Description:
This is a traditional swedish folk tune.
Polska = Reel
Från = From
Medelpad is a province in Sweden (see picture)
The tune was recorded by Jan Johansson in 1963 on an odd LP named Jazz på svenska. (Jazz In Swedish) where he played folk tunes on piano in jazzish arrangements. I've heard this record since a kid so that's the way it has been established in my mind and heart. (The record was a major classic for many years, and I believe it was exported to quite an extent).
Low E string tuned.down to D - otherwise classic guitar tuning.

that was something else, and it was swedish. YES

A beautiful piece. I'm mesmerized by such flawless,
emotional guitar playing. Very nice full recording too. The
only problem is at the very end when there is a click and the
remaining resonance and room noise cuts out. Let it go a
little longer and fade to true silence before cutting.
White Hawks
Woah. very beautiful. DLed FAVed IPODed.
thanks for sharing.

Another great piece - such clarity and emotion, and
typical precision in your playing. If you put enough of
these up I'll have a great CD for Sunday mornings!
Can't say any more really, as always, I'm mightily
impressed.
Thanks for putting this one up,
Neil

It's just keeps getting better and better. Such a lovely style
and a wonderful technique --- like a musical chat by the
fireplace.

That would be the wood of that Furch guitar. Very pretty
piece. Funny how the subtle things really give a tune that
something extra. For me it was the little single not runs
after the steady bass parts. Just seemed to accent the
whole mood for me.

Wow you keep amazing me great like always
Cameron
Cori Ander, I am so glad that you are posting these
Swedish folk tunes with such regularity on MacJams these
days. Each one is a gem, and each one speaks directly to
the heart. In this crazy world, we NEED this kind of music!
Thank you for sharing them here.
I really like the "luftpauses" (breaks) between phrases; it's
authentic folk music, the way people would sing these
songs. The changes of rhythm add a lot of interest to this
tune. It sounds very "natural".
As always, I am impressed with the recording quality of
your performances. They sound very "live", full and clear.
All of us are sitting around you at the campfire as you play
these wonderful pieces.
That's the way it is for me, as a listener. Thanks again for
posting!
Tadashi Togawa
Melody of Sweden woven to cloth.
Melody that people told.
Beauty is handed down.
Tom Atwood
I told Tadashi to say that. Fed him the verses.
Seriously, once again, Tadashi has pretty much summed things up in a few
poetic lines. This is a wonderful hand-me-down, Johannes. And it is just
another example of the strength you seem to gain in each tune you post.
Your playing is so full now, of confidence and joy and passion. No one can
touch you!

Mystified
Continuing this thread (pun intended) I want to agree with what's been said
here, and add my own observation: that you are aren't simply a guitar player,
Johannes, you are an artisan--a weaver, if you will, who takes the brightest
and most colorful threads of sound and weaves a beautiful tapestry of joy
with those strings on that lovely Furch 'loom' of yours.
It's marvelous, too, that you are letting us hear these beautiful folk songs
from Sweden.
Thank you so much :)

...At this point, do I have to say anything?...
Gorgeous tone...tremendous phrasing and articulation in
the playing...I love the little grace notes, the
ornaments...but you're also not a player who gives short
shrift to the main theme or to melody and becomes all
ornamentation...
As I have said before, and suspect I will say again...this is
exactly what I love in fingerstyle guitar playing, and in
music...
Aside from pure musicality and soulfulness, Curry, you
have learned how to record the acoustic guitar...your
recordings have become wondrous...They HAVE become
better, both deeper/richer and more sparkly over time...
[I didn't hear the click Peter refers to...]
I can't say enough, so I'm going to shut up...

Beautiful, gorgeous - a treat for the soul, a real gift.
Your essence comes through your music with great clarity.
Not many people can make that happen. You do it
consistently.

Like the somber sound of this.
Nice trills, soft ages past feel. Which makes a cool setting for
the acoustical guitar.

Weaving impression, using folk music, is a marvelous magic.
you have created a melancholy piece that reaches back over
a life lived, through a people. Very nice.
caroline
thank you for putting it where i can get my greedy little hands on it. now i can d/l it and than put it on the ipod - with rings on my fingers and bells on my toes - i will have cori (more cori) wherever i goes!! xxx

Nothing here that shouldn't be in the recording. Very
uncluttered performance and precise recording. The tone
and the 'space' are very fitting and inviting.
Is that harmonic at the end, your signature?
TEXASFEEL
you prove your gift. Well done. Once again another favorite to add to my list. Love the harmonics and the way they blend into the melody.
TEXASFEEL
Oh yeah...and this is very easy to score...=)

for relaxing on the Adirondack chair, looking out over the water. It's like when you're reading a good book in the sun and gentle breeze. Really gorgeous playing!

I love these traditional tunes, as you know. Beautiful rich
tonal range on the guitar, magical playing. Just delightful.
To my ears you seem to have melded what I like most about
Richard Thompson's and John Fahey's acoustic guitar
playing.
iG.STUDiO
