Description:
another fruit-flavored song...

Lyrics:

leave him-he's just a shadow now...
he'll follow where you run

fading/soon as you find
your place in the sun...

burning/in her jealous glare,
she beats him 'til he falls...

-now leave him/as he curls
into something soft and small...

-you start so pure,
but you'll fade in time...
-soon your heart is filled
with cheap, red wine...

Great song, man! &mdash 09/06/05 - 05:10:05 AM
Sadly it`s much too short. Looking forward to hear a longer one next time! You have to promise!!!

Leaving spaces, perfectly aged &mdash 09/06/05 - 09:01:44 AM
This is one of your short poem songs that works as a
short, underdeveloped idea due to the subject. This is
almost a prelude type song, would work perfectly as an
opening track or an inter-track transitional ditty that goes
into a fuller piece, or you could develop it further too. (At
the very end you can hear a "ch" sound, like someone
moving to turn off the recording device, which might be
muted out for better effect.) I am a wine lover, and you
use this metaphor well, for both the preciousness of
things and how beauty is so easily crushed; for the fine
line between good and cheap, and the process that makes
the difference; and the way we can drown our problems in
it, filling us up and making matters worse. Again, you
keep the space between your lyrics free for the listener to
fill in, enabling us to engage creatively with your poetic
observations and delicate expressions. I love your stuff.

No one &mdash 09/06/05 - 04:55:30 PM
can claim they don't have time to listen to your song! :-)

I know you never get tired of hearing that... you'll need to
bring us some new three minute epics soon.

I really like the mellow, contemplative style of this- guitar
sound is terrific and the soft yet husky vocal makes this song
complete. Nice work, as always!

Ths is fine, fine song &mdash 09/07/05 - 05:52:51 AM
I don't mind its length at all. Well written and performed. I
enjoy your singing very much.

I am with Mungo. I think your songs at their current length represent a kind
of genius of sorts. O at least a refusal to make your songs fit a certain
criteria.

Is that genius? Or stubborness?

Regardless, another fine piece. And I am wondering if your home studio setup
has changed? Your recent fruit-flavored songs sound so much better in terms
of audio quality.

thanks atwood-nice to know you and others are listening-i've been very
remiss about posting comments for other peoples' songs, but this weekend i
shall dispense those comments posthaste-thanks!

p.s.- FYI: i DO think it is a genius (of sorts...)

Great diddy! &mdash 09/07/05 - 11:48:42 AM
I could see a key change right where the song ends! It might add some more grape flavor?

I've been waiting... &mdash 09/07/05 - 03:40:24 PM
for another Jonx tune! I knew this was one of yours by the
title- one word lowercase. Another good one, as usual.
You should publish a book of poems with a CD that goes
with it. I t would be like a book-on-tape for poetry lovers!!

2 buck chuck &mdash 09/07/05 - 10:31:12 PM
Like it alot.

The little cymbal touches at the end of your songs are nice signatures.

Love the fact that it's part of a bigger concept.

I also would like to hear more.
Perhaps an instrumental followed by a second part.
Seems like it could bust out a bit more, get a bit heavier.

kinda guided by voices-ish, as far as producing something
that sounds great and ends quick. like the lyrics, theyre
intriguing, especially in the context of the song title.

gonna run and listen to your other stuff.

Great! &mdash 09/08/05 - 10:17:40 AM
This song IS really short...but it truly does work well here. Perhaps I just have A.D.D.

I like your voice and the tone you captured of the acoustic guitar is impressive.
But best of all is your lyrics...a beautiful song.
thanks,

I can really taste the berry &mdash 09/09/05 - 01:53:51 AM
Very juicy. Love the lyrics and your voice, although I wish
you would sing out just a tad more. That's 'cause I'd like
to hear more! That's all. Double Yum.

What?! It's over? NO FAIR &mdash 09/09/05 - 09:12:26 PM
It ends where the rave up should start. It's beautiful and
deserves the full song treatment (whatever that is).

Brevity... &mdash 09/11/05 - 11:26:36 PM
... The long and short of it:

Long on pleasant melody, vocals, performance and
production. Short on development.

Good? Bad? Who knows? Who cares? Genius, as
atwood1956 speculates?

Well, when I consider the amount of time I spend coming
up with choruses and bridges and instrumental breaks to
my tunes... then, yes... pure genius! :D

Your vocal style is somewhat reminiscent of Cat Stevens,
with mild overtones of the 60s pop troubador, Donovan.
Very nice, indeed.

But if you continue to insist on exposing your talents in
"briefs," I'm afraid I'm going to have to call the authorities.
:D
