Description:
this was the second song i recorded when i first got GarageBand and the first song i uploaded to MacJams. This new mix takes advantage of some recent GB feature additions and my furthured familiarity with the software.
Lyrics:
Another sun comes up another day begins
my heart is racing - my mind is sore within
what does it matter? gotta get up and do it all again
HOW I'D LOVE TO
two love unending love; an image seen by some
to love an image love imagination
love the unlovely and see love in everyone
HOW I'D LOVE TO
like a dream i view reality and realize
all the lies i thought i'd never see
baby i can't wait to pick the locks to your tailgate
although i pay the fare i never get there - i never seem to get there
how i'd love to
let the anger die, laugh more than i cry
how i'd love to
know the answers why before the questions arise
how i'd love to
look into your eyes and never have to say good-bye
how i'd love to
how i'd love to
i used to love the days i thought my world would never end
when violence was just a game we played and freedom was a friend
and close by was always a hand onto depend
HOW I'D LOVE TO
now my freedom has turned to fantasy
inward toil tears out and soils my fantastic sick sobriety
but can i stop to think about anyone but me?
how i'd love to

How I love your music &mdash 07/26/05 - 07:00:54 AM
You push pop music to the limits I think pop music should
almost always go, into totally cool experiences full of
invention and excitement, wit and talent, yet never leave
the realm of mainstream, a masterful ability. This episodic
"shish-kabob" music is one of my favorite styles, pulling
me from place to place without transitions with ease and
power, keeping me always excited to hear what is coming
around the corner, creating specific musical frameworks
for each stanza and each lyric. A great song, great
arrangement. You do push the level limit on my speakers
with this (how do you do it without distorting?) and it
sounds almost a tad harsh, but I figure that's the mp3
talking, not the mix. SUCH A GREAT TRACK! [ Reply to This ]

thanks for your time and thoughts. after reading so many of your great
comments all over MacJams, i wish i could listen to music through your ears
just once. somehow i imagine it to be like in the wizard of oz when the
technicolour part kicks in.
regarding the levels - i am pushing it pretty hard. I'm experimenting with
different mastering techniques. I was listening to random tunes on my iPod
and Smooth by Santana came on and it's like 3 times as loud as any other
song. so i got to wondering how they do that. thought this song was
appropriate to try red lining. the mix is kind of on the harsh side i agree - i'm
still tweaking.

Slickness &mdash 07/26/05 - 01:42:58 PM
This is a well made song... very radio-friendly, yes.
I'm not sure why, but the pace seems a bit sluggish
in the verses, but the chorus is great. I love that
guitar solo and some of the sonic touches
throughout, like the bells in the fade out ending. [ Reply to This ]
Yikes! &mdash 07/26/05 - 02:28:52 PM
You're so damn good when you rawk Mr. Eyes.
Is that Thomas Dolby on vocals? Uncanny resembalance.
Intentional?
Killer hook in the chorus. Makes me bounce around the
room.
i love your little "Phil Spector" gags like the gamelon that
wafts in and out, or the phasing on the vocals. I'd drop
the freeze-dried distorto drum breaks that occasionally
raise their ugly heads, but that's just me.
I'm hearing the same threshold of distortion that Tobin is.
I LIKE it that way. [ Reply to This ]

the thomas dolby thing is completely unintentional.

you are a BAD man....this toon is rockin!!! I've been
messing with creating hard rock tones recording in gb....I
find it difficult indeed...but your sound(s) are rich and fat!
great rhythm track as well. Vocals are spot on!
You have my total respect....wouldn't a collaboration be
interesting?
This is an outrageously good track! Congratulations [ Reply to This ]
WOW!! &mdash 07/26/05 - 06:07:12 PM
What more can I say? That's probably the best rock tune I've
heard here, and might ever hear here (?). Very creative,
super dynamic. Really fine job all the way around. I'm
curious, would you share how many hours it took to put this
together: writing, playing, producing? [ Reply to This ]
WOW!! &mdash 07/28/05 - 05:17:00 PM
Thanks for the kind words.
how long did it take?
well, i wrote the song 10 or so years ago. then revisited it once i got GB. I
probably spent 14 hours on my first GB version of this.the remix took about 4
hours.
so the answer to your qestion is: 10 years 18 hours. --- This is YOUR life and YOU do what YOU want to do.

