Way Cool &mdash 07/26/05 - 10:22:06 PM
Like this stuff live more than recorded, like Jazz and Blues,
the Bluegrass stuff loses something without an audience. Or
maybe I'm just too sober.

Post more please.

Way Cool &mdash 07/27/05 - 12:10:59 AM
Yep. Way better live. But lately we've been playing for three people on the
green of the public historical society steps, so that's almost like playing to a
mic. Not only are you too sober, so are we. But I appreciate you listening
nonetheless.

High Lonesome &mdash 07/26/05 - 11:44:36 PM
Welcome to MacJams Mow Me Down. As you may notice,
there is very little bluegrass posted here. In fact,
bluegrass is lumped in with Country, but I think that's
going to change soon when the genres are expanded.

This has a very nice, clean sound. Good mix and vocals.
Thanks for posting. I look forward to hearing more from
your sessions.

High Lonesome &mdash 07/27/05 - 12:18:09 AM
Thanks for the you-hoo. I haven't gotten my sea legs enough to notice much
of anything yet, but I plan to. I did notice that Bluegrass didn't have its own
home yet. Glad to hear it will soon. I have a few more cuts from our demo I'd
like to share. Seems like a friendly place.

pumped up the volume &mdash 07/27/05 - 12:01:12 AM
this is a gorgeous little ditty.. my first encounter with
Bluegrass on MacJams and my only complaint is that I
couldn't play it loud enough. so glad you've joined!
many thanks for uploading.

pumped up the volume &mdash 07/27/05 - 12:22:43 AM
I will have to look into the volume thing. Maybe you need to stand closer the
the stage! I'll listen to other cuts from other folks and see if I can figure out
the level thing. Gotte get me a Marshall amp!

Excellent &mdash 07/27/05 - 12:45:10 AM
This has a great, professional sound. Really nice
harmonies, excellent muscianship, and engaging vocals. I
would love to see you post the lyrics. I like to read along,
helps to take the whole thing in.

A great job, guys! And welcome to MacJams!

Excellent &mdash 07/27/05 - 07:47:06 PM
That's me singin. I just strum the guitar, so the real talent is with the rest. I get
to do the easy part and just step aside when the solos come round. Thanks for
your kind words.

Kickin' &mdash 07/27/05 - 04:20:52 AM
This has a lovely feeling... what a great band you have
there. You really sound excellent together. A really
swinging rendition... thanks.

Kickin' &mdash 07/27/05 - 07:54:13 PM
We're all into other things and it is a pleasure when we get a chance to get
together. Thank you kindly. I do real estate, several of the boys do sessions, give
lessons, stay alive, and probably run moonshine on weekends. Evan's an
accountant, so he gets to tally how much money we could be making if we only
could figure out how. (Actually, those days are past and we just like to twitch it
when we can.)

Ooh, I'm a sucker for a mandolin &mdash 07/27/05 - 07:28:57 AM
Great tune, great vibe. What comes across most is how
'together' you sound as a band ... the instruments all
making their own contribution, sounding carefree and
bouncy but very tight and slick. It sounds like you're all
having a really great time playing it. I'm very impressed.

Ooh, I'm a sucker for a mandolin &mdash 07/27/05 - 07:56:44 PM
Havin a great time is our main reasoning. Glad it comes through. I never think
these recordings do justice to the good time part of it.

Good Job Boys &mdash 07/27/05 - 08:08:48 AM
Nice tight playing. Lead singer has that high and
lonesome sound for sure. Classic bluegrass. Welcome and
nice job!

Tight! &mdash 07/27/05 - 08:36:12 AM
Great work. Sounds like you've been playing together for
years (which you may have been for all I know). Either, way
sounds great. Vocals have awesome bluegrass sound.

Tight! &mdash 07/27/05 - 08:05:12 PM
Been playing a long time, only about 5 years as The Mow Me Down 5, in this
formulation. Most have played the Opry, not together yet, we don't even really
rehearse any more. Mostly lawn parties. Waiting for the real estate bubble to
burst, I spect.

Great cover of the great Bill Monroe tune. How can you tell when the stage is level? When the drool comes out of both sides of the banjo player's mouth!

Great fun Americana &mdash 07/28/05 - 12:46:57 PM
I'm no fan of modern "Country Western" music, but love
good folksy Bluegrass, and you guys did a wonderful job...
so I'm glad Caroline here on MacJams mentioned it,
otherwise I'd have passed it by! Now it's time for you to
hang out here, pick up chic... I mean pick up tips on
recording & mixing (vocals were too soft, but the very
talented instrument-playing made up for it)... and post
some more great stuff! Welcome to a rather addictive
website!
ttfn,
Drakonis

I was WONDERING... &mdash 08/01/05 - 11:57:51 AM
...where the bluegrass was...

Nicely done, guys. The blend is good, the swing feels
right, vocals are great. There was one spot where I wanted
the guitar to come forward for the solo, but that's nit-
picking...

I'll have to bookmark your page and start checking it...

Hey, what's the difference between a mandolin and a
trampoline?

(You have to take off your shoes before you jump on a
trampoline....)

Sorry. Used to play with a mandolin player, and we
collected all the bad musician jokes in the world...Don't
get me started...

I was WONDERING... &mdash 08/03/05 - 07:06:14 AM
Thank you kindly. About the lack of guitar soloing, well, I generally stay away
from soloing since I'm just a rhythm guy. Everyone else is much better at
soloing. Think of myself as a tuned washboard more than a guitarist.

Mean playin' &mdash 08/02/05 - 11:14:04 AM
You're all obviously excellent musicians - this is played
with great verve and style and no one tries to dominate.

However, I do have comments to make on recording
quality and arrangement: the track seems to stay at one
level all the way through and I would suggest paying more
attention to varying the texture (e.g. pairing back to just
guitar and fiddle for a few bars)

On the other hand the way you played it is probably the
way you meant it to sound - either way I still enjoyed this
track a lot.

Such a cool bluegrass band you are! Singing true classic
bluegrass! That's not many in this world who can do with this
relaxed attitude of a band who knows what they're doing!
And which is so lovely listening to!

Great song! Delight!

is no criticism. I'd like you to post the lyrics though. GREAT SONG.
