Play it twice

Description
Played the bass and guitar line on the mouse (!?) using the virtual keyboard as I still have no interface. Rest is loops. Put the bass right in the edit screen but just took the real howlers out of the lead stuff. Bit hard to get a "performance" but as long as it's in C just go nuts, I thought. The lead guitar sound is a bit like Zappa so that's great but as far as the notes go it's a case of " Play it twice and call it Jazz"....

Reminds me of..
This reminds me of something that I've heard on Emeril Live, with Doc Gibbs band. Something with the drums seemed out of place though. Pretty good jazz song. Maybe though add in some different percussion instruments to really give it a nicer sound.

Don't know the track you mention but thanks for the comment. I am a big
Zappa fan and I kind of like his quirky approach. I think that's why I went with
those drums. I originally thought more of a relaxed ride or maybe even a
brushes type feel but that was just too MOR. The final bar of the drum loop
doesn't quite work but it was the best that I could find and at least gives it a a
bit of variation. I like the way the percussion drops out for the solo. Just gives
it a meaner feel. Zappa's solo's always had that kind of "grrrr" feeling and,
even though I tried to give it enough melody to keep soome interest, it's
those growling low notes that did it for me.
Thanks very much for writing. You are my first comment so I'm sorry that I
have rambled on a bit, it's just so cool to hear from someone!!

I like the blended sines. I sympathize with the no-
keyboard plight. You did VERY well with limited means!

Thank you kindly. Don't know if you ever got them in the states but when I
was growing up a few kids had these bizarre pen operated keyboards called
"Stylophones". They made a strange "Telstar" (remember the old Joe Meek/
Tornadoes track?) kind of a noise as long as you held the pen on the
keyboard and just slid it around.... A mate of mine had one. I knew it would
pay off one day....

Excellent start
Love the mix of distortion and synth on your guitar and
the way it works into the rest. I could've used a new
chord, perhaps a song structure, but this is top notch.
Please consider developing it into a song with variations
and chord changes and such. Maybe cut and paste
playing in C and then transpose (certain tracks)? With
more variations, this is an 8-10 concept.

Excellent start
Thank you very much. The whole structure here is completely based on loops
and I'm ashamed to say that I didn't even work out what the chords were so
I'll really have to give this a bit of thought. I'm really getting into a bit more
jazz at the moment so this could well be my next project.

Thanks for the ideas. I'd really forgotten about this one...

chordless
unplugged from progressions. as a guy who teaches music, i would say not knowing is sometimes the best way to hear where you want to go. if you have the ear for it. and you do. an excellent tune. oh oh more more...

Diamonds all around
What an unexpected gem. I'm glad I followed Tobin's favorites into this spcae, because this track is wonderful. Wow. The only problem... it was too short!

Blow your mind
...and mine too. Like music through a gin and tonic. Perfect and cool and slightly twisted. With a lime. Nice surprises, nice taste.

That's strange
Huh... how come I don't remember listening to this one?
Anyway, great guitar as usual. You have some REALLY
crazy talent on that thing. Seriously. You're playing style
reminds me so much of electric John McLaughlin... when
he played with Miles Davis and the whole gang. Ever heard
of the Album (mix) Panthalassa? To me, it really is the
most enjoyable Miles Davis compilation to listen to. Your
guitar, in this song in particular, is very reminiscent of
that CD. Anycruds, good job. See you round.

kindly kind,
mister fosod.

That's strange
John Mclaughlin? *gulp*! The only bits I know of his are the Mahavishnu and
the Shakti stuff and they are just terrifyingly technical. Be good to hear him
with Miles, his stuff is usually more listenable, I'll have to see if I can get a
copy. Whatever, thanks for the comment. You do know that there isn't any
real guitar in this? and I just whizzed the mouse over the virtual keyboard in a
semi random manner? Which is why I called it Play it Twice (and call it Jazz.
Which is what muso's say over here when they hit a bum note)

I feel a bit of a fraud somehow....

Ah WTF I'm just pleased you liked it. Ta very much.

A bientot.

Smooth jazz rock?
You programmed that guitar? Not bad at all.

But for your next track put the bass a bit more in the
center.

amazing what you guys can do with loops
I have to delve more into loops and see what the power of
loops can do.
Thanks for the good example!

I remember Telstar ... as, as an artifiact. Not like I was
around at the time. :)

OK, I was on the planet, but I was < 1.
