Lyrics
I’ve lived longer than most of humankind
Fifty years and now I’m wondering when
I might get my second wind
another shot of energy

Every time I re-invent myself
I fall behind and learn again
I float around the bend and see
It looks uphill down river to me

The most important thing I’ll do is done
Like I’ve spawned out in some salmon run
Floating exhausted easy prey
tired of knowing I’ll be dying one day

Damn its been good, been a good run
I’ve been somebodys favorite son
Can’t account for my good luck
this whole world has got me love struck

We rush about on this pale blue dot
so much beauty in one spot
I’m grateful even with all our strife
It might be greedy wanting an afterlife

Save me, save my space
Don’t want to vanish from this place
Don’t know if I can keep the pace
Don’t think I’ll be getting any stronger

Being remembered is a vain little wish
A great big sea for such small fish
Don’t know if I can keep the pace
much longer, very much longer...

I Can Relate
Yep, know what you mean. I'm a further down the trail

I Can Relate
Forgot to say I really liked the song. Good singing, melody and lyrics. That's
one area that you should do more of.

I Can Relate
Thanks Bronco.

Feels a bit like that dream where you are in the 9th grade and look down and are
only wearing underwear. I appreciate your kind comments.

Is this what I have
to look forward to? Hell, I just turned 40....damn.

Very cool sentiment expressed with some exceptionally
interesting lyrics.

Backing vox (tick-tock) added a sense of urgency to the
"tired" theme of the song. Well done!

Is this what I have
Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you like the song. 50 ain't so bad;
somewhere between forty and fifty you realize that you've passed a half a tank
and there ain't no where to fillup. Grateful just the same.

Nice!
Excellent work, Alan. The song drives the listener all the
way to the end, with clear, interesting vocals. The lyrics
have a lot to say, but the changing rhyme scheme was a
bit distracting. The song begins with no rhymes, then
rhymes the last two lines in the 2nd stanza, then rhymes
the entire stanza for a bit, but then breaks the pattern
again in the last two stanzas. I love rhyming lyrics (to my
mind, it adds to the rhythm and lyrical nature of a song).
Think about committing to a rhyme scheme and sticking
to it throughout the song (with the possible exception of
the chorus, where you can change up to add variety, if
suited).

Other than that small quibble, I really enjoyed the song.
You have a really interesting voice -- I couldn't stop
listening, and I love it when that happens.

Nice!
Thanks Joanna,
Those are really useful comments to me. The lyrics kind of fell together quickly,
and I probably didn't exhaust the options for rhyme. The comments about my
voice help my confidence a lot. That kind of feedback keeps me willing to keep
working. Thanks again for listening and responding.
