Description:
This is just a simple remix with the drum fill sorted out (it makes it smoother). I left the lyrics as they are for now, although I appreciate the fact that the "Stranger in a Strange Land" line is a cliché. Maybe some time in the future this will get a change (along with a more developed instrumental section).
Lyrics:
Copyright © 2005
A friend of mine had wandered
And he wrote a song
All about his travels
And his travels were long
One way or another
Had to make his stand
Now he is a stranger
In a strange land
I’ve seen a lot of things
I’ve heard the pipes of Pan
Felt alpine snow
On a warm hand
Getting down to basics
Knowing where I stand
I have been a stranger
In a strange land
Chorus:
I’ve been flying to the stars
I’ve been howling at the moon
Sleeping rough and dodging cars
This can only end too soon
I’ve seen colours in the sky
Like you would never guess
The northern lights exploded
Oh blood red Marakesh
All the time she’s with me
Driving on the sand
Holding out through winter
Thank god for strange lands
Chorus:
I’ve been flying to the stars
I’ve been howling at the moon
Sleeping rough and dodging cars
This can only end too soon
A friend of mine had wandered
And he wrote a song
All about his travels
And his travels were long
One way or another
Had to make his stand
Now he is a stranger
In a strange land

Good remix &mdash 06/26/05 - 04:00:46 AM
I liked the original version too of course, this sounds very
nice and smooth production wise. Your vocals really
remind me of Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips. The tune
is reminiscent of the great band Grandaddy....let's just say
I really like this style! Excellent.

Thanks Steve,
Glad someone got on after the 2-bomb! It's just a small tweak, but it was
annoying me the way the drum fill sounded before.

I love &mdash 06/26/05 - 02:08:36 PM
acoustic guitar period. I'm gonna start listening soon. Hey
ur vocals definitly grew on me. For some reason this song
reminded me of "Horse With No Name". Pretty good tune
man.

Nice! &mdash 06/27/05 - 01:47:37 AM
This is great! It flows well, I love the double tracking on the vocals and the acoustic guitar. If you worried about the clich, why not make it, "...in a stranger land"? Just a thought.
Well done! [ Reply to This ]
Nice! &mdash 06/30/05 - 12:29:23 AM
Thanks Myshkin,
I think I'm over worrying about "stranger in a strange land" now - it's just that
it's often easier to go for a cliche than write something really snappy yourself!
That's probably why it became a cliche - because it was a good line.
It's definitely something I'll deal with next time one pops up though!
Thanks for taking the time to comment. [ Reply to This ]
Still cool &mdash 06/27/05 - 03:02:59 PM
A really likable song. Great guitar vibe. Singing is just perfect. About being cliche, I think the way it is now, The stranger in a strange land phrase lends an element of immediate familiarity to the song. It's a cool phrase. I seem to like that. All in all cool tune [ Reply to This ]

Not as quiet as Stranger, but I'm happy with it.
Appreciate the support,

Nice Overall Vibe &mdash 06/29/05 - 05:05:22 PM
Pleasant tune. A little John Lennonish which of course is a
great complement. The only criticism I would make is
perhaps it goes on a little long and you could edit out a
verse or two and make it tighter. [ Reply to This ]

Or maybe replace a verse with more guitar - that's what I've been thinking.
