Love the 7/4. I like the 3-then-4 feel. All holds together
well. Thanks for the warning honks. As for 'dodecatonic,'
don't use foul language in your song descriptions.

Tom, thanks I'm glad you like this! Sorry about the foul language, just
trying to eschew the quotidian.

Like the car sounds like stuck in traffic . . &mdash 07/17/05 - 11:56:35 AM
Sounds like maybe a culture shock when we get so much
traffic that well have to have highways in the air. Out of sheer
demand. At least this is what your tune made me think.

The traffic cops will have to tie balloons on their back belts
in order to float that high :)

Cool, lots of nice stuff in there.

Really nice beats you got going here and great creative
sounds (love the car horn!). The drums are really
cool...might have to invest in Drums on Demand myself!

(just using a bit of So. Calif lingo there... the traffic sound
effects made me do it!)
I agree, the time sig on this does the trick of keeping my
ears on their toes...in a manner of speaking.

Great track, PV! I enjoyed this!

Ear toes &mdash 07/17/05 - 08:16:39 PM
Of course you're curious, Tom; you're a former newsman. But I'm not so sure
this is the appropriate place for such a discussion. Maybe the forums?

Ear toes &mdash 07/17/05 - 08:25:27 PM
I'm thinking. Is anyplace appropriate for you and me to discuss this
sensitive subject? We may have gone too far already...

(PV, don't mind us. You and your little 7/4 song go run and play.)

Ear toes &mdash 07/17/05 - 08:37:02 PM
Oh, by all means discuss ear toes right here. My feet don't hear a thing.
And hey! Don't belittle my stomping monster of a 7 tune, stepping on your
living room like a War of the Worlds tripod! My songs and I play by subtly
reprogramming your brain, Mr. 1956... if that is your real name...

Ear toes &mdash 07/17/05 - 09:18:01 PM
It's not his real name. My sources tell me otherwise, but then, you know these
former news guys... The ear toes question is just a ruse. He's looking for
inside information. And if I were you, I'd not mention "War of the Worlds" too
loudly....Remember Roswell!

Honk, honk! Did you play in traffic as a kid? Do you
play in traffic now? Hopefully not you might not get
to post a follow-up to this. Nice to finally hear one of
your tracks after conversing with you so much. This
is like a cross between prog rock, dance music and
math rock, and it works! Great stuff! Now I just need
to go back and listen to some of your older stuff.
What did you recommend again?

But it's a high speed traffic jam! I'm glad you enjoyed this, Ep! Thanks for
giving my stuff a listen with comments. Now it's time for you to post
something new! If you like, give a listen to "Emergency" and "Fractal
Resonance" and lemme know what you think.

If you hadn't told &mdash 07/20/05 - 10:39:58 AM
I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't have noticed the time
signature. As long you don't emphatically bang some cymbal
on every 1 it is quite possible to make a flowing rhythm in
any time signature. (Ok, I tried it with 13, and that's a bit
tough.)

[ Reply to This ]
If you hadn't told &mdash 07/20/05 - 12:47:29 PM
You make a good point, Vic. Don't tell anyone, but I spilled the beans about the meter because I thought that would entice more listeners. I was in a band--'Beyond Repair' (I play drums)--that had a very nice, flowing section of one song that was in 11. As for 13, I think the last section of Rush's "Jacob's Ladder" is a fairly smooth 13. Thanks for listening and commenting!

Don't know how you squeezed this one out of the plastic box and I too am trying to close my mouth, but I'll need to head to the floor for my bottom lip...

This is unusual, but in a good way... very intriguing rhythm...
leave it to a drummer to try 7/4 time! Great bass & rhythm,
and wild effects, very effect-ive! Left me out of breath,
definitely gets a sense of "Future Shock" across! I'll stay in
this age please! :-) Very complex writing, I'm impressed!

Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash &mdash 11/18/05 - 03:41:48 PM
Wish I had Five Extra Legs so I could dance in unison with this energetic
and colorful production. Then I wouldn't look as stupid as I do right now
waving my arms around like an injured octopus. No, in fact I'd look like
the lady walking her dog in the Futurist painting by Giacomo Balla. Are
you a Futurist composer? You'd certainly be the model for how one should
approach such an interpenetration of movement and speed and machine
age imagery. I'm floored. It would be thematically ok to give you straight
7's, but this ranks far above that. Can't wait to hear this again. How 'bout
a nice round of applause (in an impossible time signature that defies
math) for this gentleman!

Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash &mdash 11/18/05 - 03:53:51 PM
Heheh, hey, thanks for noticing! Yes, I am in fact a futurist composer, which is why my songs are always leaving behind strobed trails. Listen to my upcoming prog rock piece that features clapping in syncopated quintuplets and 17 vs 31 polyrhythms. It may take some years to finish, but... ...thanks for listening and commenting five_extra, I'm glad you dig this piece!

Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash &mdash 11/22/05 - 07:46:17 PM
I hope you're not pulling my extra leg about being a futurist. There's something
truly magical about this composition that I can't put my finger on. Clapping in
syncopated quintuplets and 17 vs 31 polyrhythms....? Hasn't that been done like
a thousand times already? Do we need one more? You are one gifted noise
maker strategically placed just in the right spot of an unsupervised echo
chamber. Now I can go back to my pathetic 2 dimensional life and try to create
another ridiculous robot love song to reassure myself that there is no room for
math in my world. In the polyrhytmic words of one Dee Dee Ramone, "One, Two,
Three, Four!" God bless you, Mr. P. Vortex. You are a superstar.

Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash &mdash 11/22/05 - 11:51:43 PM
Not at all; I don't really label myself futurist, but I certainly identify with the
futurist movement and I often do tap into an aesthetic that's driving and
machinelike (Nanobot Swarm is like that too). You may be right; it's
probably best to avoid the more cliched polyrhythms. Thanks for your kind
words, five_extra!

drums, as well as all those years of listening to Rush :) Thanks for the
