Description

This is the first acoustic guitar fingerpicking instrumental that I have posted. I used to do a lot of this in the Seventies around campfires and at parties. The themes are practiced but the order and variations aren't so it is really about 25% improvised and is never the same song twice. I have also renamed it in honor of the survivors of Katrina, in the hope that they truly will have Bright Tomorrows.

I'M READING AND LISTENING AND I WAS QUITE FINE UNTIL
YOU CHANGED CHORDS AND AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME, I
READ THAT THIS ONE WAS IN HONOR OF THE SURVIVORS
OF KATRINA...NOW I AM SITTING HERE BATHING IN MY
TEARS...I HAD NEEDED TO FEEL MORE THAN I HAD
ALLOWED MYSELF THE TIME TO AROUND THE HORRIBLE
DISASTERS THAT MANY IN THE SOUTH ARE HAVING TO
FACE. I HOPE THAT THINGS GET BETTER SOON ENOUGH
FOR THEM.

BACK TO OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM: THIS
WAS A BEAUTIFUL PIECE AND IT DID WHAT GOOD TUNES
DO, IT EMOTED ME IN WAYS THAT I NEEDED.

After listening again as I read your comments, I realize that the bass is my Martin's main advantage and I had actually eq'd some of the bass out because I was afraid it might sound too boomy otherwise. There WILL be a better tommorow...
Yes, there is an element of hope that is rising from all of the despair. And I
think it is the reality that there really is no government, there are only people!
And it is a time for all good people or people who have done wrong in the
past to redeem themselves and come together to help each other. I have
given my first cash donation and will give again every month until this can be
back to some resemblance of normality.

Thanks Tom. It just seemed like the right time with all the confusion, chaos
and anger to play some of my simpler, calmer, quieter stuff. I just got
overwhelmed with how many aspects there are to this disaster and how long
it will affect life in that part of the South. We have always produced the best
and the worst. We've seen the worst and now it is time for the best.

Thanks Steve! Fahey was one of my early influences in this type playing along
with Leo Kotke and Doc Watson. The people of America will solve our
problems, not the government. We are finally waking up to the fact that all of
our government, no matter how they label themselves, are inefficient, corrupt
and uncaring. It is no coincidence that the Bush's and Clinton are thicker than
thieves now! Well that speaks for itself doesn't it?

	sweet tune Very pretty tune, Bronco. I like how you run through different modes but come back to the original theme. Sounds like you are in an open tuning. Thanks alley-oop,

The guitar is a 1964 Martin D-18. I got it in 1972 after some idiot had totally
trashed it. The varnish in the back was completely rubbed off by metal belt
buckles, the sides were cracked badly in three places, the neck was way out
of adjustment, etc. I then took it to a repairman who put it into playable
condition but just barely. But somehow I managed to play it as my main
guitar for six years. Then I got other guitars that were much easier to play
and it gathered dust for a while. Finally after two other trips to the repair
shop and more money than I care to recall, the neck is straight and it is
playable although still requires TLC and a knowledge of it's tuning problems.
The tuning is what I call a dropped double D. I don't know if it has a more
official name or not but all you do is tune the high and low E strings down to
D. Makes it easy to keep that steady bass going but also room to improvise.
