Description
A very rootsy piece with dub elements.

For the record, I have recorded probably several hundred songs over the past 17 years, and this song here is only the third I have ever put lyrics to.

Also for the record, this is the only song where I did a track of me whistling (pathetically out of tune, but there nonetheless).

If you like this one, I'd recommend stopping by www.download.com/naturalroots where I have a page of all acoustic reggae. Imagine -- reggae without any keyboards!

I think...
...."some see the world in black and white" and "the world
is a rainbow" lines are repeated a bit too much...however,
i think you have some good lyrics here and i really like the
vibe of the song. Really enjoyed that funky reggae music
and i think when the synthy keyboard comes in, it adds
some variety to the melody. You have some nice deep
vocals going on there...would have liked to hear a bit
more of them towards the end of the song. Overall, i
enjoyed listening to this. Good job :-)

I think...
Thanks for the comments about the lyrics. Like I said, I'm pretty new at the whole lyrics thing so I appreciate any feedback.

With this song the lyrics just came out in this repetitive, chant-like fashion. I think maybe I was channeling Burning Spear - or at least immitating him, as this is his basic style of singing.

Very cool. You don't hear much reggae without keyboards
but you don't need it. Liked the guitar work.

Lyrics were a bit repetative, but Marley repeated the first
verse of "No Woman No Cry" twice. Something to be said
for being repetative. Like to see what you've got written
down posted. Sounded pretty good. You can always
expand it latter.

Thanks for your comments. From what you wrote, it seems like you stopped by my "Natural Roots" page on Download.com.

I've been posting music on the internet since 2000 and "Natural Roots" has been my most successful effort to day, getting anywhere from 1000-2000 downloads a week. I think it reflects that people want to hear some reggae that isn't totoally processed, the way most reggae that comes out of Jamaica seems to be these days. It's a little ironic that as reggae bands rail against "Babylon" they use all the technology that comes with it. Sometimes its good to get back to the roots of the music, which is real people playing real instruments.

I've been recording music since I was 15. Here are some of my latest creations using GarageBand. In the early days I just recorded rhythm guitar tracks on a tape and played that back into another tape player with a lead track, or maybe bass. Eve... [see more]