Seriously good stuff &mdash 07/27/05 - 09:37:35 AM
This is wonderful sounding stuff, and very creatively
arranged and produced.
Eh, the "how I'd love to" chorus is disappointingly pedestrian
with that choppy eigth notes guitar going on line after line. I
would have done something different with every other line.
Oh, your mastering skills seem to be a-ok too. This has lots
of energy. [ Reply to This ]

Bloody brilliant! &mdash 07/28/05 - 04:28:50 AM
Bugger!
Not much to add really - please don't post any more this
bloody brilliant - a person could get quite demoralised!
Love the bass sound towards the end - reminds me of
Yes. Love the vox, ditto guitars, keys, production,
arrangement, lyrics. Would love to hear the aiff version.
Raised the bar again MJers!
Yeh OK, lots of points DL etc etc etc! [ Reply to This ]

that chorus. It's just so cool. As is the whole song.
You pack so much into this song. Every section is
fresh and and the song just keeps coming as I listen.
Add my kudos to the man from Chicagooski.

How do you do this? &mdash 07/29/05 - 07:27:56 PM
Warning.... I'm gonna gush over this song. Freaking
awesome. Yeah the power chords are good, the bass line
kicks total ass but for me, a singer at the core, it's the
vocals that get me. Perfectly delivered with the right level
of angst and poetic expression. So the question now is"
Who would I compare this to? Answer: Jean Beauvoir....
huh, you all say. Here's a clue- he ain't really french.
This is also the best use of in a song of the phrase
"fantastic sick sobriety". [ Reply to This ]

this is stupendous sounding stuff.
great job all the way around.
eclectic, rockin', heavy hittin' and melodic.
great production quality.
this doesn't really sound like anyone or anything else

are you familiar with SELF? maybe i'm hearing some of
that.

I aspire &mdash 07/30/05 - 09:26:16 PM
To write, let alone produce a fantastic arrangement such
as this, If you are listening around randomly in, oh... let's
say 10 years, look up one of my songs. Maybe I will have
something as good to listen to by then. My only concern is
the overall cosistancy of volume... but thats me at this
point in time. I like a variety of ups and downs... with
surprize breaks and twists and shit. Please don't be
offended, this is a masterpiece! Thank you. [ Reply to This ]
Postscript... &mdash 07/30/05 - 09:29:13 PM

fantastic lyrics... strong, confident and, well..good vocals.
The style of this song reminds me a little of the red hot
chillies. Definately a radio number. Lots of energy an
passion. Nice one eleven eyes! [ Reply to This ]
I can't stop... &mdash 07/31/05 - 01:56:00 PM
...listening! I swear, I've listened to this about thirty times
and it gets better every time. Love your vocals/harmonies.
There is that slight overload distortion but it's negligible. I'm
not going to let it distract me one bit durring my next thirty
listens :) [ Reply to This ]
Can you say, Limp Bizkit? &mdash 07/31/05 - 04:14:09 PM
I like it because L.B. is no more, at least I never hear of them anymore. You have a future filling that niche, now all you have to do is get Wes to play guitar for you!
All kidding aside, it really sounds like L.B. but thats cool too! [ Reply to This ]
WOW!!! &mdash 07/31/05 - 08:38:16 PM

love. This song is one of the best produced that I have heard
here on MacJams. I will check out more of your work. [ Reply to This ]
Good to have you back posting stuff &mdash 08/25/05 - 04:59:09 PM
I have not so far given straight tens on MacJams and I
still haven't with this but I'll admit that this is truly
the sort of thing on the site that actually very nearly
deserves that kind of ridiculous mark. I mean so
many people gush on MacJams, giving out 10s
seemingly willy, if not nilly, but this is about the best
thing I've heard on MacJams since I gave Fairy Beth's
last song straight nines and 'How I'd Love 2.0' may be
slightly better still (sorry, FB). The production sounds
great, though on this speaker it's difficult to tell for
sure, but the performance rocks. The songwriting is
assured, imaginative, classy. Originality is rare, on
MacJams or elsewhere, but this kept me guessing and
interested throughout. For the genre, possibly the
best thing I've heard in a while… how the Foo
Fighters, the RHCP or half a dozen other bands would
love to have a song as good as this on their next
album. You definitely RAWK, Mr Eyes. Sorted. [ Reply to This ]

Christ &mdash 12/31/05 - 06:36:49 PM
This is EXACTLY the type of rock that lured me to the genre as a child. It's
been a good, long time since I've heard something of this magnitude
ANYWHERE, nevertheless on the internet. My one and only con about this
entire project is the vocal quality. Not at all bad, but could be a little
better with a condenser mic perhaps.
Being new here, I can't vote on this song, but how I'd love to. [ Reply to This ]
i'm feeling this &mdash 02/18/06 - 03:09:14 PM
I'm really feeling this beat. This beat is blazin'. I like the song too but this beat this just too hot to ignore. I think this is one of the hottest beats i heard today. Keep banging this hottness. Theres a lot of energy in this beat. This is it. [ Reply to This ]
