Wonder Guitar Work!
Bill, thanks for letting me add the bass line. The correct bass line for this piece was one that did not get in the way of the nice guitar lines, but filled out the botttom. That was my goal, so while the title indicates this verion features bass, the bass was truly intended to supplement and, by highlighting the chord structure, actually embellish the guitar parts, which I believe was achieved. I recommend listening through head phones to hear the nice sound Bill and I were able to get out of GB2. I used a pre-Ernie Ball (ie, Fender) MusicMan Sting Ray and played it through a chorus effect. I hope you enjoy this version of a magnificent piece by Bill "The Tiler" Furner. All the best, Drew.

Excellent work, Drew
and Tiler too. I love the bass. Perfect for this piece. Not
overpowering or heavy, but adds a weight that is lovely.
Beautiful collab. Beautiful piece (as you know, BIll, this is
one of my favorites of yours).

My only beef...
...is that I want a little more bass in the mix. The notes are
well chosen and don't/won't get in the way of the
acoustic...I'd love a few more db of bass in the mix.

Pretty dagnabbed downloadable as is, of course, but if
there's a second mix down the road, a little more of that
bass would go down nicely!

I hear ya. I listened to Bill's mix (the posted one here) through head phones and it sounds great. I listened through my computer speakers, and I can't hear the bass really. I listened through my Bose clock stereo and again it sounds great. It seems so damn hard to find the right mix these days with the massive variety in speaker output, but all things considered, i always enjoy a bit more bass volume.

I just bought some expensive ear phones and your bass really comes out in it.
With the $140 Sony Pro ear phones your bass seems so pleasant to hear. I
mean to me I am really glad that we did this. I really didn't realize how cool a
bass could be with a tune like this. If I mixed it too loud it would loose that
romantic feeling that the guy and gal had for each other on their way out
west.
I so much wanted to strive for that effect in this tune, and I think we captured
it here. I can really understand about the difference between inexpensive
speakers and more pro ones.

When I went to my local music store and bought these Sony's. I couldn't
believe the difference in the lack of bass between the cheaper headsets he
had me try on than the one I am wearing right now listening to your
wonderful bass line in this tune!

If you guys get a chance, I think a good point of reference recording for this sort
of thing might be the Allman Brothers recording of Little Martha that made it
onto the Dreams box set, where they restored Barry Oakley's bass line to the two
acoustic guitars. Listen to that with good headphones...

While we're on THAT subject, I am listening to this on some pretty good ones,
meself...
