Description:
Well here it is... Kaleidoscope. A little slice of Power Pop (with a cynical edge). I would like to thank all those who had a crack at the spoken part of the song (SlimGirlFat, Emily Rohm, Mystified and CJHoose) and to the people finally chosen. (Drum roll please...) Ledubutant and because his take mad me laugh so much - Troy. In fact Ledebutant's version gave me the idea for the intro spoken part. Thanks.

Lyrics:
KaleidoscopeWords & Musical Noise: Pie
"say you love me and I'll still sleep with you"
kaleidoscope of color breaking down the light
and casts it's hue upon the wall
caught in a slo-mo trance
emotion dances and raises a quizical brow
sittin' 'round dodging coffins waiting for their time to come
with luck, perhaps they'll leave together, hand in hand
cups of tea and custard creams, watch the pigeaons fly
park bench sofa, channel hopping, watch the world go by
can you tell me, is this love that i'm feeling?
can you tell me?
or a psychological need to imprint ourselves upon the most available compatible?
"oh romeo, romeo - wherefore art thou romeo?
deny thy father and refuse thy name
or if thou wilt not be - be but sworn my love
and I'll no longer be..."
"shut up!"
BREAKDOWN
can you tell me, is this love that i'm feeling?
can you tell me?
or a psychological need to imprint ourselves upon the most available compatible?
fast cars and margaritas, she opens up on sight of bling
he takes his prize and plays the game of lo-fi dreams and duplicity
ladies nights and business trips, laying claim to time for space
their secret lives, their rendezvous - their ignorance is bliss.
can you tell me, is this love that i'm feeling?
can you tell me?
is this love that i'm feeling? is this love that i'm seeing?
is this love, is this love, is this love?
am i seeing love? (is this what you call love?)
am i hearing love? (is this your dream call love?)
should i believe in this feeling you call love?

Wonderful! You really got it going on, Pie. Excellent
musicianship and production, great harmonies and
sensibilities.
Your thematic quirkiness is a constant source of amusement
to me.
And in answer to your musical question: "is this love?..."
If you don't KNOW... probably not. ;-)

Did you just tell me to shut up?
Pie, I'm so happy that I got to help with such a great song.
I told you before, but I really think you have such
wonderfully realized, brilliantly produced music.
This one's absolutely no exception, great singing, great
lyrics (she opens up on sight of bling!) fabulous
production, amazing guitar work, a sense of humor and
TROY!
Thanks so much for letting me play, too. Make more
songs immediately, please!

Thanks for the "just say you love me..." line. Serendipity.
And thanks to everyone else who contributed.

Talent.. I like the mix on thyis, I like your vocals very
much, great harmonies on the chorus and excellent
lyrics.
The added parts from ledebutant are wonderful and troys
are hysterical.. I love the whole quirky humour you show
in your music, alongside your guitar playing and overall
production skills.
Damn...
another fine song Pie,
Slimmie
Uber-clean and playful power-pop. Truly, a professional
grade number.
Honored to be involved, my love. Let me know when I can
help again.
on macjams. Like I said, you got some real talent. This
song is just an incredible music rock extravaganza
listening feast. Like Chuck Berry said.... move over
Queen... well, he sort of said somethng like that : )
I'll keep coming back for many slices of this Pie.

Great song. I love a pop song with some humor in it. The
spoken section is cute. I really like your voice especially!
It's very easy going and fun to listen to.
illuminati
Fun song and guffaw inspiring interludes. Ledeb and Troy
are great!
aclarke
worth the wait when you bring something new to the table. I
can't do the music thing nearly as well as you so I'm not in
any position to criticize your craft.... even if I could find
something to bit*h about.
chikoppi
Its unfortunate that slutty teeny bop dance and overly-
smarmy psuedo punk has conquered the pop charts. This
is a terrific pop song! There's nothing not to like. There is
an enjoyable blend of ecclecticism and convention. The
composition really drives the piece. The vocals have a
terrific style. The production is silky smooth. Its fun. Its
tight. This should be slipped into radio drive time!
funny, funny lyrics

