Description:
This is a long one.
This song was almost entirely created using Native Instruments Software (except for garageband and one or two built in garageband instruments). The programs used were: Guitar Rig, Photone and Metaphysical Function from Electronic Instruments X2 (All three are fantastic). This song contains plenty of dark soundscapes and guitars in a Pink Floydish 10 minute long epic. Enjoy, comment, rate, fall asleep, wotever.

Intense &mdash 08/15/05 - 11:49:44 AM
Such a great range of textures. The rapid panning between L
and R during the mid section actually made me a bit
nauseous - powerful stuff!
I like the atmosphere you've created. Downloaded. [ Reply to This ]
Lots of cool stuff &mdash 08/15/05 - 12:31:55 PM
I like the guitars in here a lot. I was afraid such a long song wouldn't hold my interest, but actually, I quite like it. I prefer the groovier bits to the ambient ones, but the whole tune holds together nicely. Cool! [ Reply to This ]
Epic moment &mdash 08/15/05 - 04:42:03 PM
Sweeping Soundscape Lifts Payload to Summit of Bold
Mountain -- a suggested headline for Future OverWorld
magazine. This is a glorious piece, Liam. In this I hear the
mathematician agreeing with the philosopher that raw
metal resonance and amplified drumskins are good
things. This is possibly your most profound offering at
MacJams and you did it without words. The power of
harmonics. [ Reply to This ]
Epic moment &mdash 08/15/05 - 06:35:27 PM
Thanks for the comments. Your right about the "amplified drumskins" lol. It
was one of the many tracks that were put through guitar rig for good measure.
In fact i ran out of software instruments tracks on my G4 on this peice. 90% of
them were put through guitar rig, even Photone synths were put through. Really
not sure why, it takes up loads of CPU and i probably could have gotten the
same sound through T-Racks or just Garageband EQ.

What next? &mdash 08/15/05 - 06:23:34 PM
Very imaginative and interesting...DARK.... now that's an
understatement.
I'm impressed Obbster- you've really expanded your musical
horizons quite nicely. As usual I wasn't disappointed. [ Reply to This ]

Really dark and alluring. The beginning and the end could
easily fit as a horror film soundtrack - really cool.
Nice "guitars" as well.
Very cool! [ Reply to This ]
it's an opus! &mdash 08/15/05 - 07:02:36 PM
This is incredibly impressive. The kind of thing Floyd
would be doing if they started today. I was concerned
about the length, but I never lost interest - truly a
mystical, dark, moody journey.. All 9's! Fav'd. [ Reply to This ]

from great depths.... &mdash 08/15/05 - 08:32:15 PM
...this music comes from a far-away place. It is amazing,
truly.
I am particularly impressed with the opening.
Contemplative. The notes unfold so deliberately. No rush
here. This is one of the most impressive examples of
musical restraint I have heard in awhile. You give the
notes SPACE. Very tasteful.
Then it amps up a notch with the next layer of sounds.
And again, the music builds to the next level. Then it
ramps back down, symmetrically.
This piece really WORKS, because of the artful
combination of sounds, well produced, and well-paced.
The theme is simple and coherent -- the musical message
is consistent from beginning to end.
I must admit that this piece has touched me musically in a
way that I have not experienced in a while.
Masterful job, obbster. You're onto something here!

Obbster the king!!!
Brilliant!
Breathtaking!
Wasn't sure, when reading the description, if I would be
able to last a 10 minute song. Good thing I gave this a
listen or I may have missed out! Congrats on this
masterpiece! [ Reply to This ]

Can't tell you &mdash 08/17/05 - 03:43:49 PM
When you listed your influences, I almost didn't hit play. I
almost projectile vomited. I am glad that I give anything a
chance, even though I am a music snob.
This is a great track! Thanks for going against the grain
on this one! [ Reply to This ]
One word... &mdash 08/21/05 - 10:34:43 PM
... organic. This song grows like a seed in time lapse
photography, and quickly becomes its own jungle. I like it.
Quite a world you've made in this tune.

My cup of tea &mdash 08/22/05 - 10:12:21 PM
This is up there with the prog big guns... I love the texture,
diversity, building, seeding and the exquisite payoffs...
This music is why I love progressive rock. [ Reply to This ]
PERFECT &mdash 08/29/05 - 02:45:38 AM
This is Pure Music, I Like the sound you have created. Did
you make most of this with garage band? What jampacks/
Instruments do you use? Also whats guitar rig? Is that
something u can use for guitar loops? [ Reply to This ]
PERFECT &mdash 08/29/05 - 07:57:03 AM
This was sequenced and mixed entirely with Garageband. No Garageband Jam
packs were used. I used Native instruments Photone (it's a Software synth
created using their own Reaktor 5 Synth engine), Metaphysical Function (this is
an interesting peice of software as it creates soundscapes modelled using a
variety of mathematical functions with a great visual experience as well) and
Guitar Rig which is a Guitar Amp simulator. U can apply Guitar rig to any
software synth in garageband and it models a variety of vintage and modern
amp sounds and other effects.

Schweeeet! &mdash 10/03/05 - 05:15:12 PM
I like the bitcrush guitar. Gritty kitty.
Lots of movement and atmosphere. Really takes it's time, yet it's not too
long that way most 10 minute songs can be.
This really has NOTHING to do with your listed influences. And that's a
good thing. [ Reply to This ]

Love the way you have the patience to let this song build and build. It
totally held my attention as you went from the ambient beginning to the
more rhythmic 'rock' middle. Very nicely done. [ Reply to This ]
