Description:
a song about meeting big J.
slide guitar courtesy of mandolinquent.

Lyrics:
i . . .
saw a little bluebird,
flying in the sky.
as he passed by . . .
he shouted "hi"

i . . .
said "i'd come and join you" . . .
"if only i could fly !"
he said "it's easy !" . . .
"why don't you try ?"

so i . . .
flapped my arms and ran and jumped
into the sky.
and joined that bluebird . . .
up there so high.

well that bluebird's name was pete,
he said "there's someone i'd like you to meet"
"he lives upstairs on the golden seat" . . .
"with a lion and a lamb sitting at his feet" . . .
"would you like to come and meet this friend of mine ?"

i said "i'd love to come along !" . . .
"just lead the way and i'll follow on" . . .
then he smiled and flew away . . .
i followed him for half a day . . .
up and up into that blue old sky we flew.

then at last we came to rest,
pete said "hey J, i've brought me a guest !" . .
then this man was standing there . . .
with a great big smile and wavy hair,
he said "any friend of pete's is a friend of mine !"

then he took me by the hand . . .
he lead me 'round the perfect land,
from the river deep to the mountain high,
he showed me the never-ending sky . . .
and all the folks i saw would smile as they passed by.

then he asked me 'bout the place i'm from,
said "don't worry if it seems like it's all gone wrong" . . .
"'cos it's always been that way" . . .
"since the sun came up on the very first day"
"seems like the soul don't like to be too far from home".

"now fly back down with pete" . . .
"sing a song 'bout the man with the golden seat" . . .
"tell the good folks that they're not alone" . .
"let them know that they're all gonna make it home" . . .
"and that while they're there . . . lay back and enjoy the ride !"

now THIS is religion!!! &mdash 09/07/05 - 10:05:34 AM
excellent lyrics and performances. I get so fed up of all
these "bowing down" songs. Could use clearer production
but that's it.

That hash is obviously good stuff ... &mdash 09/07/05 - 12:08:38 PM
... because this must be the most accomplished thing I've
heard from you. It's fantastic. Delightful. I wish all
religious songs were like this. Your guitar playing is
lovely, no matter how many layers it took. The slide guitar
is a gorgeous touch too.

I said last time that your singing has got really good but
this time it's exceptional. I'm really, really amazed. It's
wonderful.

I saw &mdash 09/07/05 - 12:31:22 PM
that little bluebird too, right after I followed
the instructions on the photo.
Put that new guitar down already
or we will have a flood of religious tunes
coming at high speed.
My friend was from Nepal.
Lyrics and vox are cool here John.

Cheers

Quite an interesting song. Very dense texture of guitar.
Maybe should mix it down some when the vocal comes in.
Same for the drum which is fine just mixed a little strong.
Not sure what to make of the lyrics. Religion through the
eye of a child? Ten year old on psychedelics? A dream just
awakened? The burning bush as pete the bluebird?
" I heard Allah and Buddah were singing at a Savior's feast
and up in the sky an Arabian Rabi fed Quaker's Oats to a
priest." John Prine

There's lots of good thing going on in music today, I am glad
to say... This is a very good song with a real message - wow,
this makes me so happy listening to! Reminds me in attitude
about BRMC's new album... The lyrics are excellent as is the
performance and the voices. Thank you very much for
making this morning a very good one!

I never know what to say in these things.

I do like this song. I like the way it is layered. I like the
way it flows (a bit like a wave) going from low to high &
back to low again.

Sorry I'm a bit late… &mdash 09/20/05 - 03:05:08 PM
… meant to listen/comment/vote ages ago but just
never got around to it. CJ, you're really going
somewhere musically these days. It's like you've
made such a huge progression in the last few months
and the quality of your sound and your songwriting is
improving with every post. I still think 'Born Free' has
the edge as the best of this recent trilogy but this has
got to be a very close second. Lovely lyrics, a nice
melody and it sounds both nostalgic and timeless at
the same time. Nice one, CJ. I'm really glad I made it
at last. Sorted!

What a perfect uplifting tune, CJ.

If they had this sort of thing on Songs Of Praise, I'd watch it.

Love the way it builds and builds.
