Description
OK...so this is the "TraceRoot" program. Started out a s a regaae tune, but just couldn;t keep myself from dropping back to the mid 70's for a little funkspiration. It's made up of all GB loops. 9 tracks consisting of a mix of guitar, tweaked organs and layered drums. I tend to mix instruments on any single track which means I may have distorted guitars and distorted drums together. I also switch loops between tracks with different effects which produces a blend that sort of hard to nail down. Sort of the equivelant of kicking in the old boss pedals on stage when playing the guitar. I distorted the Hammond B3 sound, to get it to sound like my old organ did through one of my vintage fender amps. Really happy with the way that came out. I left a couple of cheezy loop riffs in there...just cause I'm not really trying to fool anyone, or hide anything.

Is there a retro soul jive genre?

FYI: I just noticed that this song downloads as "Oh Ya 3"...not "oK2b"...sorry about that. Changed the title after the upload.

"jive" genre
This is pretty darn good for being nothing but loops. Your
choice of sounds works well, and the way you arrange
them is highly listenable. Not boring at all.

I think the "funk" genre is fine. This song reminds me
driving thru the hood on a hot summer day (not much of a
stretch of imagination for me today!). This is great driving
music!

"jive" genre
Thanks Cameron...just trying to get a handle on this whole loop manipulation
concept. I'll have to try it out in the car...see how it drives.

Superfly!
Cool 70's blaxploitation feel to this...nice groove and an
interesting mix of sounds. I like that wah wah sound..or is
it a distorted hammond? Nice track...could make a good
soundtrack.

Superfly!
It's disorted Hammond Wah Wah! Ya! Tried to take it as far as I could before it
went completely apart...like cranked through a 70's tube amp on the stage of
CBGBs!

Is this all loops?
I like this a lot. Nice and funky. The muted scratchy guitar
sound with the hammond is great.

Is this all loops?
All loops...every last sound. Didn;t have anything hooked up to play, but felt the
NEED, so I whipped this out last night. Got up this morning and laughed myself
silly, so thought I'd better post it.

Thanks Z...would sound sweet with some of your handy guitar work on there.

No need...
...to be serious when it get's this funny! Funky, bluesy at a
cheap Bar, 2 pooltables in the dark corner, a few guys, a few
drunk ones, a few girls, early afternoon; it's going to be a
very long night! I want to be there too! Cool piece!

Thanks,

Thanks Mikki...I was laughing when I relived it. Sort of tossed me back to my
funky 70's youth culture...with a little badassed hammond thrown in.

Nice
SGF...thanks! Man, I worked it on that organ. Fingers to the bone...cranked up
through my ol fender twin, or...at least that's what I was dreaming of as I
tweaked them loops. It ain't country, but it ain't bad.

Funk it is...
...yeah, I think it fits fine in the "funk" genre. Nice
arrangement and use of instruments. Maintains interest
throughout. Solos add the right touch. As I always say,
though... would love to hear a change-up, or tempo/key
change. Fine job, Blaine.

Alimar...right you are, I'm going to work on a remix and throw in a tempo
change. That oughta keep me busy enough to avoid work for another day!

Thanks for the input.

Blaine, my man, you got it!!
This is great stuff. I love what you've done to these loops
to get them all in line and make them funk-out.
Nice handling of that Hammond sound, too.

U Got It
You nailed that 70's sound perfectly at times. As a veteran
of those times, I could almost expect Issac Hayes or Curtis
Mayfield to enter the tune at anytime. Good job of
representing a certain style and time.

Better than okB3
Very cool B3 work, great job tweaking them. The track has
personality, whimsy, nice groove, an interesting mix
of influences, and nice pacing. But the overriding virtue:
fun. This could be a demo for how cool GB can be. (What
is TraceRoot?)

Better than okB3
Thanks Tobin. Very happy you found it fun...was deffinitely meant to be!

This is the first thing I have done using loops exclusively, so it was a gas to try
to figure out what can be done with them. Now if I can just figure out how to
mix in some tempo changes!

TraceRoot? a play on techno jibberish and music lingo I suppose ...trace route
being a means to get back to the origin of something in the Cyber world...root
referring to the reggae influence it started with...

Been in this Net business too long I guess.

Hipness for sale
Can't tell its made from loops, which is the first cool thing
about the track. The second and third are all your very nice
slices and riffs, and the effects you use. This is the type of
thing people should teach in music classes (which i do),
shaping sounds as pieces of a puzzle, and you fit them in
just right. Very hip. play this for the students, and they'd all
run out and buy a Mac!

Slice and Dice...got that device at Ronko...$9.95, came with a meatballer. Works
great on GB too...just toss in a track and flip the handle. Ch-Chunk...Ruffled
Riffs!
