Description:
A song of farewell to a creative cat.
Lyrics:
GOODBYE KITTY
She's leaving New York City
For California skies
She’s ticketed and ready to fly
So say goodbye to the witty kitty
The cat with burnt umber eyes
She’s running around the city
Like a long-legged cheetah
Giving kisses to all her friends
Say goodbye to the witty kitty
Our hearts are broken again
Goodbye Kitty
She's closing down her studio
Goodbye Kitty
Her bags are packed and ready to go
Goodbye Kitty
She's heading for the California coast
Goodbye Kitty
The world’s her scratching post
Say goodbye to Ms. Liberty
and the winters of ice and snow
Say hello to surf and sand
In the Land of the Golden Glow
She's leaving New York City
For California skies
She’s ticketed and ready to fly
So say goodbye to the witty kitty
The cat with burnt umber eyes
So say goodbye to the witty kitty
The cat with burnt umber eyes

You have a unique sound. I thought the music backup was
a bit bright overall, but your voice balanced it out for the
most part. I really like the lyrics. I'd like to think the world
is my scratching post! Very cute. Meow. [ Reply to This ]

From your comments, Emily, I take it you are a "cat person." One of the things I consciously refrained from was overdoing the cat references, to keep the lyrics from becoming too much about that. Of course, if I could purr my words, I would've sung it differently. [ Reply to This ]

This is different, makes me smile. The production and
playing are good. May I ask what the inspiration for this was? [ Reply to This ]

I was freelancing in a CAD Room with someone who was moving from New York to California, and there was a casual suggestion I should pen a song to fit that general situation. When the idea of changing the popular cultural icon "Hello Kitty" to "Goodbye Kitty" jumped into my head, that gave me a direction to go. Words can be funny. The lyrics remained nebulous until I learnt the color of her eyes; for some reason, when she said "burnt umber," everything just fell into place. [ Reply to This ]

You have a unique style &mdash 08/15/05 - 08:29:21 PM
and it's almost unclassifiable. That's definitely a good thing.
I can't think of any single word that would characterize the
song but it was a giggle listening to it. Thanks. [ Reply to This ]

Maybe that's why I have such a hard time trying to decide how to categorize
most of these songs? I put this one in "Rock and Roll" because I wasn't sure
where it should go and the default position became, well, "it's still rock and roll
to me." Anyway, "style" is not something I consciously think about, rather, I try
to create something that's "expressive" (if that makes any sense). [ Reply to This ]