Inventive pop. Great vocals, nice pacing, the humor is what
is especially appealing. The tongue-in-cheek but maybe not
style is perfect, great concept. Impeccable production. Fun
storytelling. Very entertaining. A wonderful companion to
your exceptional Mother track.
Pie
Cheers my good man. Mother is about to get the 'redux' treatment :-) to go
with this piece. All praise from yourself and everyone else here is great
motivation to crack on with more new material. Especially since I was
becoming disillusioned with this music lark. Thanks :-)

Thank GOD we live in a world where Shakespeare and power pop can coexists! I never thought I would here Shakespeare in a pop song. Loved it, great tune, good lyrics and a snappy beat to boot!!!!

Excellent production mate! Its inspirational to see a soft production on a 15" powerbook sound pro!
jug88
KEWL TUNE! I like the shoobee doo chorus in the
background. The spoken words are a nice touch and I got a
chuckle at the end with the Romeo insertion. The guitar was
just heavy enough I think. I like the irish accent or scottish
accent I was picking up - gives it a unique flare. Just when
you think its going to go POP it slides back to some heavy
guitar - that was nice and it flows with today's big bands too
like supersonic, green day, etc... The lyrics are good and I
thought you said BING so I had to go read the lyrics (haha). I
think this song should be on a CD somewhere! Great job
and goodluck in the future!!!
Pie
No Scottish or Irish accents 'round these parts, sir.

Your work is great. Hot guitar. You always have a wicked
twist of humor in your tunes. Although you have cute
voice, I probably would have rather heard Ledebutant's a
voice a little more.
Pie
you can find plenty more of Ledebutant's voice at her profile page.
appologies for singing on my own material.

Hey Mr Pie. I'm sorry. I'm just joking around. You are very talented and write
great songs. I'm a big fan of your music. Your voice is more than cute, it's
REAL cute, Ha, that me just joking around again. You have a great voice. It's
fits your song very well.

If all Pop were this good, radio wouldn't be torture (the bad
kind). If all Shakespeare were this good, summer theatre
festivals wouldn't be torture (even if they served beer, which
they DON'T!) If all Pie were this good, I would be fat! This is
better than 3.14159265358979323846 plus 6.85...
Remember, Pi never repeats, you are gonna have to top
yourself with the next release.

i think the download number to be the most significant. i
measure my tune that way...at this writting you have
almost 50 downloads...that is a very good indication of
how great this tune is!
Hooray for YOU!!!!

There's an amazing variety of sounds on this song, many
layers for the ears to sift through and enjoy.
The concept and production (AND performances!) are top-
notch on this tune; it's extremely well put-together,
everything fits like a glove.
The lyrics are abstract in a poetic sort of way; not instantly
understood; thought-provoking....one has to dig a bit
deeper to get the meaning, which I like.
The changes of pace in rhythms and sound textures
throughout offer a lot of interest on this tune, and the
inclusion of spoken dialogue by ledeb and Troy adds a
special dimension.
This is indeed one of the best "power-pop" songs on
MacJams and I applaud you for creating such a well-done
piece of music.
I love it! It's so entertaining and the lyrics are really nice too! You've added really creative dialogue too. That mixes it up real well, I enjoyed listening. The singing is great too, a good voice for the song. I salute you for a fantastic few minutes of good music.

