Description:
This is a song I created using Jam Pack 4 for Garageband. It was created with a sort of thematic movie concept, but without a movie. A lot of people tell me it feels like a military-type, or Gladiator-type, feel to it. I have two other compilations that go with this "concept" movie/game: Freedom Riegns - Main Theme and Freedom Riegns (Reprise). I will post both later, if you like this one... Please, let me know what you think.

I think nowadays &mdash 06/29/05 - 12:21:36 PM
they don't write scenes this long anymore.

This is excellent work, but what I mean is that it develops a bit slowly. Great atmosphere, though.

nice orchestral piece &mdash 06/29/05 - 12:31:45 PM
I am always fascinated by how each person uses the
orchestral sounds in JamPack 4; every one is different.

In this piece, your use of percussion is well-developed
and you combine the brass well with it. Sometimes the
brass levels become too high, especially with the trumpet
stabs, but mostly it is very good.

You have a lot of interesting harmonic and melodic ideas
in this piece. Occasionally the writing is brilliant, when the
combination interesting harmonies with good
orchestration meshes well. I especially liked the middle
section with the full brass, followed by the next section --
nice transition.

I've made the following observation before, especially
about orchestral pieces: It seems that when people start
playing around with JamPack 4, experimenting with
various sounds and then in combination with one another
-- the music just sort of flows from one little idea to the
next, without much of a melody or "theme".

You do have a consistent harmonic structure in certain
places in this composition, which helps pull things
together in a unified way. There are many bits and pieces
here which are very good, but they need to have a
stronger central melodic theme -- not just an overall
gladiator theme.

What often seems to happen in orchestral pieces, which
can have a large variety of sounds, is that the creator of
the music gets so involved in looking at each little pine-
needle on the branch, that it's hard to see the whole tree.

I know that I certainly have this tendency, and often have
to go back and edit out those sections of music which
aren't really in the musical theme -- that central idea.

There is a lot of potential in this piece; you've combined
these sounds well and with imagination. Just keep on
working on editing, and focusing in on more of a central
musical idea.

This piece could also easily fit into the Classical genre,
because of its orchestral nature. To my mind at least,
"Game/Soundtrack" implies the use of more synthesized
instruments.

WOW &mdash 09/08/05 - 03:03:39 PM
That's really good. I wish I could do something like that.
To me this music seems like it belongs in some big 3D
animated RPG game during one of the cut-scenes.

You know what I like to do for fun, and I bet you would
like do this too, is to find a slab of video from a game or
whatever and to totally rewrite the music. Then
afterwards, it's even more fun if you can hack the game
and get your music into there.

If I can figure out how replace music in Halo or Halo 2, I
think I may be in for a good time. If I figure this out, I will
be sure to tell you all. Maybe we can replace all the music
in some game and call it the MacJams version! We may
have to get some people from OCRemix in on that too.

If anyone is especially interested, tell me so I can get
crackin' on this.
