from you in the future [ Reply to This ]
wonderful twists & turns &mdash 06/24/05 - 12:03:04 PM
This song has many layers of melodic variety and
expression, and nice change-up of rhythms. All of these
elements keep the interest high in this song.
I must agree with some of the other commenters who
mentioned the piano sound here....it really is a bit too
bright, for my ears anyway. I can see where you were
going with it, providing a punctuation for the emotion of
the lyrics, but it ended up being too much by the song's
end.
This is a great tune, regardless. [ Reply to This ]

Try Try &mdash 06/30/05 - 08:05:38 AM
Beautifully performed, but I couldn't quite get the gist of what it's about...sounds like it's about some trying and dying...pretty depressing stuff...just seemed like a bunch of examples of pathetic people....I think it needs a bridge to explain or give hope...more style than substance...Good though...Leonard Cohen's been doing it for years...lol

helpless quality of childhood returns &mdash 07/01/05 - 07:32:30 AM
when depressed, it is hard to put details together. it is hard to shake sad childhood memories, maybe because you feel helppless, like children often do. you caught it all with this. wished you'd complete the song page better, though, with artwork, lyrics, a more complete description... thank you-- &mdash 07/09/05 - 08:14:09 AM
For all your comments, a hearty thank you and big hug go
out to you-this was the first song I ever wrote. More on
that later---I'm getting lyrics to my friend so she can type
them up. Thank you for listening--jd

Yes, I hear... &mdash 07/19/05 - 05:09:26 PM
...the Kate Bush and Tori Amos connections...
...and in good ways...
But your voice is still your own.
This sounds fresh, melodic, emotive...the piano IS trebly/
metallic on my system, but that is somewhat improved by
the nice solid bass tone underneath...
The songwriting is perfect. It's a little opera. Centerpiece
of a show. Lights go down, single spot irised on the
piano...
This is real good.

JENNY YOU ARE TIMELESS AND BEAUTIFUL &mdash 06/21/06 - 01:05:06 AM
I HAVE BEEN BLESSED BY YOUR FRIENDSHIP EVER SINCE I SAW YOU OUTSIDE MY APARTMENT YEARS AGO WALKING GOLIATH, YOUR STRONG AND HUSKY PIT BULL. HE WAS QUITE A HANDFULL, YET YOU HANDLED HIM WITH FIRMNESS AND CONFIDENCE, AND GRACEFULLNESS AND SOPHISTICATION. I HAD TO KNOW WHO YOU WERE.THIS BEAUTIFUL RED HEAD WITH A FIRM GRIP ON THE END OF A CHAIN LINK LEASH OF A DOG THAT LOOKED LIKE IT COULD USE THE TIRE OF AN S.U.V. AS A TEATHING RING. YET YOU WERE DRESSED AS IF YOU WERE GOING TO A TEA PARTY ON THE YAGHT OFF THE COAST OF HONG KONG, WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL RED-GOLDEN HAIR IN A SOPHISTICATED UP-DO REMINISCENT OF DAYS GONE BY WHEN HOLLYWOOD WAS IN IT'S GLORY DAYS. TALL, ELEGANT AND DEMANDING RECOGNITION THAT YOU WERE SOMEBODY WHO DID NOT JUST BLEND IN. NO, NOT WITH THAT BIG PAPER HAND PAINTED CHINESE SUN UMBRELLA IN ONE HAND, GOLIATH DROOLING AND PANTING IN THE OTHER,A CIGARETTE IN A CIGARETTE HOLDER SOME HOW BALANCED WITH THE CAR KEYS TO YOUR BLUE AND WHITE 1950 LOUD AS HELL COUPE WITH A STICK SHIFT AND ALL THE SAME DRIVING SKILLS REQUIRED AS A TANK DRIVER WOULD NEED TO GET AROUND LA'S CITY STREETS. AS YOU SLIPPED IN THE DRIVER'S SIDE EVER SO CAREFULLY IN YOUR TIGHT, KNEE-LENGTH CHINESE SILK SKIRT AND HIGH HEEL SHOES. UMBRELLA, NOW CLOSED AND IN BACK SEAT- GOLIATH HANGING OUT PASSENGER SIDE GROWLING AT PASSERBYS, YOU STARTED UP BETTY AND WENT OFF TO..............WHERE?..............I HAD NO CLUE. BUT SOMEWHERE THAT YOU ARRIVED WITH A PRESCENSE THAT I AM SURE DEMANDED THE SAME INTRIGUE THAT HAD OVERCOME ME EVERY TIME I SAW YOU COMING AND GOING. YOU HAVE A QUAULITY AND AURA ABOUT YOU THAT IS OF YOU, ONE THATONLY FEW PEOPLE OWN AS THEIR OWN AND MANY PEOPLE IN THIS TOWN TRY TO PORTRAY.FOR YOU IT IS A NATURAL PART OF YOUR BEING. I AM GLAD THAT I FINALLY GOT UP THE NERVE TO SAY A FEW WORDS TO YOU AND OVER TIME YOU AND I HAVE BECOME VERY DEAR FRIENDS FOR LIFE THAT HAVE SEEN SOME PRETTY INCREDIBLE TIMES TOGETHER. JENNY YOU HAVE TAUGHT ME SO MUCH ABOUT MYSELF AND THE REAL THINGS THAT DO MATTER IN LIFE. YOU HAVE THE VOICE OF AN ANGEL ON STERROIDS AND THE PRESCENCE OF WATERFALL THAT ALSO FLOWS INTO A GENTLE RUNNING STREAM. THANK YOU JENNY FOR ALWAYS BEING WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT YOU...............................AND THAT IS...................YOU! LOVE ROBERT [ Reply to This ]
