The Welcome Song

Description
In the previous post I promised to post the ukulele duet recording by my son Felix (8), and me (53). We made it better today and now, here it is.

It is a theme made by Felix. You can hear him playing his theme from start and thereafter he plays the comp ukulele all the way through the tune. I do melody. It is recorded live like this by the two of us.

I asked Felix for a name for the tune and he replied ”Välkommensången”; The Welcome Song.

Like Father, Like Son
I'm having a hard time believing the rhythm uke is being
played by an 8-year-old. But knowing you to be an honest
musician, Curry, I guess I have to believe it. What rhythmic
talent!. The minimalist effect is almost hypnotic, as if you
had given Steve Reich a ukelele, and asked him to write a
duet with Ry Cooder.

Such a joyful piece and photo. What's next - a family
quartet?????

Where's the Luau?!
Aloha!!
I love that this is called "The Welcome Song" ...which is so
appropriately part of the "Aloha spirit."

What a charming song you two have created with these
ukuleles. I can't help but feel like I'm back visiting the
Hawaiian islands...courtesy of two very talented Swedes!

Tack!

I needed that
What a nice, pleasant sound, those ukes and that happy,
simple melody. Your son plays very nicely. I'm impressed.
It must be great to share music making with him like that. I
really enjoyed this, and not just because of the kid factor.
It's refreshing music.

This brought a smile to my face :)

I'm So Happy right now
This song makes me want to sit by the ocean, greeting
people continuously, just meeting an entire string of new
people, one pleasant face after the other. Very well done,
the vibe this track gives off transcends anything mundane
or day to day, it is for lack of words, 'welcoming.'

Nothing terribly constructive, just awesome.

really cool
I am trying to get my son maurice (7) to play uke, but all
he wants to play is the melody to Twinkle Twinkle Little
Star, and no chords... I will play him this for inspiration.
It's really cool, and the comping has a sort of neat cuban
sort of rhythm going on. Very cool!

That's it...
....First off, I'm posting MY son's songs. It is plain to me
that to be hip around this place you need a 7-or-8-year-
old to help you along, and I happen to have one...Have to
wonder why I've been handicapping myself thus
far...Stubborn pride, I shouldn't wonder....

Second, this is a lovely tune, and I suspect and hope that
father and son will be playing it together at picnics and
family gatherings forever...

Thirdly, I'm moving to Sweden...

Nice job, you two!

Ed

P.S. atwood mentions Steve Reich...I go straight to
Penguin Cafe Orchestra with this one...CD ready!!

Father/Son Special Song
This is in a place all its own. Just seeing both of your
faces in that picture and listening to you play your
ukes. Now that brightens my day! You son is already
playing very well... and only eight years old. Pretty
soon I will have to go out and get a ukulele too : )

Lovely!
Once again I'm astonished at how good those ukes can
sound in skilled hands. This is great and a wonderful
MacJams debut for Felix.