Thanks for sharing. Lots of very neat guitar licks, plus those
harmonies are real cool. Wow, like how you put in a theatre
feel too.
Good going

I was immediately struck by how great this song was, but I decided not to comment until I'd listened to it a few times. Now I've worn the track out and I still think it's amazing. Your performance, production, and general pop sensabilities just blow me away, sir. Wish I could play the guitar like that...maybe I could actually finish a song on occassion :) Thanks for posting this. I just can't help but give you 10's, which I think I've done once before...ever.
TEXASFEEL
I thought this was a bit a rock n roll tune to me. Very nice
voice, dig the guitar and everything else too. Great
job...now I've got some new stuff to down load.
drakonis
Top-notch guitar playing, wonderfully biting lyric-writing,
great singing, perfect songwriting, awesome arranging and
mixing... dunno, sounds like a chart-topper to me!
Ledebutant's silky voice was the PERFECT choice to juxtapose
against your raspy diatribe. And Troy's stage-left
appearance at the end was icing on the "don't take it too
seriously" cake. This is great, Pie! DLed/faved!

Even though the cynical exterior of the words you use, I think
you are a romantic. It is what every girl is hoping when she

and it's as good as it gets. Really enjoyed it and look
forward to more.-JAC

...expertly produced and catchy! ...and it has way
more spunk than Whitesnake's "Is This Love?", but I
actually don't mind that song either... I admit it!
Those soundclips are a nice added touch... especially
the ones with Ledebutant...
Pie
I love Whitesnake's '1987' :-)

The 3 Divas
amazed at your song here. Such amusing lyrics and you
really have a fantastic singing voice.
It shows that you take a lot of care and time over your
music. The production is more or less perfect. Your Guitar
plaing is amazing. A very talented person indeed.
Its an outstanding composition all round. I like the vocal
additions by the other two macjammers.

Great tune! Your craftsmanship is refreshing and freaking great! Vocals,
guitars, drums - all quite lovely!
Are you hip to an artist named Owsley? Not that you sound like him, I
just think you would dig his music.

Production is great! very good song, great guitars... it's the first song I hear from you, so... I'll keep on listening... :)

Genious song! Had me smirking all the way through, great performance people.

... you really have your craft down
jpfeiff
Too bad you put that last little snippet at the end...I didn't mind a little humor during the song, but didn't want to brought back to that comical modr after jammin out on the slammin guitar and drums. Nice pop hooks with enough edge to keep it appealing for me.

The 1st time I commented on this I was pretty new here, and didn't
know how unusual this post is, after being here awhile I just have to
say more... guitars are excellent, mix is a 10... top shelf, and I love
when a true rock tune has a great melody... very compelling stuff
Alannah
Into a song that may have been sitting on the shelf for a few months .... revive the forum post ! Glad I got to hear this ... I missed it the first time around and likely never would have found it ..... consider this one officially dusted off ... it was a fun listen .... my personal favourite part is the male voice saying "shut up" in the middle of the song! It cracked me up ... I was not expecting that.
springclock
pop rock in fine form....good lyrics and the spoken parts are great....solid
mix and tight production....dig the fretwork as well....you sounded like
you had a lot of fun while recording this....nice work

Nice work! I enjoy the variety and the lyrics are well written and original. I
don't know how you create something like this on a Powerbook but to
know that it's possible inspires me to continue on and maybe one day be
somewhat decent like you. Nice work! :D
j2morrow
What a great sound. Love the dichotomy of the Shakespeare quote and
the modern sensibility of your lyrics. "Shut up" indeed. Great stuff.

I am listening to this as the opening song on the first MacJams podcast. It turns out I represent hit number 3800 on this song. As great as it is, that number doesn't surprise me.
This is spectacular. You are a dangerous man, Mr. Pie. Brilliant choice by Tobin to make this song the first offered on MJ podcasts. You do the place proud.

Thanks for the feedback. You may be interested to know I am some way to completeing a new 2007/8 version of this track.

Now that I've heard all three versions (to date!) of this tune, I'm saturated in lots of colors and a song that has many changing shapes. And they're all good. This one's a little more, what? Melodic? Retro-poppy? Oasis-ey? Cant put my finger on it but.
Your vox tracks are absolutely lethal at all turns of this ever-changing kaeidoscope. Nice "Bowser-Shakespeare" job!
