Description:
Was inspired by a CD I was listening to that I got when in New Orleans (thus the name "Lousiana Bayou"). Have been wanting to do something with a horn section. This is where it ended up. Not sure if it's Folk Rock, Jazz or something else.

Enjoy! Comments and feedback are welcome and appreciated!

tell me more about how you did it... are you playing guitar
on this track, is this all loops? either way, i like the feel of
this, especially when the horns come in. quite catchy. good
work.

great groove &mdash 07/22/05 - 05:09:53 AM
The drums and bass were both written from scratch as software instruments,
though I played with the bass lines on an Ernie Ball Sterling first. The 6-sting
electric guitar started as GB2 loops, but I made a variety of edits and
modifications in GB2. The horns are 100% unaltered GB2 loops. The rest is a
trade secret and I'll have to kill you. Thanks for the interest. Throw me a vote.

Sounds like jazzy/funky rock to me… &mdash 07/22/05 - 05:33:37 PM
… but not folk, definitely not folk. Move this out of
the folk rock genre immediately as it can only do you
harm in the ratings. Other than that, it's pretty good
stuff. It's definitely catchy. How much of this is loops?
And much of it is you playing? I'd be interested to
know. It could do with some James Brown-style
vocals too.

Thanks for the tip on moving it. Calling it Jazz (for now) until I figure out where
it actually belongs. As far as loops versus actual performing see my reply to
"Great Groove" by ScooterDMan. Lastly, if you wanna add some JB vocals to it, go
right ahead! Thanks!

Please do. That's the one thing you'll likely never hear in anything I do (because I
can't sing to save my life). Would welcome any vocal effort and be happy to
collab on it!

I'm gonna give it a go… not sure how it will come out – white academic
Brit tries to do Godfather of Soul – but I'll give it a go

Thanks for your confidence in me. Just to say that's there's been a delay
to me recording my vocals due to me coming down with a bad cold but
once I'm better I gonna give it a go. Ow! ;-)

Great Groove &mdash 07/25/05 - 07:48:23 AM
Seems more funk to me than Jazz, but does have that New Orleans/Harry Connick Jr. fusion/jazz/swing -- bass really shines, as does the quacky-funky guitar. I recognize the horn loop, but you do a great job of integrating into the song, so for those unfamiliar with the GB loops would never know they weren't "real." Like how the horns end it by themselves. Overall, very cool!!!

Thanks comp. Glad you like the bass as that's the piece I did write. Appreciate
the feedback!

I wish I could do this... &mdash 07/25/05 - 08:08:18 PM
...and I wish I COULD add the James Brown, or even, heck,
Robert Plant vocals that this could need...

On my system, the only part that mars the pure funk and
pleasure is the triangle...Might be my tweeters, of course,
but it's a little shrill and omnipresent...

Gosh, though, I love the guitar, the drums, and that bass is
AWESOME.

Bass is definitely my favorite part, too. Of course, I might be biased because I
actually wrote that part. Thanks for the feedback.

this is in a fun-key &mdash 08/02/05 - 10:34:14 AM
Bouncy! This was fun, and although I did recognize the
horn loops, you did a great job in altering drums & guitar,
and yes, the bass-line was great. The instruments were
well separated, although the triangle-in-the-right-ear
was a little distracting in headphones. This is *good*
funk! Just wanted to swing this comment bayou!

thanks for the comment. one of the best parts of MJ. triangle is a bit loud and
will be brought down a bit in the next version. thanks again!

glad you like it. am working with Epileptic Gibbon on a piece with vocals. One is
already available and the other (which you already got a premature glimpse of) is
coming with a hunk of editing and tweaking.
