Description:
Me and a weird dream I had about a woman I loved nearly a decade ago. Someday I will move on. The meows are my cat Muffet.

Lyrics:
The children stepped off the riverbank,
hand in hand,
and we watched them drown.
And she screamed at me to save them.
And we watched them drown.
And you never get a second chance!
And yet, again…
The children stepped off the riverbank,
hand in hand,
and I rushed forward to save them.
And she begged me not to and said
I would drown.
And I stepped into dark cold water,
and knew she was right,
could not breathe,
could see nothing,
could hear neither screams or pleas,
was alone without children or lover
to hold me back or urge me on,
certain only of the death I’d witnessed,
hoping muddy waters would reclaim me,
hoping no one was to save me,
regreting we did not go forth,
hand in hand.

I woke alone.

That's weird &mdash 07/26/05 - 12:43:35 PM
Quite an unnerving soundtrack. Your voice sounds a lot
like the 2005 Willie Wonka (Johnny Depp) - "the world's
most unusual candy maker". The cat sounds like a
distressed child caught in the laminate between reality
and fiction.

My cat's in heat and has ear mites. Just thought I'd share.

She goes into the vet tomorrow for both.

One of the things I love about DYI recording is that I always run with whatever
happens. One of my older pieces has a friends mom banging on the door and
saying, "You guy ok in there?" Another on has a dormy guy yelling at me to shut
up. My usually silent cat decided to weigh in this time.

I'm not %100 done with the track. Got a bit of a hiss in the new set up that I
lacked before and I want to add in some atmospherics.

Looking forward to how this piece develops. Whay does DYI
recording mean? Or did you mean DIY (do it yourself)? Anyway, nice to
have you back.

Typo. DIY. And yep, do it yourself.

I've done stuff in full recording studios (both amatuer and professional) and you
miss the happy accidents when you're behind vacuum glass in a sound proof
booth. Or couse it does suck when the kids drive by with the thumping base
when you're on page 4 of a 5 page story, but that's why you can punch in and
out. :)

I've been hoping you would post something again soon. This
is very cool. Kind of ethereal and creepy. I love using the
childlike voice as almost a shadow. As usual, the words are
awesome. And I think Muffet has quite a career ahead as a
solo artist. Good stuff.

I took some time off to get new material and to get my computer set up
straightened out. I also wanted to work on my personal site. I am almost
finished with the web redesign, got some new poems written, and while I still
need to figure out the computer stuff, I think I'm close enough for now.

Nice to see I was missed. :)

INTENSITY &mdash 07/27/05 - 12:40:27 PM
This rips man, I been in a crazy state of mind area lately where opposite actions occur simultaneously. Like linear time is no longer working. In a way, this begins very much like that for me, But as it goes on, I feel it's you drowning in a life of solitude.
Some guilt somewhere too.
Didn't you get a squeeze yet?
Remember that Starflower deal? It was a guy who played me for a sucka...
What's this mean to you (the poem, not me being a sucka)

INTENSITY &mdash 07/27/05 - 02:53:37 PM
I remember the Starflower thing. I ducked out. :)

This poem was pretty much how the dream happend. Was a crazy nutty dream.
Had an ex-girlfriend in it. Told the whole thing to a friend. Said, she yelled at
me for not saving them, then when I had it to do over, she begged me not to.

"Yep, damned if you do, damned it you don't. Women."

Only difference between this poem and the way the dream went was it was more
of a solo thing. In the dream it never occurred to me that I could have taken her
hand and stepped forward.

Spooky! &mdash 08/12/05 - 11:53:06 PM
I loved this track! It was very, very eerie. I am glad that all the
lights are on when I listened! I really enjoyed the structure
you set up, repeating the line "And we watched them drown,"
and then saying "I would drown." Very nice! The cat's meow
makes it even spookier at the ending, and it's amusing to
know that you didn't intend for it to be in there. I like the fact
that you kept this take. An accident became a great addition!
Keep it up!

Thanks. Yeah, I had to take the cat to the vet the next day, tried to mic her in
her carrier, didn't turn out nearly as well.

Wish I had time to really go to town on some of this stuff. Web design, audio,
work, slams, wine, be nice to write and have time for a life too.

one nightmare deserves another &mdash 08/16/05 - 04:12:17 PM
I listened to this poem, and during my very next sleep
cycle I had a nightmare of my own, where I watched a
former workmate drive a '79 Chevy up a bumpty hillside
to reach me, whence he handed me an iPod and a page
containing a songlist filled with Country Western and
Religious artists, and then said "Thanks for downloading
all these songs for us; we need them by tomorrow
morning because we are leaving town by 10 o'clock."
Argghh! Not the death creepy vision you have intoned
here (you capture existential dread so perfectly, where
death is both an enemy and a friend), but a nightmare
nonetheless, which, rightly or wrongly, I'm linking directly
to have listening to your work. Your poetry is always so
powerful.

Sorry man. :)

I actually like nightmares. I find them free entertainment. I usually dream really
really boring dreams though. As long as it's not a mortgage nightmare I usually
wake up thinking "cool," but I've had a few that stuck with me for the rest of the
day.

Watching a train crash &mdash 02/24/06 - 03:09:38 PM
Sometimes all you can do is stand and watch the destruction. I dig the
poetry. You are a man of many thoughts!

How do you know when its safe to go in the water? Is it dark?

Tell Muffet it was a good mix.

Watching a train crash &mdash 03/01/06 - 09:02:45 PM
My life is a train wreck. I've learned quite a bit about GB since I recorded this
one. I've been thinking of going back and remixing it. Sometimes it's best to
leave well enough alone.

Eventually, I plan to make a spoken word CD, and am guessing this one will be
on there. I'll master it then.

Nightmares &mdash 03/05/06 - 01:41:58 PM
I think I might have a nightmare myself after that one. I have a BIG imagination and that really set it off, gave me chills. I especially like the vocal effects.
