Description:
The second collaboration between U.K. based Epileptic Gibbon (that's me: lyrics, all vocals, thematic input) and U.S. based Dwwave (all sounds/music).
This song was inspired initially by my thoughts about suicide bombers but it grew more into a song about anyone who uses their beliefs (whether religious, political, or anything else) as an excuse to kill or hurt innocent people. To anyone who thinks that they know what it's all about, maybe you should think again…
Lyrics:
Ezekiel 25:17: "And I will execute great vengeance upon them with furious
rebukes; and they shall know that I am the LORD, when I shall lay my vengeance upon them."
Have you got all the answers?
Is your way the best?
Then blow up little children
And put it to the test
Set the charges
Take a life
Become a martyr
Cause some strife
They say killing ain't easy
At least that's true at first
But don't wrap it up in scripture
For you'll only make it worse
Twisted ideologies
Bring the world to its knees
Not all monsters
Come out on All Hallow's Eve
Dreaming in metaphors
Biting our tongues
Innocence died today
As well as right and wrong
Am I being inconsistent?
Contradictions abound?
Carry on with this path
And the devil is crowned
One man and his dogma
It's a merry little tune
The scales they seem unbalanced
It's Judgement Day real soon

It is a interesting scenario, especially now that Eppy and I are colloborating as
well.
I have read the comments and enjoyed each one(Thanks) , I look forward to
working
again with Eppy, We seem to work well together, and no conflicts. I really
enjoyed the collaboration and glad this turned out the way it did. I like spoken
word pieces.

Nice to see a little message in some music. Definitely good stuff. The background loop is catchy and the vocals are calmly powerful. Keep up the good work. I enjoyed listening. [ Reply to This ]
Groovy tune &mdash 08/04/05 - 05:42:31 PM
Glad you enjoyed listening. Always nice to be appreciated. Really enjoyed
working on this track, despite the negativity in the lyrics. Great catharsis
given the powerlessness I felt over all this death and destruction driven
by ideology. Oh, yes, there is fun to be had in this sort of stuff, really. ;-)
Great that you enjoyed the loops - Dwwave worked long and hard on
selecting and fiddling with those loops and I think it shows. I hope we're
gonna work on more tracks together. Thanks again for stopping by.

Spoken word, is a bit of a lost art-form these days. Even
though it's not popular, don't stop, push forward, and
make it your own. people will come around, eventually.

Thanks, dude. I did think about singing this rather than speaking it but
just couldn't find the right vocal melody. Maybe some other time… But as
long as you and others think that the spoken word stuff works then I'm
willing to persevere. Dwwave and I seem to enjoy doing it so I think we'll
carry on. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Caroline,
Glad you found it interesting, particularly as I know it isn't really your
sort of thing. David and I might very well be working on something
fluffier, but white will be a more appropriate colour for it and it may have
to wait until later in the year so come back to us then. I hope you've

Nice backing track to the spoken verse... &mdash 08/07/05 - 12:35:37 AM
You've both done a very good job here, Eppy. The tension
and 'cut' to your voice matches well with the backing track
that Dwwave has provided. The unsettling ending (almost
erratic) is an effective device of tension as well.
I'd almost agree with caroline and say: Make
something pink and fluffy (and sparkly) next time, but I do
like the honesty of this piece.

Thanks so much, Mysti. As I've said to you before, I really appreciate
your votes, comments and opinions. I think you're right, this was a good
combined effort. Sorry if it's a little unsettling but to be honest that's
absolutely what I wanted from this track and Dwwave has provided the
kind backdrop that the lyrics were crying out for.
And if you want something more pink and fluffy, well Dwwave and I are
in the first stages of working on it but it may take some time. In the
meantime, check out my vocals on Nisper's new track (Loose Anna

Thanks for the comments. Much appreciated. Maybe a David Byrne-style
level of craziness/paranoia would have worked with this. I hadn't really
considered it but I can see how it would have fitted nicely. Of course I'd
much rather David Byrne had just done the vocals in the first place, but
you can't have everything, can you? Thanks again for commenting.

A little hot . . . &mdash 08/10/05 - 05:48:04 PM
. . . on the vocals. Overpowering.
I'd add some phase effect or SOMEthing on them so they
are less up front and more integrated into the overall feel.
You were a little slushy-mouthed at times too.
Enunciation is HARD, innit?
Well written words with great moments "A man and his
dogma" (tho in the US it's "a boy and his dog")
A bit heavy and controversial for my taste. Then again,
look at how many hits plays and comments it got too . . . [ Reply to This ]
A little hot . . . &mdash 08/11/05 - 05:15:48 PM
Thanks, Troy. It means a lot to me that you've commented.
You're not the only one to suggest that maybe there should be some
kind of effect on the vocals. I wasn't sure how much I could get away
with and didn't want to push it, but you could be right.
I speak in public for a large part of my living so I know how important
enunciation is, and I also know that despite regular practice I'm not the
best person at it. With this track the balance was between enunciating
and getting across a certain mood. I could have made it clearer and more
precise but perhaps lost some of the "tightly-lipped anger" in the
process. Maybe not, I don't know. But it did seem to me to about balance
and maybe I didn't quite get the balance right on this occasion.
A man and his dogma was a joke for Brits, sorry to exclude the rest of
the world. ;-)
Heavy and controversial is not necessarily my normal preference either
but I thought the occasion and my mood warranted it. I'm hoping the
next collab with dwwave will be light and fluffy. ;-)

Which God, which Devil? &mdash 08/21/05 - 08:28:51 PM
Very interesting words and music. The soft background
serves the words well. Contradictions do abound in this
ever contracting twisting snake of a world. There is so
much horror that has been committed in the history of
this sad earth in the name of god and country that I
sometimes feel that, if it exists, heaven or paradise must
be quite a lonely place no matter what your religion or
beliefs.
Loved the ending after the words. The ever spreading
distance between the sounds and the decreasing volume
seemed to sum up the hopelessness of the human
condition. [ Reply to This ]
Which God, which Devil? &mdash 08/27/05 - 04:31:27 PM
Thanks, Bronco. It sounds like you really got to the heart of the words
and the music. I think dwwave's background suits this track perfectly… it
took us a while to get what we wanted and I'm glad that others feel it
works too. The more I thought about the subject matter of this song the
more worried I was about being too simplistic, patronizing or reactionary
… those things never work – but I hope you feel we got the right balance.
And isn't that ending just a kicker?… again dwwave got it just right, I
think. I loved that effect and I'm glad you do too. Thanks so much for
listening and commenting.

Lerrit Out! &mdash 08/29/05 - 08:45:04 AM
Thanks for listening and commenting. We both appreciate it. Maybe
you're right about allowing more emotion through on this vocal
performance but I kinda wanted to imply a simmering tension… still not
sure whether that's what comes across or, if it does, whether it works or
not, but that's how it will stay for now. Maybe dwwave and I will revisit it
sometime and I'll try the vocal again…

Two Worlds Here &mdash 08/27/05 - 05:52:19 PM
Carefree background track to highlight the contrast of our
enjoyment and appreciation of life versus these OCD hate
freaks from another millenium. We need to reload our
ICBM's with prozac and tunes like this and maybe they will
start to realize that praying 5 times a day and blaming
everyone else for their misery is only screwing up their
backs and potential value to the world in which the rest of
us thrive. Pathetic little bastards.

Lyrics are inspired. Nice dynamics and EQ.
It is a bit too segmented though. I would make
