Description:
A while ago I wrote something in one of the forums where I made up the song name "Jellyfish In A Stolen Hovercraft" as a random example to make some point about something. Well, with encouragement from Mystified I decided to make a song for the name.

It was just a fun afternoon project using some sound effects, loops and live flute and vocals.

Yes, that is me singing with voice modulation.

Lyrics:
Some occasional swearing and lots of jellyfish skat.

Hardware:
G5, etc., bamboo flute

can that jellyfish sing! This is a lot of fun, and that art is very cool. Nice panning going on too. Reminds me of a story, I think it was "Big Jelly" by Bruce Sterling, where entrepreneurs found a way to make giant, flying jellyfish.

Thanks, PV. I'm not familiar with that story. I'll have to check it out.

in surround.

Where is the jellyfish dude? Sign him on for some GREAT
scat-singing!

Peter....THANK YOU for this! When you posted that song
title in the (song art?) forum thread, I just had to hear
what it might be. Was hoping that someone of your wit
and musical creativity would take me up on it...and I'm
delighted you did!

Every bit as good as I imagined it would be! :)

Thanks, Mysti. Glad you liked it. Now I have to make a song for "Ten Pallets Of
Chinese Hot-Pants For My Sweetheart", another hypothetical song title I came up
with somewhere else in the forums.

Yes, yes, Peter.
You'd better get to writing that one, too! :)

Thanks again. Heheheheee

I love this kind of stuff! &mdash 07/27/05 - 09:51:07 PM
Fun and quirky and inventive, too... this reminds me
of something you'd see on Spongebob Squarepants...
but that sound is from the Jetsons, of course... so
maybe a jellyfish tied up Spongebob and stole his
hovecraft and... I think I watch too much TV.

Insane! &mdash 07/28/05 - 05:00:18 AM
This is far out Peter, even on this I can hear the value of
the new gear. Great production, everything is so , , , alive
and active! It's one thing to have a good song, but to nail
the production as well is icing on the cake.
Another brilliant track.

Traffic violation &mdash 07/28/05 - 04:39:20 PM

We hereby issue a ticket for speeding in a stolen hovercraft on the wrong side of the freeway at 96 miles per hour with open containers in the vehicle. Police have audiotaped the chase, denial is futile. "Click here to play" to access recording.

And some subtle quoting.... &mdash 07/28/05 - 08:36:58 PM
...From SGF? Am I mistaken?...This is one UNinhibited
jellyfish, definitely NOT jammin' up ANY groove inside...

Y'know, Peter, I never really 'got' the George Jetson influence
on your music, but now I'm going back for a re-listen...

Fun.

Surrounding &mdash 07/29/05 - 02:06:26 PM
Excellent use of stereo, quite reminiscent of "on the run"
by Pink Floyd in that sense.

The odd rythms of speech with the swing cymbals
produce an authentic Jazzy effect.

mean that in the most positive, artistic way!

from this dragon (and his kids)! This was very well done
Peter! Great overall concept (from Mysti's drawing board
to your light table), masterfully crafted into a non-stop-
smirky-joyride! This evokes vivid imagery while listening.
I thought you did wonderfully with the fun skat-singing,
great instruments and effects, nice mixing, and humorous
and detailed song art to boot! 8s across for coming up
with such a catchy creation from an offhand forum
remark! Kudos & Calamari!

Manic and yet...cool &mdash 08/02/05 - 06:13:10 PM
Other than there perhaps being too much siren sample - I
dig this. Sums up the whirl of emotions of a busy city
uptown at night. Flashing lights, the roar of cars, the love
the anger...

Manic and yet...cool &mdash 08/02/05 - 10:33:05 PM
Thanks, Las Bragas. I appreciate your taking the time to comment. But from
how you and one or two other people have described the music I think
perhaps you are misinterpreting what is supposed to be going on. It's not
supposed to be a soundscape of a busy city. It's supposed to be about
jellyfish stealing a hovercraft and being persued by the police, hence the siren
sound that always follows the hovercraft sound zipping around and the angry
hovecraft owner yelling obscenities. It's basically a chase scene contrasted
with the cool indifference of the thieving jellyfish.

I'd hoped that that basic story would be evident from the title and the sounds.
I'm not offended that you and perhaps one or two others may not have gotten
it. I just want to clarify. Yeah, if it were just supposed to be a city
soundscape then the use of the siren would be excessive for sure.

Haha &mdash 08/02/05 - 10:42:31 PM
Man, I out my headphones on for this one, and damn, that's some serious panning. I dug this - the whole jazz drum beat in the backround. This shows how much fun this program can be, and how you should never take the art of music too serious.

awesome fusion of various sound effects and vocals...it's like the jetsons goes to seaworld...very jazzy...this should have been a feature song in the movie "shark tales"

Thanks, Stevo, four times even. It's nice to get a comment from you as you were
one of the first MacJammers I listened to and fav'ed when I joined last December
and I don't think I've seen you around since back then. I love the Special
Relativity song.

Nice! &mdash 11/02/05 - 09:04:32 PM
This is a great little aural collage -- silly, inventive, and just a little bit
nuts. It makes me think of something that might have been playing on a
random radio in a Firesign Theater piece.

Nice work.

This was one of the funnest songs I've heard.

Very nicely done. Great piece.

Can you tell me the type of jellyfish those were? They sounded like
Medusas but I'm not too sure.
