Description
Simple keyboard/vocal recording - I'm planning to do this better. I like the song though - hope you do too. Thanks to Caroline for the photo.

Lyrics
She's having trouble sleeping
She lies awake beside me
Gaping at the TV
And tapping on her head

She won't come to movies
And she won't play our CDs
She collapsed in Sainsbury's
And said the food is red

Is there something in the water
Or something in the air

I don't believe in therapy
But there are savings for a holiday
A conservatory
Do what you have to

She's having trouble sleeping
She talks about the government
She wonders where the money went
And who the burglars are

She talks me through the papers
Correcting all the headlines
She says they are her Valentines
To all the commissars

Is there something in the water
Or something in the air

Tell me, what's the medicine
Oh, I'd do anything to hear her play
Her violin
Do what you need to do
Do what you have to

like the tune
Interesting words there. Feels like a real character for sure.
The words for some reason really sucked me into this tune.

Nice

Thanks

Thanks - glad you like it. I'm really glad you get a sense of character, I worked
hard on it. Although I hope you can see the guy as well as the girl.

Lovely song!
This is a really lovely song, my only crit in production
terms would be that the vocals sound a little loud in the
mix. That is a minor point, the performance and tune are
excellent...Ben Folds watch out!!

Lovely song!
He he - this is actually a remix of a version I sent to Caroline, whose only
complaint was that the vocals were too quiet... I guess I overdid it! Thanks for
the comments.

Welcome on board
Lovely song. Have to agree with SteveL on the mix. What a sweet feel you have - thanks!

Lovely
Very sweet and heart-felt.
I agree about toning the vocals (who are gret, I might add)
down just a tiny bit.
Nice lyrics as well!

Lovely
Thanks Einarus - I'm never happy with my vocals so it's good to hear you liked
them (despite poor production)!

Light stage musical tenor
This could from a musical like Falsettos, very nice. Wonderful
chord progression, very sweet theatrical light lyrical vocals.
There are times the vocals distort, perhaps they are too hot
and need compression. Very nice tune.

Good sad song
Good song, but it made me feel blue. Catchy tune and lyrics. Well done. Keep up the good work.

Good sad song
Sorry it made you feel blue. I guess it is sad - these two probably aren't going to
make it together. They just misunderstand each other. He doesn't really know
what's going on with her - I don't think the doctor is going to help. She's doing
her best to explain, but she's involved in some difficult stuff. I don't know what
happens next.

Catchy tune
Excellent composition! Very nice chord progs. With some
proper mixing, this could be quite good. You play and
sing well. Did you do this recording in one pass? Or did
you lay down the keyboard part first? I think you could
start out slower and then build to a faster pulse. At the
end, with "Oh, I'd do anything to hear her play her violin,"
you could slow it down and broaden it a bit more as a
contrast to her rigid obsessive-compulsiveness. You
simply can't keep up with her, so you slow down life for
yourself.

Catchy tune
Thank you for the comments. I recorded the keyboard first and then
overdubbed the vocal. The keyboard was one take (probably first take actually
- I did a lot of recording that day) and the vocal was a composite of two or
three takes. I would like to do it live with a real piano - might get around to it
one of these days.

Speeds - you might be right, I'll have a think about it. I've been wanting to
arrange this in full for a while but it's difficult to find the right sound. It can't
be too emotional, despite what he's feeling, because of who he's talking to. It
needs that grey, waiting room feel. But at the same time something needs to
be revealed.

Is she obsessive-compulsive? I'm not so sure.

Mercury's risin'
This is inventive, fun music, nice lyrics... and your singing
style, melody, and piano playing reminds me a bit of
Freddie Mercury for some reason. Unfortunately you
needed a windscreen on your mic, to get rid of the
breathy pops (BreathyPops, a wintergreen candy?).
Backing off the mic a bit, and adding a touch of reverb on
the voice would help a lot I think. Fun!

Haunting
I'd love to hear the story behind this song. Someone touched the Atlas deeply.
Not bad for a squeaky tenor !!!
Love the voice - pathos Atlas.

Short of perfect...
Very good composition...sort of a showtune kind of ballad. The voice is
pure and pitch-perfect but comes of a little loud and raw and the piano is
a little bit too far in the background. A little processing of the vocal part
and increasing the piano volume a little bit will make this perfect.
